The job that ruins an oil drain is not filling it. It is emptying it. A full portable drain is heavy, awkward and full of hot used oil, and every shop has a story about tipping one into a waste tank. This one empties itself: shop air pressurises the reservoir and pushes the contents out through a 7 ft evacuation hose into your waste container, with the operator holding a nozzle rather than a full tank. That is the whole design argument for the 24G-SE-DRAIN, and it is why the pneumatic self-evacuation feature is worth more than the gallon figure on the label.

Self-evacuation, in practice

A conventional drain has to be wheeled to the waste tank, lifted and tipped, which is a two-person job at any real capacity and a spill risk every time. With pneumatic evacuation you roll the drain to the waste container, connect air, open the valve and let pressure do the work through the hose. The consequences are worth spelling out: no lifting a loaded tank, far less chance of spilling used oil on a shop floor, and an emptying routine short enough that people actually do it before the drain is overfull rather than after.

An air pressure gauge and regulator are built in, so the evacuation runs at a controlled pressure instead of whatever your line happens to be delivering. On a pressurised vessel that is not a convenience feature.

The funnel, the screen and the sight tube

The receiving funnel is 17" across. That is a wide target, which matters more than it sounds when you are under a raised vehicle judging the position of a drain plug by feel, and it is the difference between catching an off-angle stream and mopping the floor.

Built into the funnel is a contamination screen. Its real job is catching what falls in with the oil — the drain plug itself, its washer, a socket — before any of it disappears into the reservoir. Anyone who has drained a tank looking for a dropped plug will recognise why this earns its place.

The reservoir is steel with a fill sight tube, so the fill level is read off the machine rather than guessed. A sight tube is the feature that stops the overfill that causes the spill.

Will it fit under your vehicles?

Working height adjusts from 50" to 73", and this is the specification to check before ordering, because a drain that will not reach is a drain you cannot use.

The lower end suits a vehicle on ramps, on jack stands or on a low-rise lift. The upper end is for a car up on a two-post or four-post lift, where the sump can sit well over head height and a fixed-height drain simply cannot get the funnel to the plug. Measure the actual height of the drain plug on the vehicles you service most, at the working height you use, and confirm it falls inside that 50" to 73" window.

Then check two more things. First, the floor: the unit rolls on two swivel casters and two fixed wheels, so it wants a reasonably smooth surface and it will not like an expansion joint when loaded. Second, air: you need a shop air line that will reach the drain where you intend to empty it, which is usually near the waste tank rather than near the lift.

Site preparation, the air supply and safe disposal of the used fluid are the customer's responsibility. Handle used oil in line with your local waste regulations.

Shipping and delivery

Delivery is by freight carrier to addresses in the lower 48 states, with the cost quoted live against your address during checkout rather than estimated up front. Plan the unload before ordering: a forklift, a dock, sufficient hands and equipment, or a terminal collection you arrange with the carrier. Deliveries to a residential address carry a residential fee, added at checkout where it applies, and warehouse pickup is available if you would rather collect.

Inspect the shipment before signing for it. On a drain the things to look at are the funnel and the tank: check for cracks or deformation in the plastic funnel, dents in the reservoir, damage to the casters and any sign the crate has been dropped or crushed. Write whatever you find on the bill of lading while the driver is present — a dented tank noted on the paperwork is a claim, and the same dent found after a clean signature is an argument you will probably lose.
