Ranger RCD-1500 1,500 lb. Capacity GoCart Car Dollies

RCD-1500: The Dolly That Publishes Rim Size and Tire Size

Nearly every car dolly on the market quotes one fitment number. The Ranger RCD-1500 quotes three, and the extra ones are the useful ones: a wheel size capacity of 8 in. to 24 in. (203 mm to 610 mm), a tire diameter capacity of 15 in. to 28 in. (381 mm to 711 mm), and a tire width capacity of 12 in. (305 mm).

Those first two are different measurements and it is worth knowing why both are printed. Wheel size is the rim — the number stamped on your tire's sidewall after the aspect ratio. Tire diameter is the whole assembly standing on the floor, rubber included. A low-profile 24 in. rim and a tall-sidewall 15 in. rim can end up remarkably close in overall diameter, and only one of those numbers tells you whether the rollers will sit right against the wheel. Being given both is the difference between ordering with confidence and ordering with hope.

Rated at 1,500 lbs (680 kg) per dolly and 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg) across a set of four, the RCD-1500 covers most cars, light trucks and utility vehicles — and turns each wheel into a caster so a vehicle that will not run, steer or roll can still be put exactly where you want it.

Will It Fit?

Take three measurements before ordering: the rim diameter, the standing diameter of the fitted tire, and the tread width. Check each against 8 in. to 24 in., 15 in. to 28 in., and 12 in. respectively. It is tire width that catches people out on modern performance cars, where the rear tread is much wider than the front.

For storage, the frames collapse inward to a stowed footprint of 21 in. x 24 in. (533 mm x 610 mm) each, so a set stands against a wall or slides under a bench instead of eating a parking space. In use the casters + frame height is 6 in. (152 mm), on casters 4 in. (102 mm) in diameter.

The published caster-to-handle dimension of 18 in. (457 mm) is the specification nobody thinks to ask about and everybody uses: it is the leverage you get when you push, and it decides whether repositioning a loaded vehicle feels like steering or like wrestling.

What the building has to provide is a level, hard, swept floor. A vehicle on four dollies has no brakes and no steering — that is the entire point, and also the entire hazard. Confirming your floor is flat, sound and free of drains, joints and slope is the buyer's job.

Phenolic Resin Wheels, and Why the Material Was Chosen

The rolling wheels are phenolic resin rather than rubber or bare steel, and that is a considered choice rather than a cost one. Phenolic is hard, so it does not squash under a concentrated load or develop flat spots when a vehicle sits on the dollies for a season. It is chemically stubborn, so the oil, brake fluid, solvent and degreaser that live on a shop floor do not soften or swell it. And it is non-marking, so it does not print black lines across epoxy, paint or a polished slab. The practical result is a wheel that keeps rolling the way it rolled on day one; steel wheels roll beautifully and destroy the floor.

Two Independent Things Holding the Load Up

Lifting is done with a hydraulic foot pump, so the technician stays upright and both hands stay free rather than bending over a wheel to heave on a lever. Once the wheel is clear, a locking pin fixes the height mechanically — holding even after pressure is released — and a check valve stops the hydraulics dropping suddenly.

Mechanical and hydraulic retention, working independently. On a tool whose failure mode is a car falling a few inches onto a technician's foot, that redundancy is the specification that matters most and gets discussed least.

Stability, Frame and Fatigue

The frame sits deliberately low, keeping the centre of gravity down and the tipping risk with it. The telescoping arms open wide enough to take a broad tire while the structure stays rigid, and the steel is reinforced at the joints because joints are where a dolly frame goes soft first — not by snapping, but by slowly sagging out of alignment until the unit no longer sits square under a wheel. The hydraulic system uses durable seals against both leakage and abrasive contamination, and the rollers are picked to be strong without being hard on rims — the balance that separates a dolly you use on customer cars from one you use only on your own.

Perfect For

  • Service shops receiving non-runners on flatbeds and needing them repositioned without a tow.
  • Body and paint shops rotating a car in place rather than moving lights, screens and equipment around it.
  • Collector and storage garages parking tighter than driving allows, and extracting one car from the middle.
  • Restoration projects where a rolling shell has to move long before it has a drivetrain.
  • Home garages trying to get a workbench and a car into the same footprint.

What's in the Box

Two weights are published and they are worth reading together: a unit weight of 42 lbs (19 kg) and a shipping weight of 86 lbs (39 kg), in a package measuring 34 in. x 25 in. x 11 in. (863 mm x 640 mm x 279 mm). The manufacturer's data does not state how many dollies make up a purchase — capacity is quoted both per dolly and for a set of four, which is a rating, not a packing list. Since you need one at every corner for the tool to do anything, ask us and we will confirm what ships against current stock before you order.

Certification, Stated Honestly

No third-party safety listing is claimed for this product in the data we hold, and we will not imply one. It is better said than left to inference: certain insurers, fleet safety policies and local inspection regimes require independently listed equipment wherever a vehicle is supported, and a wheel dolly is generally treated as a moving aid rather than as vehicle support to begin with. Read your standard's wording before you buy if one applies to you — and regardless of what it says, use rated stands or a lift for any work performed underneath a vehicle. Dollies are for moving, never for holding.

Shipping and Delivery

Shipped within the lower 48 states, at a rate quoted live at checkout for your destination. Heavier orders in this category travel as freight, so you or someone at the delivery address must be able to receive and unload the shipment, or arrange to collect it from the carrier's terminal instead. Residential deliveries carry an additional fee, shown before you pay. Warehouse pickup is available at our published pickup locations.

Check the shipment before you sign. Crushed corners, a shifted pallet or any visible damage goes on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery — after a clean bill is signed a claim gets very hard to win, and a frame that took a knock in transit is not one to put a car on.

Warranty

Ranger's warranty for this product is published as a downloadable document, and that document governs rather than any retailer's summary, so no term is quoted here. Download it from the product page and read the exclusions if warranty length matters to your decision.

If you need to claim, leave the unit intact. Do not disassemble a frame or open a cylinder to work out what happened — self-diagnosis is the single most common reason a legitimate claim is refused. Photograph the fault and call us before anything comes apart.
