A telescoping jack puts its load at the top of a tall column, and the further the column extends the more a small floor irregularity turns into a real tipping moment. The trade is footprint. Those 39 inches have to fit between the arms or runways of your lift with room to steer, so the stability comes out of your floor space budget. The Capacity Number That Actually Applies

Read that carefully, because it inverts the way most people shop. The higher you need to reach, the less the jack is rated to carry. The 37" figure is the one that catches people out: the saddle has to pass under the transmission with the vehicle at working height, so a car on stands or a low-rise lift will very often not give this jack enough room. How the Telescoping Column Works for You
The column extends vertically through a long range rather than swinging on an arm, which does two things. It keeps the load directly over the base — no reach-out, no cantilever — and it lets the saddle drop into recessed transmission housings and deep tunnels that a fixed-height jack cannot enter.
