LANAIR XT300 Waste Oil Heater

The XT300 sits at the top of Lanair's XT range, and the specification that separates it from the smaller cabinets is structural rather than cosmetic: a 10 gauge cold-rolled steel combustion chamber behind an 8" Class A flue. The lighter XT cabinets are built on 12 gauge steel and vent through a narrower flue. Heavier plate and a wider chimney are what allow this unit to run at up to 300,000 BTUH continuously and to be set up as a ducted installation, so the heat is delivered where the work happens instead of pooling in the bay directly under the burner.

It is a suspended, oil-fired shop heater for a business that already generates used fluids and is currently paying somebody to haul them away. Instead of a disposal line on the monthly accounts, the same oil becomes the building's heat. It burns 100% used synthetic oil as well as used crankcase oil up to 50 weight, used automatic transmission fluid, and #1 and #2 fuel oil.

Will It Fit?

A waste oil heater is a mechanical installation, not an appliance you plug in, so work through these four before you order.

• The cabinet. 47" x 46" x 36" (L x W x H). It hangs, so you need a structural point that will carry it plus service access on the door side — the chamber door swings open on its hinges for clean-out and it needs room to do that.
• The chimney. 8" Class A pipe, and the connection can leave the cabinet from the top or from the side. The side option is the one that saves an awkward installation where a truss or a light run sits directly above the chosen hanging point.
• Electrical. A dedicated 120V, 20 amp supply. That is a standard shop circuit, but it needs to be its own circuit rather than a spur shared with a compressor that starts under load.
• Compressed air. 2 CFM at 15-18 PSI, available whenever the burner is firing. The air supply is not optional and it is the requirement most often overlooked in a small building where the compressor is switched off at night.

Clearances to combustibles, the chimney route through the structure, the load rating of whatever you hang it from, and the permit and inspection position where you trade are all the buyer's responsibility. We supply the equipment and the documentation; we cannot approve your building.

A heavier chamber is a maintenance decision, not a marketing one

Everything a waste oil burner does is harder on steel than a gas burner. The fuel carries whatever the engine left in it, combustion leaves ash and carbon, and the chamber is scraped out on a schedule for the life of the machine. Chamber gauge is therefore about how many of those cycles the metal absorbs. Stepping the XT300 up to 10 gauge cold-rolled steel is the single most consequential difference between it and its smaller siblings, and it is the reason the top-of-range unit is the one specified for shops that intend to run it hard through a long heating season rather than take the edge off a cold morning.

Access was designed around the same reality. The chamber door is hinged rather than bolted, so a clean-out is a matter of opening it instead of removing and refitting a panel with a socket set. A large side access panel opens onto the collector box, which is where the residue actually accumulates. The burner assembly is designed to be removed rather than serviced in place, and the unit carries an hour meter, a prime switch, and a noncontinuous spark transformer that stops the ignition circuit running once the flame is established.

Ducting is what the extra output is for

Output figures on their own are misleading in a large building. A high BTUH rating heats the volume of air the unit can actually reach, and a suspended heater with an axial fan reaches a radius. The XT300 supports a ducted installation, which is what turns a rating of up to 300,000 BTUH into even coverage across a floor plate of up to 10,000 square feet. If you are heating one open bay, ducting is unnecessary. If you are heating a long building, a paint area that has to stay above a threshold, or a shop with a partitioned parts room, being able to run duct off the cabinet is the difference between a warm building and a warm heater.

Perfect For

• Multi-bay repair and fleet shops that already drain enough oil to feed a burner rated at 2.1 GPH and are paying to dispose of it.
• Large open buildings — fabrication floors, equipment dealers, agricultural workshops — where 10,000 square feet is realistic coverage rather than a marketing figure.
• Shops that need heat in more than one zone, which is where the ducted option earns its keep.
• Operations that have moved to synthetics and found their existing burner will not take the drainings.

What's in the Box

This listing is the XT300 heater itself. Chimney components, the storage tank and the pump are configured to the building and are not part of this line item — Lanair sells the XT series as bare units and as value packages with venting and tank included, and the packages are separate listings. If you are not sure which parts of the installation you already have, talk to us before ordering rather than after.

Specifications

One number we have deliberately left off this page. Two different hanging weights appear in the data we hold for this cabinet, and they do not agree. Rather than print the wrong figure for a machine you are about to suspend from a roof structure, we have omitted it. Ask us and we will confirm it against the factory sheet before you size the hangers.

Approvals and your local code

The specification sheet behind this listing does not state a third-party safety listing for this unit. That distinction matters more with oil-fired equipment than with most shop tools: a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity and a listing issued by an independent testing laboratory are different documents, and they are not interchangeable. Insurers, fleet safety policies and local mechanical and fire codes frequently require the second one before an installation can be signed off. If any of those apply to you, ask us for the current documentation package for this model and confirm the requirement in writing before you buy.

Shipping and Delivery

This unit ships as freight within the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout against your delivery address, so the figure you see is current rather than an estimate we typed in months ago. The carrier delivers to the kerb or the dock; unloading is on you, so either have a forklift and someone to run it, or choose terminal pickup and collect it yourself. Residential delivery is available and carries an additional fee. When it arrives, inspect the crate before the driver leaves and write any damage on the delivery receipt as you sign it — a signed clean receipt makes a freight claim very difficult to win afterwards.

Warranty

This heater is covered by the manufacturer's warranty; the current terms and the claim process are set out on our warranty claims page. One practical warning that applies to every oil-fired unit we sell: if something fails, do not strip the burner or the chamber down before you have opened a claim.
