Tuxedo 8G-DRAIN: an 8 gallon drain with nothing on it that can break

This is the simple one, and that is the point of it. The 8G-DRAIN has no pump, no hose, no fittings and no seals to perish: you catch the oil, you wheel it to your waste drum, and you empty it through the pour spout. The mechanism is gravity. Nothing about it wears out, nothing about it needs priming, and there is nothing on it that will choose a Friday afternoon to stop working.

For a garage that changes oil a few times a week and keeps its waste container within pushing distance, that is not a compromise - it is the correct specification. You are buying a 17″ catchment funnel, a screen, a see-through tank and four castors, and you are not paying for a pump you would use once a fortnight.

Who should buy a different drain

Better to know this before you order than after. If your waste tank is across the building, if you run several oil changes a day, or if the person doing the emptying should not be tipping a full container, buy a pump-equipped model instead - larger units in this same family evacuate through a hose and a hand pump, and the extra outlay buys back a great deal of lifting. The pour-out design earns its keep where the trip to the drum is short and infrequent.

The 48″ to 63″ column

Height adjusts between 48″ and 63″. Read those two numbers as the working envelope rather than as a feature: at the low end the unit rolls beneath a vehicle on axle stands or a low-rise scissor lift, and towards the top it reaches sumps on a vehicle raised to a comfortable standing height. Take a tape to the drain plug of whatever you service most, at the height you actually work at, and confirm the figure sits inside that band. No one at this end can take that measurement for you.

Note the ceiling of the range honestly: this is a compact column. A drain that has to reach the sump of a full-size truck at the top of a two-post lift wants more height than this model offers, and that is a reason to look at a taller unit rather than a reason to hope.

A 17″ funnel, and the screen that saves your afternoon

The funnel measures 17″ across the mouth. Oil does not leave a sump in a neat vertical column - the first rush comes out sideways, and drain plugs are rarely where you positioned the trolley. A wide catchment turns a near-miss into a clean catch.

Below the funnel sits a built-in contamination screen. Its job is to catch the drain plug you drop, the crush washer that follows it and the sludge that comes with a neglected engine, keeping all of it out of the reservoir. Since this unit empties by pouring, that screen also means what leaves the spout is oil rather than oil plus hardware.

Reading the level, and moving the trolley

The reservoir is translucent polyethylene. You read the level by looking at it - there is no gauge, no float and nothing to jam or mislead. Polyethylene also shrugs off what years of hot, acidic used oil do to a steel tank from the inside. There is a pour spout with a cap for emptying and closing off, and hand grips moulded into the reservoir body for the lift at the drum.

It rolls on four 3.5″ swivel casters. Four swivelling wheels rather than two lets you crab the funnel sideways under a plug in small corrections rather than steering the whole trolley around in an arc, which is what you spend your time doing under a car.

Perfect For

  • One- and two-bay independents where the waste drum is in the same room and the drain gets emptied a couple of times a week.
  • Home and enthusiast garages with a low-rise lift or axle stands, where a simple catch-and-pour unit is all the job asks for.
  • Motorcycle, powersports and small-engine shops, where volumes per service are small and floor space is short.
  • A second drain for a bay that already has a pump-out unit, so one machine is not tying up two technicians.

What is in the box

The manufacturer's feature list gives the funnel with its built-in contamination screen, the translucent polyethylene reservoir, the pour spout and cap, integrated reservoir hand grips and four swivel casters. There is no hose and no pump on this model - by design, as described above. Our data lists nothing further, and we will not invent fittings.

Certification, stated plainly

No third-party listing or independent laboratory approval is claimed for this unit in our product record, and we will not imply one. Used oil is a regulated waste stream in most places, and some workplace insurers and local authorities set requirements for the equipment that handles it and for secondary containment. Check what applies to your site before ordering; if you need a specific point confirmed by the manufacturer in writing, ask us and we will get it.

Shipping and delivery

Shipping is within the lower 48, quoted live against your address at checkout rather than estimated beforehand. If the unit travels as palletised freight, unloading is the receiver's responsibility - either equipment on site or collection from the carrier's terminal, which for a house is usually the simpler route because a terminal has a dock. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Look before you sign. The funnel rim, the column and the caster mounts are what take knocks in transit. Anything you find goes on the bill of lading in front of the driver, with a photograph; a clean signature is what a carrier will hold up if you claim afterwards.

Warranty

Whatever warranty terms the manufacturer has in force when you order are the terms that govern, and we will send you that wording before you buy if you want to read it first. Claims are handled through mechanicsuperstore.com/pages/warranty-claims.

If something fails, leave it intact until a claim is open. Equipment that has been dismantled for a look is generally treated as modified, and that is how covered faults become uncovered ones. Photograph it, keep the packaging when the damage might be transit-related, and speak to us before anyone reaches for a spanner.
