The control unit is on a movable stand — and on a truck tyre, that is a safety feature

A heavy commercial tyre and rim is a stored-energy assembly. The thing that most distinguishes the Tuxedo TC-770-T from a car changer is not its size, it is that the controls live on a movable stand rather than on the machine body. The operator drives the chuck, the bead breaker and the mount/demount arm while standing where they choose to stand — off to the side, out of the plane of the rim, at a distance they judge for the wheel in front of them. On earth-mover and tractor rubber, that is worth more than any convenience feature on the spec sheet.

Behind it sits a four-jaw rotating chuck with two speeds and a pressure-regulated hydraulic pump. The four jaws grip the rim from the centre and turn it; the two speeds let you creep the wheel through the difficult part of a bead and then wind it round quickly when nothing is fighting you. Regulated hydraulic pressure is what keeps a tool that can generate enormous force from simply crushing an alloy or agricultural rim when the operator asks for more than the rim can take.

Will it work in your bay?

Three practical checks before you order, all of them yours to make.

  • Power. The machine runs on 220V, single phase, on a 20 Amp supply. Confirm the circuit with an electrician before delivery rather than after — this is not a machine to run from a temporary connection.
  • Floor space and approach. You need room for the machine, room for the control stand to be positioned away from it, and — the part that catches people out — room to roll a commercial wheel to the chuck and lay it down. Plan the path, not just the footprint.
  • Weight and floor. The machine has real mass; it ships at 1,690 lbs. Check that the floor and the route to its final position will take it, and that a pallet truck can actually get there.

Two speeds, and why the slow one is the one that matters

Speed on a tyre changer is not about doing the job faster. The fast speed is for spinning a free wheel round to the next working position; the slow speed is for the moment when the bead is under the tool and the tyre is trying to move somewhere you have not asked it to go. Having a genuinely slow rotation available means the operator can watch the bead and stop, rather than committing to a fast rotation and hoping. On stiff commercial sidewalls, that control is the difference between a clean demount and a damaged bead seat.

The mount/demount arm is a quick-change design, so swapping the tool for a different wheel type is a short job rather than a reason to avoid taking on unusual work. The hydraulic pump doing the pushing is pressure-regulated, which is what allows the same machine to handle a light truck rim and something far heavier without the operator having to modulate force by feel alone.

What it is built to handle

This is a changer for wheels from most trucks, tractors and earth movers, with an inside rim clamp range of 14″ to 26″. That clamp range is the specification to check first against the wheels you actually service, because it is the one that decides whether a given rim can be held at all — diameter and width limits only matter once the chuck can grip it.

Perfect for

  • Commercial truck and trailer service — the daily bread of a machine like this.
  • Agricultural dealers and repair shops handling tractor and implement rubber that a car changer will not touch.
  • Plant, quarry and construction fleets where earth-mover wheels are otherwise a subcontracted job with a call-out charge attached.
  • Mixed fleet workshops that want one machine covering the heavy end of the range in house.
  • Tyre specialists expanding out of car work and needing the chuck-style machine that commercial rims require.

What is included

The changer with its four-jaw rotating chuck, the pressure-regulated hydraulic pump, the quick-change mount/demount arm and the control unit on its movable stand. Tuxedo lists one compatible accessory for this machine and it is a separate purchase; if you want it in the same shipment, ask us before you order so it goes on the same freight booking rather than arriving on its own later.

Check the maximum wheel size before you order

Published figures for the maximum wheel size differ. Tuxedo publishes a maximum wheel diameter of 64.5″ and a maximum wheel width of 31.5″; the specification fields on this page read 65″ and 32″. The gaps are small, and for most work they are irrelevant — but they are not irrelevant if you are buying this machine specifically because a particular wheel in your fleet sits right at the top of its range.

If the largest wheel you service is close to either limit, ask us to confirm the true maximum in writing before you order. We will take the question back to Tuxedo and answer it with the manufacturer's own figure.

About certification

No independent third-party listing is claimed for this machine in the data Tuxedo supplies to us, and we will not imply one. The distinction is worth being clear about: a manufacturer stating that a machine is built to a standard is not the same document as an outside body having examined and listed it, and insurers, corporate safety policies and some local jurisdictions ask specifically for the second. If any of those govern your workshop, get the requirement in writing from whoever imposes it and send it to us before you order — we would much rather answer that in advance than have equipment arrive that your inspection will not accept.

Shipping and delivery

Shipped by freight within the lower 48, with the cost quoted live at checkout for your address rather than from a stale figure in a description. You will need to unload it — a forklift with the capacity for it, or a dock — or you can choose to collect from the carrier's local terminal instead. A residential address carries a residential fee, disclosed before you pay.

Inspect the machine on the tailgate before you sign for it. Look for shifted or cut banding, crushed packaging, bent guarding and hydraulic weeping, write anything you find on the delivery receipt, photograph it, and contact us the same day. Freight damage is handled with the carrier and not under warranty, and once a receipt has been signed clean that route is largely closed.

Warranty

The changer carries the manufacturer's limited warranty. We keep the current terms, the exclusions and the claim procedure on our warranty claims page instead of paraphrasing them here — the terms are Tuxedo's to set, and a summary sitting on a product page is the kind of thing that quietly drifts out of date. If a warranty term is material to your decision, ask us to confirm it in writing before you order. If a fault does appear, photograph it as found and speak to us before dismantling anything: a component already taken apart is usually outside the claim, and that is an avoidable way to lose one.
