Atlas TTC306: check your service panel before you check anything else

The TTC306 is the large end of the Atlas truck tire changer line — a deluxe, automated machine intended for agricultural, earthmover and off-road wheel assemblies as well as ordinary over-the-road truck work. Before any of that matters, one specification decides whether you can own it at all: the TTC306 runs on 220 volt three phase power. Its hydraulic motor is 3 HP and its chuck motor is rated 3.5-4 HP, both on 220v at plus or minus 5% (209-231 volts), three phase, with a 30 amp breaker required.

Three phase is common in industrial buildings and genuinely rare in leased retail units and small independent shops. If your panel is single phase, the choice is a phase converter, a service upgrade from the utility, or a different machine — and that is a conversation to have before an order, not after a crate arrives. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you a machine you cannot switch on.

Will It Fit?

  • Electrical service. 220v, three phase, 30 amp breaker, tolerance 209-231 volts. This is the gating requirement.
  • Floor. A single-piece frame with a solid floor plate. Atlas publishes no concrete thickness or PSI figure for this machine, so we do not quote one; if your slab is thin or unknown, ask your installer rather than guessing.
  • Noise. Rated under 70dBA, which is quieter than most people expect from a machine this size.
  • Working room. This changer handles tires up to 98" (8' 2") in diameter. A wheel that size needs floor around the machine to roll and stage, not just the machine's own footprint. Plan the swing, not the outline.
  • Unloading. It ships at 2,260 lbs. You need a forklift rated for it, a dock, or a terminal collection.

Confirming the electrical supply, the floor and the unloading plan is the buyer's responsibility, and the electrical one is not a formality on this model.

The remote console, and the case for making it wireless

Everything automatic on the TTC306 is driven from a mobile control console: automatic movement and positioning of the bead tool, the carriage and the chuck arm. As supplied that console is wired, and the operation can optionally be made wireless.

The wireless option is worth thinking about properly rather than treating as a gadget. Two things change. First, there is no control cable lying across a floor that is already carrying wheels weighing hundreds of pounds — a trip hazard removed from exactly the area where a trip is worst. Second, the operator can stand wherever the job is best seen from. On an assembly nearly eight feet across, being able to walk round and watch the bead from the far side while still driving the tool is a real safety and quality difference, not a convenience.

The two-speed chuck, and what the numbers mean in practice

The TTC306 uses an electric/hydraulic self-centering four jaw chuck with two speeds and five rim locking positions. Two speeds matter because the same machine has to creep a heavy alloy rim into position without marking it and then turn an agricultural tire through a full demount without taking all afternoon. One speed always compromises one of those jobs.

The clamping numbers are what let it hold what it holds: 13,173 lbs of clamping power, a bead breaker developing 5,930 lbs of force, and a hydraulic system operating between 0 and 1,885 PSI. The chuck accepts a maximum wheel weight of 3,968 lbs.

The manufacturer's own copy positions the TTC306 against changers costing over $20,000. We reproduce that comparison because it is on this page today and it is the manufacturer's claim, not ours — treat it as marketing, and judge the machine on the specification table instead.

Rim and tire range: one figure to confirm before you order

Published figures for the rim and tire range differ between two sources on this page, and both are set out here so you can check the one your work depends on.

Measurement The feature list on this page says The specification table on this page says
Rim range Handles rims from 14" to 56" Rim clamping range 14" - 46", maximum 56" with the included clamping extensions
Maximum tire diameter In excess of 97" 98" (8' 2")
Maximum tire width Up to 53" 42" (3' 6")

The rim range reconciles easily enough — 46" on the jaws, 56" once the extensions are fitted — and the diameter figures are within a rounding of each other. The tire width figures are the ones to settle, and 53" versus 42" is an eleven-inch difference that decides whether a particular super single or flotation tire goes on this machine at all. If maximum tire width is the specification your purchase turns on, call, text or chat with us and we will confirm it against the factory sheet before you order. We would rather answer that question than have the wrong machine on your floor.

Perfect For

  • High-volume truck tire centres working standard over-the-road assemblies all day, where automatic tool positioning is a labour argument.
  • Agricultural dealers and farm service operations handling tractor, implement and flotation tires.
  • Mine, quarry and earthmoving fleets servicing their own off-road and skidder tires in house.
  • Industrial and municipal workshops that already have three phase power and want one machine to cover everything.

It is not a passenger-car machine and it is not a single-phase machine. Both of those are deliberate.

What's in the Box

  • Wired mobile control unit (wireless control is optional)

Certification, honestly

The data we hold for the TTC306 claims no third-party safety listing, so this page badges none. On tire equipment that is a less loaded question than it is on a vehicle lift — there is no North American third-party listing programme for truck tire changers equivalent to the one lifts are listed under — but if your insurer, your fleet policy or a local authority asks for specific documentation, ask us first and we will get you whatever the manufacturer can supply. We will not claim paperwork we cannot show you.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, lower 48. At 2,260 lbs crated, you must be able to take it off the truck yourself — forklift, loading dock, or a terminal pickup you collect. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee. Freight is quoted live at checkout rather than stated here, because rates move and a printed figure goes stale.

Inspect it before you sign. Check the crate corners and the wrap with the driver present, and write any damage onto the bill of lading before you put your name on it. A clean signed BOL is a statement that the machine arrived undamaged, and it is very hard to walk back.

Warranty

The TTC306 carries a 1 year parts only warranty. Parts only means the replacement part is covered and the labour to fit it is not.

Do not disassemble the machine before a claim is agreed. Photograph the fault, call us and let the claim run — a stripped machine is very often the end of the conversation.
