Tuxedo 18G-DRAIN: the 18 gallon drain you empty with a pump, not with your back
Every used-oil drain fills. The difference between models is what happens next, and it is the difference this one is built around. The 18G-DRAIN carries a 4 ft evacuation hose with a nozzle and a manual hand pump, so a full reservoir is emptied by standing next to it and working a pump handle until the hose runs dry into your waste drum. Nothing gets lifted, tipped or carried.
That matters more than it sounds. An 18 gallon reservoir at the end of a busy afternoon is a container nobody should be manhandling across a wet shop floor, and the alternative to a pump is exactly that. The pump is the reason to buy this model, and it is the feature the boilerplate description skips over entirely.
Reach: the 48″ to 71″ range and what it is for
The column adjusts from 48″ to 71″, and those two numbers describe two completely different jobs. At the bottom of its range it slides under a car sitting on axle stands or a low-rise lift. At the top it reaches the sump of a vehicle raised properly on a two-post lift, which is where most shops actually do oil changes and where a fixed-height drain is useless.
Measure once before you order: put a tape from your floor to the drain plug of the vehicle you service most often at the height you normally work at, and check that figure falls inside the range above. That measurement is yours to take, and it is the only fitment question this product really has.
The 17″ funnel and the screen underneath it
The funnel is 17″ across. A wide mouth is not about catching a tidy vertical stream - that part is easy. It is about the first two seconds after the plug lets go, when hot oil comes out at an angle and does not travel straight down, and about the sump of a vehicle whose drain plug is nowhere near where you positioned the trolley. Seventeen inches of catchment is the difference between a clean job and a floor you spend ten minutes on afterwards.
Underneath the funnel there is a contamination screen, and it is quietly one of the most useful parts of the machine. It stops a dropped drain plug, a crush washer or a lump of sludge from disappearing into the reservoir and then into your pump. Anyone who has fished a plug out of a full drain tank understands why that screen is there.
Seeing the level before it becomes a problem
The reservoir is translucent polyethylene, which means the fluid level is visible from across the bay - no float, no gauge, nothing to stick or read wrong. Poly also takes what oil drains do to steel: it will not rust from the inside out after years of hot, wet, acidic used oil sitting in it.
Worth being precise here, because the description we are replacing was not: the level is read directly through the translucent wall of the tank. Our data does not describe a separate fluid level indicator, so we do not claim one. For pouring off small quantities the reservoir also has a pour spout and cap, and there are hand grips moulded into the body for the times you do want to move it by hand.
Moving it, and the 3.5″ casters
It rolls on four 3.5″ swivel casters. All four swivelling rather than two fixed is the right choice for a drain: you are constantly making small sideways corrections to line the funnel up under a plug, and a trolley with fixed rear wheels has to be steered in an arc to do that. Keep the caster path clear of the debris that collects around a service bay and it will track properly for years.
Perfect For
- Busy service bays doing several oil changes a day, where the pump saves a trip to the waste tank every time the reservoir fills.
- Fleet and municipal shops servicing light trucks and vans, where sump heights vary and the adjustable column earns its place.
- Two-bay independents that need one drain to work under a car on stands in the morning and a truck on the lift in the afternoon.
- Serious home and club garages with a lift installed and a proper waste-oil arrangement.
If your work is occasional and your waste drum is right next to the bay, the simpler 8 gallon pour-out model that shares this drain's specification sheet may be the better buy. This one is for the shop where the tank fills faster than you would like.
What is in the box
Per the manufacturer's feature list, the unit comes with the funnel and its built-in contamination screen, the translucent reservoir with its pour spout and cap, the integrated hand grips, the four swivel casters, the manual hand pump evacuation system and the 4 ft evacuation hose with nozzle. Our data itemises nothing beyond that, and we will not pad the list with fittings nobody promised you.

Certification, stated plainly
Our record for this drain claims no third-party listing or independent laboratory approval, and we are not going to imply one on a product that handles a hazardous waste stream. Some workplace insurers and some local environmental rules are specific about approved used-oil handling equipment and about containment. If yours are, check the requirement before you order and ask us to put any question you need answered to the manufacturer in writing.
Shipping and delivery
This drain ships within the lower 48, and the freight cost is quoted live against your delivery address during checkout rather than estimated up front. Palletised deliveries have to come off the trailer at the receiving end, which means equipment on site or collection from the carrier's terminal - for a home address the terminal is usually the easier answer, because a terminal has a dock and a driveway does not. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when you choose it.
Check it over before you sign anything. The vulnerable parts are the funnel rim, the column and the caster mounts. Note any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is with you and photograph it, because once you have signed clear the carrier's paperwork says the shipment arrived in good order.
Warranty
The manufacturer's warranty terms in force when you order are the ones that apply, and we will supply the wording before purchase on request. Claims run through mechanicsuperstore.com/pages/warranty-claims.
If the pump or the reservoir fails, do not take it apart first. Stripping a pump to diagnose it is usually treated as a modification, and it is the quickest way to turn a covered fault into an uncovered one. Photograph the problem, keep the packaging if the damage looks like transit damage, and call us before anything is dismantled.
