BendPak BB-2 Blue-Bullet: the manual one, and why some shops want that

Every other pipe bender in this range puts a controller between the operator and the bend. The BB-2 does not. Its bending controls are manual, and that is the reason it exists alongside the digital and semi-automatic machines rather than beneath them.

What you gain is directness. The operator brings the bend on, watches the tube, and stops where the tube says to stop — not where a stored value says to. On short runs, unfamiliar material, and repair work where the reference is a bent original rather than a drawing, that is faster and better than programming. What you give up is equally clear: repeatability across a long run depends on the operator, because the machine remembers nothing. If you build the same section fifty times a month, buy a machine that stores it. If you build fifty different things, this is the one.

Fewer electronics is a durability argument too

A control board, a keypad and a display are three things that live in a shop full of swarf, oil mist and vibration. They are protected on the machines that have them, but they are still there. A manual machine has fewer of them, and in an environment where equipment gets used hard by people in a hurry, that is worth something on a ten-year view. It also means a shop with no appetite for training on a controller can put a competent operator on the machine and get work out of it the same day.

Same tonnage, different chassis

Manual control does not mean a lighter machine. The top cylinder develops the same 60,000 lbs. (27,216 kg), through the same welded steel tube frame in 6" x 6" section with 3/8" wall, with a pass-through cylinder stem, a one-piece barrel keeping the gates aligned, bending heads ground to within .002" and 2.5" oversized barrel shafts. The cylinder shafts are chrome-moly conforming to ANSI 92.2, which is a materials standard for the shafts rather than a safety listing for the machine.

The footprint is genuinely different from the digital machines, so do not carry a layout over from one to the other: the BB-2 measures 42" (1,067 mm) by 62" (1,575 mm), with a third principal dimension of 31" (787 mm) — see the note below about how the source table labels that row.

What it will bend, and how it finishes

Maximum tube capacity is 3" (76 mm), with the bending radius running from 3.3" (89 mm) at the tightest to 5" (127 mm) at the widest. The standard die pack covers 1.5", 1.625", 1.75", 2", 2.25" and 2.5" in the 302 pattern, with a 180° die offered separately. At the rear, two end-finishing units handle flaring and expanding, joined by a high-speed clampless swager, an internal expander and a drop-in collar, and the swager box is open-sided so tools clear it without being crashed into the cylinder.

Perfect for

  • Repair-led exhaust shops working from the old part rather than a drawing.
  • General fabrication where every job is different.
  • Shops that want capability without training anyone on a controller.
  • Agricultural, marine and plant repair operations bending pipe as it comes.
  • Buyers who would rather spend the difference on tooling than on automation.

In the package

  • The BB-2 bender with manual bending and expander controls.
  • The BB-1 tooling package, with quick-release bending and finishing dies and twist-lock mounting.
  • Two rear end-finishing units, high-speed clampless swager, internal expander and drop-in collar.
  • Integrated power-relief control valve, pressure gauges, NEMA-rated switch box with overload relays, industrial casters and tool trays.

The 180° die is a separate purchase. Ask for it on the same quote if you need full U-bends.

Three things to confirm in writing before you order

The electrical supply. This listing's specification table gives the motor supply as 208-460 VAC, 50 Hz, 3 PH. A separate field in the same product record describes a single-phase machine at the other mains frequency. Those are different installations and we will not choose between them for you. Tell us what your shop has and ask us to write the configuration onto the order.

The motor rating. Related but separate: the motor row of the specification table gives the supply without a horsepower figure, while the feature list for the same machine states a 5 HP motor. We have quoted each to its own source rather than merging them.

The third dimension. The dimensions table prints the heading "Depth" on two different rows — 62" (1,575 mm) and 31" (787 mm). The 31" figure is real; the label on it is not reliable, so we have not told you which axis it describes.

Delivery and siting

Freight to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout against the delivery address rather than estimated. The machine weighs 1,364 lbs. and ships crated at 70" x 32" x 47" (1,778 mm x 812 mm x 1,206 mm). Unloading is the receiver's responsibility: a forklift rated for that crate, or terminal collection from the carrier, which many buyers find easier because the terminal is set up for it. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when selected. Industrial casters let the machine be positioned once it is on the floor, but plan for clear working space behind it, where the end-finishing units are used.

Check it over before signing. Crate impact, bent tooling, cracked gauges, marked enclosures, oil traces. Write anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is there, and photograph it — a clean signature is the carrier's proof that nothing was wrong on arrival.

Warranty

BendPak publishes a written warranty document for its equipment and we keep the current copy; ask for it before ordering if the terms are part of your decision. The rule for any hydraulic machine: raise the claim before anything is dismantled. A cylinder, pump or enclosure opened first is normally treated as modified and cover rarely survives it. Photograph the fault, record the serial number, and speak to us before you start.
