Atlas TC755 + WB49-2: a column that tilts back, and a balancer that measures the rim for you

Two design choices separate this pairing from the entry-level tire bay, and both of them remove a step the operator would otherwise perform by hand. The TC755 uses a tilt-back column rather than a swing arm: the whole tower pivots backward, clear of the turntable, instead of swinging sideways into the space you are standing in. And the WB49-2 takes its wheel dimensions automatically instead of asking you to measure the rim and key the numbers in.

Those sound like conveniences. In a high-volume bay they are throughput and they are accuracy, in that order. A tilt-back column means a heavy alloy comes on and off the table without threading it past an arm, and the mount/demount head returns to the same position every time rather than being re-set by feel. Automatic data entry means the balancer works from what the rim actually is, not from what somebody typed at eight in the morning. Both machines run on 110V.

Before it lands: power, air and floor

Neither machine is demanding to install, but the air supply is the item that most often is not ready on delivery day. Confirming your own services is the buyer’s responsibility.

• Power. Both machines are 110V. No three-phase supply, no dedicated service, no electrician on the critical path for most bays.
• Air. The changer’s jaws and bead breaker are air operated and the supply is external and not included. Working pressure is 90-110 PSI, and it must not exceed 140 PSI. A filter, regulator and lubricator come with the machine; the compressor and the plumbing do not.
• Floor. The balancer needs no anchor-down installation. The changer wants a flat, solid floor with room behind the column for it to tilt into — measure that, because it is the one clearance a swing-arm layout does not prepare you for.
• Unloading. 700 lbs for the changer and 400 lbs for the balancer. Neither comes off a truck by hand.

What the tilt-back column actually buys you

On a swing-arm changer, the arm parks to one side of the table. Every wheel that goes on or comes off travels past it, and every operator eventually learns the small sideways lift that avoids clipping it. On a tilt-back machine, the column and head rotate rearward and the table is left completely open. Loading a 47″ tire becomes a straight lift rather than a lift-and-swing, which matters most on exactly the wheels that are heaviest and most expensive to scratch.

The bead breaker is button-controlled and the button is at the blade. That is a small detail with a real consequence: the operator’s eyes are on the sidewall while the blade is moving, rather than on a pedal or a console with the work in peripheral vision. The blade takes wheels up to 18″ wide and delivers 5,500 lb of force. The turntable is oversized for clearance around large wheels, electrically driven by a 1 HP motor producing 885 ft/lbs of rotating torque, and its jaws adjust across three mounting positions so a small steel rim and a large alloy are each clamped in the middle of a range rather than at the end of one.

Clamping externally, the range is 11 7/8″ to 27 7/8″. Clamping internally, 13 7/8″ to 29 7/8″. A built-in beadblaster seats stubborn beads with a burst of air, and the mount/demount head takes either a metal roller or replaceable plastic inserts depending on what you are working on that day.

Why automatic data entry is a quality control feature

Balancing is arithmetic performed on measurements. If the rim width or offset entered into the machine is wrong, the machine will calculate a weight with total confidence and the wheel will still shake at 65. This is the most common cause of a comeback in tire work and it has nothing to do with the balancer’s accuracy specification.

The WB49-2 takes its dimensions with automatic 2D data entry, removing the hand-measurement step from the routine ones. A width measuring gauge for automatic 3D entry is available separately if you want the third dimension automated too. Beyond that it reads to 1 gram, places weights to a resolution of 1.4 degrees, and spins at 150 RPM, with static and dynamic modes, rapid optimisation, and self-diagnosis and self-calibration so a fault reports itself rather than requiring a service call to identify.

Three features exist purely for the operator. A split-weight function divides a correction so the weights can be hidden behind spokes — on an alloy wheel, that is the difference between a clean job and a visible one. Auto-positioning parks the wheel at the exact clock position where the weight goes. And an automatic LED light illuminates the inner rim so you are not fitting adhesive weights by touch. It handles rims 10″ to 32″, rim widths 1 1/2″ to 20″, and wheels up to 150 lbs on a 40mm shaft, with a maximum tire diameter of 39″.

Certification, stated plainly

Both machines carry the CE marking. It is worth being precise about what that is: CE is the manufacturer’s own declaration of conformity against European directives. That is a real statement with real obligations behind it, but it is a self-declaration, not an independent North American third-party listing, and one does not substitute for the other. In practice this rarely surfaces. It surfaces when an insurer, a franchise standard or a local inspection regime names a specific listing body. Shipping and Delivery

Both machines travel as freight inside the lower 48 states. Between them they weigh over half a ton, so a forklift or a loading dock is required at the delivery address, or you can collect from a warehouse instead — locations are listed further down this page. Residential delivery can be arranged and carries a fee; it is quoted live at checkout rather than printed here, because carrier pricing moves.

Check the freight before you sign for it. Count the pieces against the paperwork, look for punctures, crush damage and shifted banding, and write anything you find onto the bill of lading while the driver is present. A clean signature is the carrier’s evidence that the shipment arrived intact, and a claim raised after that is a much harder conversation.

Warranty

Both machines carry the Atlas 1 year parts-only warranty. Parts only means the covered component is supplied; labour to fit it is not included.

If something fails, talk to us before you strip it. A machine that has been partly taken apart is difficult to assess and disassembly ahead of a claim is one of the most common ways a good claim is lost. Photograph the fault, leave it as it is, and get in touch.
