An injector that is sticking, an injector with a partially failed winding, and an injector with a wiring fault look identical to a scan tool and quite different on a scope. This is how you find the cylinder that is misbehaving without pulling a rail.

Primary ignition. The primary side of the ignition circuit carries the story of the coil's control — dwell, turn-off, and the ringing that follows. Reading it is how a technician distinguishes a coil problem from a driver-circuit problem from a fault further upstream, on an intermittent misfire that will not set a useful code.

Neither of these is exotic diagnosis. They are the standard approach to faults that codes describe but do not explain, and they are the reason a workshop buys a scope in the first place. The attenuator is the small part that makes the second of them possible.
