Atlas TC289DAA + WB11: the combo where both assist arms come in the box

The letters that matter in this package are the ones at the end of the tire changer’s name. DAA is Dual Assist Arms, and it means a left-hand arm and a right-hand arm are both supplied with the machine rather than sold as the usual single-side option. On a modern low-profile or run-flat sidewall that is the difference between a one-person job and a two-person wrestling match, and it is the reason to choose this pairing over a bare rim-clamp changer and a balancer bought separately.

Alongside it sits the WB11 computerised spin balancer, which needs no anchoring to the floor at all — it is set down where you want it and used. Together they cover the whole tire job: break the bead, clamp, demount, mount, inflate, then spin and balance. Both machines run on ordinary 110V power.

What your bay needs before it arrives

Neither machine is complicated to install, but two of these are worth checking now rather than on delivery day. Confirming your own power and air supply is the buyer’s responsibility.

  • Power. Both machines are 110V. That is deliberately undemanding — most garages, farm shops and single-bay operations already have what is needed.
  • Air. The tire changer needs an external air supply, which is not included. Working pressure is 90-110 PSI and it must not exceed 140 PSI. An oiler, filter and regulator are supplied with the changer, so the conditioning end is handled; the compressor is not.
  • Floor. The WB11 requires no anchor-down installation. The changer wants a level, solid floor and clear swing room around the arm.
  • Getting it off the truck. The pair weighs 1,275 lbs combined — 920 lbs for the changer, 355 lbs for the balancer. Plan for a forklift, a dock, or warehouse pickup.

Why two assist arms, and not one

A stiff sidewall does not want to sit in the rim’s drop centre, and if it will not sit there the bead cannot come over the flange. An assist arm presses the bead down and holds it while the mount/demount head travels round. With one arm you set the wheel up to suit the arm’s side. With two you work whichever side the tire is fighting you on, without unclamping and repositioning a wheel that may weigh as much as the operator wants to lift.

The rest of the changer is built to the same idea of removing hands from the job. The bead breaker plate is adjustable so the blade meets the sidewall square rather than at the angle the machine happens to offer, which is what protects alloy flanges. A built-in beadblaster delivers a burst of air to seat a stubborn bead. Plastic protectors are supplied for the head and the jaws.

Three clamping positions instead of one compromise

Rim diameter varies far more than it used to, and a changer with a single jaw range ends up gripping a big alloy at the very end of its travel. The TC289DAA’s jaws adjust across three mounting positions. Clamping externally, the ranges are 11 7/8″ - 26″, 12 7/8″ - 27″ and 13 3/4″ - 28″. Clamping internally, they are 13 7/8″ - 27 7/8″, 14 5/8″ - 28 7/8″ and 15 5/8″ - 29 7/8″. Maximum tire diameter is 47″ and the bead breaker takes wheels up to 18″ wide.

Behind that sits an extra-large turntable driven by a 1 HP motor producing 885 ft/lbs of rotating torque, with a bead breaker rated at 5,500 lb of force. The clearance around the larger table is the practical benefit — big wheels stop colliding with the column on the way round.

What the WB11 does, and what it asks of you

The WB11 is a motorised spin balancer with static and dynamic modes, rapid optimisation, and self-diagnosis and self-calibration built in, so it can tell you what is wrong with it rather than requiring a service visit to find out. It reads to 1 gram and places weights to a resolution of 1.4 degrees, spinning at 150 RPM. The hood does the safety work: lower it and the cycle starts, raise it and it stops. There is an automatic brake plus a pedal one for positioning the wheel by hand.

One honest limitation. All wheel dimensions are entered manually on the WB11 — you measure the rim width with the supplied calipers and key the numbers in. That is the standard trade at this level and it is perfectly accurate when done properly, but it is also where balancing errors come from, because a mis-keyed rim width produces a confidently wrong weight. If your volume is high enough that hand entry becomes the bottleneck, an automatic-data-entry balancer is the upgrade to look at. It takes rims from 10″ to 32″, rim widths from 1 1/2″ to 20″, and wheels up to 150 lbs on a 40mm shaft.

Perfect For

  • Single and two-bay repair shops adding tire service without committing to a full tire-shop floor plan.
  • Farms and ranches running their own implement and light-truck tires — the no-anchor balancer and 110V supply suit a shed as well as a shop.
  • Serious home and collector garages where seasonal changeovers on multiple vehicles justify owning rather than paying per corner.
  • Fleet and municipal shops keeping light-truck tires in-house.

Certification, stated plainly

Both machines carry the CE marking, and it is worth knowing exactly what that is. CE is a manufacturer’s declaration of conformity against European directives. It is a real, meaningful statement, but it is a self-declaration rather than an independent North American third-party listing, and the two are not interchangeable documents. For the overwhelming majority of shops that distinction never comes up. It comes up when an insurer, a franchise agreement or a local inspection regime specifically names a listing body. If yours does, get the requirement in writing and check it with us before you order rather than after the freight has moved.

Shipping and Delivery

Both machines ship as freight within the lower 48 states. At 1,275 lbs for the pair, this is a forklift or loading-dock delivery — the driver is not going to walk it into your shop. Warehouse pickup is available and the locations are listed further down this page. Residential delivery can be arranged and carries a fee, which is quoted live at checkout because carrier rates move week to week.

Inspect the crates before you sign. Count what came off the truck against the paperwork, look for punctures, crushed corners and shifted banding, and write any damage or shortage on the bill of lading in front of the driver. A clean signature is the carrier’s proof that everything arrived in good order and it will be used against a later claim.

Warranty

Both the changer and the balancer carry the Atlas 1 year parts-only warranty. Parts only means a covered component is supplied; the labour to fit it is not included.

If something fails, contact us before you take it apart. A partly disassembled machine is very hard to assess, and stripping a component is one of the quickest ways to lose a claim you would otherwise have won. Leave it as it is, photograph it, and get in touch.
