Description
-Ranger RD-18G Upright Portable Oil Drain with Pump
Two things separate the RD-18G from a bucket on wheels, and both are about what happens after the oil has stopped running. The first is the telescoping funnel column, which adjusts from 56" to 72" (1,422 mm to 1,829 mm), so the funnel reaches a sump on a vehicle that is up on a lift rather than asking you to bring the vehicle down to the drain. The second is that a pump comes as standard, so the tank empties itself into your waste container instead of needing to be manhandled and tipped.
Those two together describe a specific way of working: drain at lift height, wheel the closed unit to the waste tank, pump it out, wheel it back. Nothing is carried and nothing is poured.
Will It Fit?
| What to check | Figure | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustable height | 56" - 72" (1,422 mm - 1,829 mm) | Must reach your lift's working height — measure from floor to sump with the car raised |
| Funnel diameter | 18" (457 mm) | Catchment area; a wide funnel forgives an off-centre drain plug |
| Fluid capacity | 18 gallons | How many drains between trips to the waste tank |
| Weight | 28 lbs. (13 kg) | Light enough for one person to position and steer when empty |
| Shipping carton | 19" x 17" x 31" (483 mm x 431 mm x 800 mm) | Receiving door and storage footprint |
The measurement worth taking before you order is the one from your floor to the sump of a typical vehicle at the height you actually work at. If that lands inside 56" to 72", the funnel reaches. If your lift routinely goes higher than the top of that range, the drain will not reach and no accessory fixes it.
Two things stay your responsibility: a level floor for a tall unit carrying liquid, and lawful arrangements for storing and disposing of what you collect. We can tell you how much the tank holds; only your local rules can tell you what you may do with it.
Why an upright design, when low-profile drains exist
An upright drain is the correct answer whenever the vehicle is already in the air, and it is the better answer for a shop that does most of its oil changes on a lift. The tall column puts the catchment right under the plug with no crawling and no reaching, the operator stands up throughout, and the tank sits directly beneath the funnel so there is no run of open hose to drip across the floor. A low-profile drain solves the opposite problem — a vehicle that cannot be raised — and if that is your situation, a low unit is what you want instead.
The pump, and why it changes the job
Eighteen gallons of used oil is not something anybody should be tipping. The included pump means the tank is evacuated under control through a hose into a bulk waste container, which removes the two worst moments of an oil change: the lift onto the container rim, and the pour. The easy-pour oil spout is there for simple evacuation when that is more convenient, so you have both routes available depending on how your waste storage is set up.
The tank is translucent polyethylene, and this is a small feature with an outsized effect. You can see the level at a glance from across the bay, so nobody starts a drain that will overflow, and nobody wheels a nearly empty tank to the waste store. A steel tank hides its contents and gets emptied on a guess.
Catching everything, and keeping it clean
The funnel is 18" (457 mm) across with a built-in contamination screen, which does the same job as the drain plug magnet: it holds back the sludge, the old crush washer and the fragments of gasket that would otherwise end up in your waste tank and, eventually, in the pump. A rugged funnel matters because it is the part that gets hit — by a wrench, by a filter, by the vehicle itself when a technician misjudges the height.
Fluid is directed by a non-corrosive telescoping tube and a heavy-duty stainless steel clamp holds the column at the height you set. Stainless on the clamp is the correct specification for the one component that is permanently in the splash path and is repeatedly loosened and re-tightened with oily hands.
Moving it around a busy shop
Four swivel ball-bearing casters and built-in hand grips make this a unit that is steered rather than dragged. Every caster swivelling means it can be placed sideways into a gap between a lift post and a bench, which is where drains actually have to live. At 28 lbs. (13 kg) empty it is light to position, and the wide body is what keeps a tall unit stable once there is liquid in it — the mass of a filling tank sits low, inside a footprint wider than the column above it.
Construction resists dents, rust and corrosion, which for a drain is the whole durability question. It is not a piece of equipment that gets treated carefully, and the failure mode that matters is a tank that has been knocked until it seeps.
Perfect For
- Lift-equipped service bays doing routine oil changes with the vehicle raised.
- Quick-service and fast-fit operations where speed depends on nobody bending down.
- Fleet and municipal workshops servicing vans and light trucks on a lift.
- Home garages with a lift, where an upright drain is simply the tidiest way to do the job.
What's in the Box
The RD-18G upright drain, complete with its oil drain pump — the listing states the pump comes as standard — the 18" funnel with its built-in contamination screen, the non-corrosive telescoping tube, the stainless steel clamp, the easy-pour spout, the built-in hand grips and four swivel ball-bearing casters. Waste containers, hoses beyond what is fitted and absorbent are not described as included.
Approvals, stated plainly
Nothing in the data behind this listing claims a third-party approval, listing or conformity mark for this drain, and this page will not imply one. For a portable collection vessel that is ordinary. It is worth saying, though, that waste oil handling is regulated at site level in most places: if your permit, landlord or insurer requires equipment carrying a particular listing, or requires secondary containment, tell us the requirement and we will put it to Ranger rather than reassure you from a product page.
Shipping and delivery
We deliver to the lower 48 states and the shipping charge is calculated live at checkout for the address you enter, so it is current rather than estimated. If the order moves as freight the carrier arranges a delivery window with you, someone must be on site who can take it off the truck, and terminal collection is an option if you would rather bring your own vehicle. A residential address attracts a residential fee. Please check the carton against the paperwork before you sign and record any damage on the delivery receipt at that moment. Collection from the pickup locations listed further down this page is also available.
Warranty
Ranger's written product warranty applies and we will send you the current document on request. The data behind this listing states no term, so none is printed here; ask us and we will confirm it in writing. If the tank, pump or column develops a fault, please do not attempt a repair, a weld or a seal before you have spoken to us — work carried out on a unit before a claim is assessed is the most reliable way to lose a claim that would have been paid.
