Ranger Clip-On Steel Wheel Weight Coated - 2.75 Oz - 25 Pcs

The number printed on the box of a clip-on wheel weight is the one thing that will not stop it fitting. Mass is mass. What decides whether a weight seats properly on a rim is the clip — its profile, the flange thickness it is cut for, and the shape of the lip it has to grip. Ranger states the style for this box in the specification table as Clip-on / Pfe, and that designation is the specification worth checking before you order.

This is a single-value box: twenty-five coated steel clip-on weights, every one of them 2.75 oz. It is stock for a shop that balances wheels often enough to buy by increment rather than out of an assortment tray.

Clip style is the fitment specification

Wheel weight clips are not universal, and they were never meant to be. Different rim families present the clip with a different flange — thicker or thinner, straight or contoured, exposed or partly shrouded — and clip profiles are manufactured to suit. Fit a clip cut for one flange profile onto another and one of two things happens: it will not seat at all, or, worse, it seats loosely and comes off somewhere on a motorway.

So use the style designation on the specification table rather than assuming the ounce value is the whole story. If you are unsure whether this profile suits the rims you work on most, tell us what you are fitting to before you order and we will check it with you. We would rather answer that question up front than have twenty-five weights sitting on your shelf that will not go on anything.

Buying by increment, not by assortment

There are two ways to stock clip-on weights. One is a compartment tray holding a spread of sizes; the other is boxes of a single value, pulled as the balancer calls for them. Shops that do volume wheel work tend to end up at the second, and for a practical reason: an assortment tray always runs out unevenly. You burn through the middle sizes, the extremes sit there for a year, and the tray is perpetually half-useful.

Buying single-value boxes means each size is re-ordered on its own consumption. It also means a technician reaches into one box and gets the right weight without sorting, which sounds trivial and adds up across a day at the balancer. This box covers the 2.75 oz step — a substantial correction, the kind heavier steel wheels and larger-diameter rims tend to call for rather than a light passenger-car alloy.

Coated steel, and what the coating is doing

These are coated rather than bare steel. The coating is doing two jobs. The first is corrosion: a weight lives on the inside of a wheel, which is the wettest, saltiest, most brake-dust-laden part of a car, and bare steel there will rust and then stain the rim around it. The second is contact: a coated clip bears against the rim flange through a finished surface rather than raw metal, which matters on a painted or clear-coated wheel where the clip has to be pushed on and, eventually, pulled off.

Steel also holds its shape in a way lead never did. A steel clip can be pressed on, removed and re-seated without deforming the way a soft weight would, so a weight taken off during a re-balance is generally still a weight.

Fitting one properly

Seat the clip squarely on the flange rather than at an angle, then set it with a proper wheel-weight hammer or clip tool — not with whatever is nearest on the bench. The aim is a clip that is fully home along its length, with no gap between the clip and the flange at either end. A weight that is only half seated is the one that leaves.

Once the correction is on, spin the wheel again and confirm the machine agrees with you. That final check is what catches a weight that has shifted during fitting, and it takes a few seconds. When you remove old weights, take the opportunity to clean the flange: built-up brake dust and old adhesive under a clip stops it bearing properly.

Perfect For

  • Tyre and wheel shops stocking clip-on weights by value rather than out of an assortment tray.
  • General service bays that balance wheels alongside everything else and want a box of a known size on the shelf.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops running steel wheels, where clip-ons are the standard format and heavier corrections are routine.
  • Mobile tyre fitters topping up a specific size that keeps running out in the van.

What you receive

One box holding twenty-five coated steel clip-on wheel weights, each of 2.75 oz, with a total package weight of 4.3 lbs. No fitting tool, no clip hammer and no assortment of other sizes are included — this is a single-value consumable box on its own.

Certification, stated plainly

The manufacturer data we hold for this box contains no independent laboratory listing and no third-party approval mark, and we are not going to imply one. That is ordinary for a balancing consumable. It becomes relevant only where a purchasing policy, a fleet contract or a municipal specification requires documented approval for the parts you fit. If that applies to you, raise it before you order and we will ask the manufacturer for the documentation that exists rather than guess at its contents.

Shipping and delivery

We ship within the contiguous United States, with the delivery cost calculated at checkout from live carrier rates rather than written into this description, because those rates move. Collection is available as well — the pickup locations for this brand are named in the Pick Up and Delivery section on this page.

If an order travels as freight rather than parcel, someone has to be available to receive it and you need a way to get it off the truck, or you can collect from the carrier’s terminal instead. Residential delivery carries its own fee, shown at checkout. Check the package before you sign for it and record any damage on the delivery receipt at the time — a clean signature makes a later claim very hard to pursue.

Warranty

Ranger covers this under a single product-line warranty document rather than a term specific to the box, and we hold the current copy. No duration appears in this description because the fact sheet does not state one, and a warranty period invented to fill a gap is exactly the sort of claim that becomes a dispute. Ask us and we will send you the document that applies.

If a box is short, damaged or wrong on arrival, keep it and the packaging and contact us first. Do not bend, re-form or otherwise modify a clip to make it fit a rim it was not cut for — an altered weight cannot be assessed for a claim, and it is not a weight you want on a wheel at speed.
