Product Description

BendPak BB-2 Blue-Bullet Pipe Bender with Deluxe 302 Die Package

Calling this a pipe bender undersells half of it. The BB-2 carries a clampless swager that develops more than 30,000 lbs. of end-forming force, and that is the number that turns the machine from a bender into a one-station exhaust shop: I.D. and O.D. expansions, slip-fits, flares, ball-joints, reductions and manifold flanges are all formed here rather than farmed out or fudged with a hammer and a torch. Buy it for the bends and you will end up using it more for the ends.

This listing is the manual Blue-Bullet supplied with the deluxe 302 die package. It is built for shops that fabricate exhaust as a service — muffler bays, custom and race fabrication, fleet garages, restoration work where nobody sells the pipe you need any more.

Will It Fit?

Bench space first: the machine is 42 in. (1,067 mm) wide and 62 in. (1,575 mm) deep, with a third listed dimension of 31 in. (787 mm). BendPak's specification block labels both 62 in. and 31 in. as Depth, whereas our own product record stores 31 in. (787 mm) as the overall height. If a doorway, a bench run or a mezzanine is tight, ask us to confirm the figure against the current factory drawing rather than planning around the table below.

Supply is 208-230 VAC, 60 Hz, single phase — a hard-wired circuit, sorted before the machine arrives — driving a 5 HP motor through a direct-drive 4 gpm pump. Allow clear floor at the rear for the end-finishing units and clear run to the side for lengths of tube. Casters make the bender movable once it is inside, but it lands crated at 1,364 lbs.; see shipping below.

The long-stroke cylinder, and why 14 in. matters

The top cylinder on this machine is an extended type with 14 in. of retraction. That has two practical consequences a spec sheet does not spell out. First, you no longer need pusher block extensions when bending with small-radius dies — fewer loose parts to hunt for, and one fewer variable in the setup. Second, the extra retraction opens up real clearance for changing a die or pulling a finished piece out, which is where a lot of quiet minutes disappear on a busy bench.

Behind it is the frame the machine depends on: rigid 6 in. x 6 in. x 3/8 in. welded steel tube, a one-piece barrel keeping the bending gates aligned with the ram, and 60,000 lbs. (27,216 kg) of top-cylinder force. A single enclosed bottom cylinder loads the back gates evenly from where it cannot interfere with the tubing.

Bends: radius, depth and the step-cut die rails

Maximum tube capacity is 3 in. (76 mm) at .095 wall, on a maximum radius of 5 in. (127 mm) and a minimum of 3.3 in. (89 mm). Bends run past 170°; if you need a true U-turn, 180° dies are available and are worth specifying at the time of order.

BendPak uses a step-cut process on the die rails and a relief-cut profile in the die itself. Both exist to keep the tube supported through the cycle so the bend comes out uniform, rather than crimping or flattening on the inside of the radius. That is a flow problem before it is a cosmetic one — a crimped bend is a restriction in a system whose whole job is to move gas. Bending heads are precision-ground to within .002 in. and the tooling is heat-treated, which is what keeps the profile honest after thousands of cycles. Quick-release, twist-lock dies make the change fast enough that nobody is tempted to bodge a bend on the wrong die.

End forming: swager, expander and the clamp that grips harder

Two separate end-finishing units sit at the rear of the machine. The clampless swager is the headline: instead of a heavy conventional vise, narrow hinged collars drop into position, and the harder the clamp is loaded the tighter it grips — so slippage mid-form, the thing that ruins a part and a tube in one go, is designed out. Because the collars are compact, you can flare a tube end as close as 3 in. from an existing bend, which is frequently the difference between a part that fits and one that nearly does.

The internal segment expander handles the same family of operations from the inside. Its buttress canister has a single position setting for all I.D. expansions and can be adjusted for special sizes, and one arbor covers the full range of tubing from 1.5 in. to 3 in. Between the two units you can reduce, internally swage, form flat flares, ball-joints, male ball-joints, female sockets and double-donut flares. On the manual Blue-Bullet both are driven by a double-ended cylinder with a single control handle placed toward the middle, so one operator works both sides without walking around the machine. The swager box is open-sided, which sounds minor until you have crashed a tool into a cylinder on a machine that is not.

Hydraulics are specified for repetition: 2.5 in. oversized barrel shafts, a large reservoir, a canister filter, sight-gauges, an over-sized 1/2 in. high-pressure hose and standard grease fittings, with pressure gauges in the operator's view.

Perfect For

  • Muffler and exhaust shops building systems to order, where end forming is as much of the job as bending.
  • Custom, race and restoration fabrication needing OE-quality expansions and flares from tube stock.
  • Fleet and agricultural garages making their own pipework instead of waiting on a part number.
  • Shops replacing a bender and a separate end former with one machine and one footprint.

Standards, stated plainly

One standard is claimed in BendPak's data for this machine, and it is a component standard: the cylinders use chrome-molly shafts conforming to ANSI 92.2. That describes shaft material, not a machine-level third-party safety listing, and we will not present it as though it were. The NEMA-rated switch box with overload relays is real electrical protection and, again, not a listing. If your insurer, landlord or local authority requires a particular approval for powered shop equipment, send us the wording and we will check it before you order.

Shipping and delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states, crated at 1,364 lbs., costed live at checkout for your address. Unloading is on you: forklift, dock or a booked rigger — or take terminal pickup, usually the easiest route for one crated machine. Residential delivery is available and carries a fee. Warehouse pickup is offered, and the BendPak locations are listed further down this page.

Look the crate over before signing anything. Damage has to be written on the bill of lading while the driver is still with you; after a clean signature a freight claim is very hard to make stick. Photograph anything suspicious at the truck.

Warranty

BendPak covers its full product line with a single warranty document rather than a per-model term; we will send the current copy when you ask instead of printing a figure this page cannot verify. Whatever it contains, do not take a component apart if you intend to claim on it — a stripped cylinder or pump is the usual reason a sound claim is turned down.
