Description
-Ranger RWB-2S 2-Shelf Heavy-Duty Work Bench
At 79" wide, the RWB-2S is the long bench in Ranger's work bench family, and length is the point of it. Its siblings trade top area for drawers; this one has no drawers at all. What you get instead is an uninterrupted span of surface with two full-width shelves running underneath it — a bench designed for laying things out rather than putting things away.
That is a real distinction and it decides who should buy it. If your work is teardown, layout, subassembly or anything where a complete set of components needs to sit in order on one surface while you work through it, a long open bench is worth more than the same money spent on lockable storage. If you need tools secured overnight, the drawer version of this bench is the one to look at instead.
Will It Fit?
The bench is 79" wide, 25.25" deep and 34.5" high. Measure the wall run before you order: 79" needs the better part of seven feet of clear wall, and unlike a shorter bench it cannot be nudged into a corner past a door swing or a downpipe. The 25.25" depth is chosen so you can reach the back of the bench without leaning across it, and the 34.5" height is standing-work height — comfortable for most adults working with hand tools, and lower than the teardown bench in the same family.
Allow standing room in front and clearance to slide items onto the shelves from the front rather than the side. Shipping weight is 184 lbs and the crate measures 81" x 27" x 10", which tells you two useful things: it arrives flat, and that 81" carton has to come through your door and round your corners. Measure the route, not just the destination.
Assembly is required. Ranger publishes one operation and assembly manual covering this bench alongside its RWB-2D and RWB-1TD siblings, so plan for a build on arrival rather than a bench you can load the same hour.
Two Shelves, Bolted Rather Than Welded
The two shelves are published as 3/32-inch rolled-edge steel, bolted to the frame rather than welded to it.
The rolled edge is doing structural work, not cosmetic work. A flat steel panel of that gauge will oil-can and sag across a 79" span under a concentrated load; rolling the edge over turns the perimeter into a stiffening rib and dramatically raises the panel's resistance to bending along its length. It also removes the raw sheared edge, which on a shelf you reach into blind is worth having.
Bolting rather than welding is the other deliberate choice. A bolted shelf can be removed, replaced or realigned if it is ever damaged, without cutting the bench apart, and the joint can be re-tensioned if the bench is ever moved and racked. On a piece of shop furniture expected to last decades, serviceability is not a compromise — it is the reason the bench is still in use after the second owner.
Rigidity Is What You Are Actually Buying
The frame is thick steel tubing with reinforced cross members, and the property that matters is resistance to racking: the parallelogram twist that turns a rectangular bench into a leaning one when force is applied sideways rather than downward. Sideways force is exactly what a bench receives when you lever a stuck component, work a breaker bar, or press down on one corner. A bench that racks does not just wobble — it stops being flat, and a surface that is not flat is useless for measurement, gasket work or anything assembled to a tolerance.
The two shelves contribute to this. Each shelf bolted across the full width of the frame acts as a horizontal brace at its height, so the bench is triangulated at three levels rather than relying on the top alone. That is why a shelf bench is stiffer than an open-frame bench of the same steel.
Finish
All steel surfaces are finished after fabrication with an electrostatic, oven-baked powder coat. Applying the coating after cutting and welding matters because cut edges, weld beads and drilled holes are where corrosion starts — a bench painted before it is fabricated has bare steel at every one of those points. The baked finish resists impact, scratching, oil, grease and the solvents that end up on any shop surface.
Perfect For
Professional repair and fabrication shops needing a long, uninterrupted layout surface. Engine and component rebuilders laying out a full set of parts in order. Fleet and municipal workshops where a bench is shared and simple is better than clever. Serious home garages with a wall long enough to take it — this is the bench you buy when the folding table has finally failed you.
What's in the Box
The bench ships flat with its steel tubing frame, the top, two shelves and the fasteners to bolt them together, plus the operation and assembly manual. This listing does not itemise casters, a vice, a backboard or any other accessory, so do not assume any of them are included — ask us if you need one specified on the order.

Load Rating, Stated Honestly
Ranger does not publish a load rating for the RWB-2S in the specification table for this bench, and we are not going to put a number on it that we cannot show you the source for. If your work involves setting a specific known weight on the top — an engine, a gearbox, a stack of brake rotors — ask us to obtain the rating from the manufacturer before you order, and tell us the load you have in mind. That is a better answer than a confident figure nobody can stand behind.
Certification, Stated Honestly
No third-party product listing is claimed for this bench and none is implied here. A work bench is not a lifting device, so the independent-listing question that governs shop lifting equipment does not usually arise. If your workplace policy nonetheless requires load-rated furniture supported by documented test evidence, treat the point above as the starting question and ask for the manufacturer's documentation before relying on the bench for a rated load.
Shipping and Delivery
This bench ships by freight to the lower 48 states. Freight delivery is to the kerb or a dock and not into the building, so you must be able to take the crate off the truck or collect it from the carrier's terminal — and remember it is an 81" crate. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout with the rest of your freight. Inspect the crate before signing and note any damage on the bill of lading at the time of delivery; a bent shelf shows up in the crate and disappears into an assembled bench.
Warranty
Ranger publishes a warranty statement covering its products and it governs this bench. This listing states no term, so no term is quoted here — ask and we will send the current statement before you order. If a part arrives damaged or a joint fails, contact us before cutting, welding or re-drilling anything. A bench that has been modified is one a warranty claim will not cover.
