Description
-Ranger Cool Charge AC-134A: a charge you can prove, and a limit stated plainly
Two things separate this A/C station from a generic recovery machine, and both are unusually honest for a product page. The first is that Ranger states the AC-134A meets UL 1963 and SAE J2788 — the standards that govern how completely a machine recovers refrigerant and how accurately it charges it back. That matters commercially: a system charged to the wrong quantity does not cool properly, and the customer comes back. The second is that the manufacturer says outright what the machine will not do — it does not service electric and hybrid A/C systems. Knowing that before you buy is worth more than a page of adjectives.
Within those limits it is a fully automatic R-134A station: recovery, recycling, vacuum and recharge run as a programmed sequence while your technician works on something else.
Programmed, not attended
The working pattern is the point of the machine. Connect the couplers, select the programme, and walk away. The station recovers the existing refrigerant, discharges the old oil automatically, pulls vacuum for a programmable period, injects fresh oil by solenoid with a visual check, and charges the system by weight using an electronic scale. Manual and full-automatic modes are both included, so an unusual system can be worked step by step when it needs to be.
The economics of that are simple. An A/C service occupies a bay for a while no matter what machine you use, because vacuum takes the time it takes. The difference is whether it also occupies a technician. On an automatic station it does not, and in the summer months — when A/C work arrives in volume and older vehicles with leaks arrive in more volume still — that is the difference between a bay that runs three services and one that runs six.
Charging by weight, and why an electronic scale is the specification
Refrigerant charge is a mass, not a pressure. Charging by gauge pressure is an approximation that varies with ambient temperature, humidity and the state of the system, and it is why a system can read plausible on the manifold and still cool poorly. The AC-134A charges automatically against an electronic scale, so the quantity delivered is measured rather than inferred, and the operation record function keeps a note of what the machine actually did.
Oil handling follows the same logic. Old oil is discharged automatically as part of the recovery sequence rather than left for someone to remember, and new oil is injected through a solenoid with a visual indication of what went in. A double filter drier cleans the recovered refrigerant so it can be reused rather than discarded, which is the "recycling" in the machine's name and the reason a recovery station pays for itself in refrigerant cost.
Reading the gauges and moving the machine
The manometers are 3.5" (80 mm) pulse-free Class 1 instruments, with 1.5" (38 mm) tank manometers alongside them. Pulse-free matters in practice: a needle that flutters with every compressor stroke is a needle you cannot read at a glance, and a large, steady dial is read correctly from across the bay rather than squinted at. The display is a 4" x 1.5" (102 mm x 38 mm) LCD mounted facing upward on the machine, and an electronic database plus multi-language support (English, French, Spanish and Chinese) sits behind it.
Mobility is designed rather than assumed. The front wheels are 4" (102 mm) casters with locks and the rear wheels are 12" (305 mm) rubber-tread — a genuinely useful combination, because large rear wheels roll over a floor drain, an air hose or a threshold that small casters would stop dead against, and the locks stop the machine drifting while it is connected to a vehicle. The service hoses are 9' (2.75 m) long, which decides how close the machine has to be parked to a bumper.
Will it fit, and what it needs
The unit is 38" high (965 mm), 18" wide (457 mm) and 30" deep (762 mm) and weighs 221 lbs. (100 kg). That is a footprint you can park against a wall between jobs, but it is not a machine one person lifts.
Power is straightforward and it is a real advantage: 110 VAC, 60 Hz. This plugs into an ordinary shop outlet, so unlike most equipment on this scale there is no electrician and no dedicated circuit to arrange before it can be used. Internal tank capacity is 50 lbs. (23 kg) of refrigerant. Confirm your own refrigerant supply, storage arrangements and any local handling requirements before the machine arrives — that part is the buyer's responsibility, and refrigerant rules are set locally rather than nationally.
Perfect for
- General repair shops adding A/C service without adding a dedicated technician to run it.
- Quick-service and tire-and-lube businesses looking for a summer revenue line that does not tie up staff.
- Fleet and municipal workshops servicing cars, trucks, SUVs and buses in-house.
- Independent shops with mixed staff experience, where a programmed sequence produces the same result regardless of who ran it.

Standards, stated as the manufacturer states them
Ranger's own data for this machine says it meets UL 1963 and SAE J2788, and that is repeated here exactly as they put it — no more, and with no additional scheme implied. Beyond those two, the product data we hold claims no further third-party listing and we will not suggest one. If your insurer, your local authority or a fleet contract requires a specific listing or an independent test-house document, read the exact wording of the requirement before you order and ask us if you want help matching it. Refrigerant handling itself is regulated separately from the equipment, and the certification a technician needs is not something a machine can supply.
Shipping and delivery
This machine ships as freight within the lower 48 states. Unloading is arranged at the receiving end: a forklift, a dock with a pallet jack, or a collection you make from the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery is a different service from a commercial dock and carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout when you order. Inspect the crate before you sign and write any damage onto the bill of lading in the driver's presence — a gauge or a coupler damaged in transit is far easier to claim for when it is noted on the paperwork than when it is discovered a week later.
Warranty
Coverage is per the manufacturer's published warranty document for this product, and we will send you the current version before you order if you ask. Do not open the refrigerant circuit, the scale assembly or the vacuum pump to investigate a fault before a claim is raised. Beyond ending the coverage on the part, venting refrigerant to atmosphere while doing so is an offence in its own right — call it in and let it be diagnosed properly.
