Lanair XTD300 Waste Oil Heater — the ductable unit, sold on its own

The XTD300 is the heater by itself: no tank, no chimney kit, no ancillaries. That is the right way to buy it if your building already has a used-oil tank and a flue you intend to reuse, and it is the wrong way to buy it if you are starting from an empty wall. The reason to reach for the XTD rather than the XT sitting next to it in the range is one line in the spec table: Ductable Option — Yes. The XTD is designed to have ductwork hung off it, so the heat can be taken away from the cabinet and delivered where the work happens.

That single word changes what the machine is for. A free-blowing shop heater warms the volume of air around itself and relies on the building to move it. A ducted heater lets you decide: a run down a long bay, a drop over a wash-down area, a branch into a parts room that would otherwise stay cold. If you have a shop with a partition wall in it, that flexibility is usually worth more than raw output.

Settle the electrical supply before delivery, not after

This is the one item on the page we want you to read twice, because the published figures for it differ. The spec table on this listing states the power supply as two 120 V legs, and the manufacturer's overview text on this same product agrees: it describes a supply of two 120 V legs plus compressed air. The packaged versions of the same heater, listed separately on this site, state a single 120-volt supply instead. Those are not the same circuit, and they are not the same job for an electrician.

Both figures are printed above, each against the listing that publishes it, and the right move is to confirm the supply with us in writing before you book an electrician. Getting this right in advance costs a phone call. Getting it wrong means a second visit and a heater sitting on a pallet in the meantime.

Compressed air is not optional

The XTD300 atomises its fuel with shop air, and it needs 2 CFM at 15-18 PSI, continuously, whenever the burner runs. A compressor that normally wakes up for an impact gun is now heating plant, and it will cycle through the night in January. The air also has to be clean and dry — wet air is how a heating season turns into a service call — so plan for a dryer and a filter on the line feeding the heater.

Serviceability, and why it decides how much you like this heater

Every waste oil heater accumulates ash. What does not burn stays in the combustion chamber and works its way toward the collector box. A heater you can open is a heater that gets cleaned; a heater that fights you gets cleaned once. The XTD300 is built around that: the chamber door is hinged rather than bolted, there is a large side-access panel to the collector box, and the burner lifts out rather than being dismantled in place. An hour meter tells you when a cleanout is due, a prime switch handles the fuel line, and a noncontinuous spark transformer means the ignition circuit is not live every minute the heater is.

The combustion chamber itself is 10-gauge cold-rolled steel. That is a thickness chosen for the scraping and thermal cycling a waste oil chamber lives through, and it is a reasonable proxy for how many seasons the unit has in it.

Will it fit?

This is a hanging unit, so the questions are structural before they are dimensional. The cabinet measures 36" high x 45.5" wide x 54" deep and its hanging weight is 696 lbs — that load goes into your building's structure, and confirming the structure can take it is the customer's responsibility, not ours and not the carrier's. If you are hanging it from a wood-framed roof or an older steel building, have someone qualified look at the connection points before the heater arrives.

Venting is 8" Class A chimney, and the flue can leave the cabinet at the top or the left side, which is what usually decides where in the bay it can go. Leave working room in front of the chamber door and beside the collector-box panel; a heater installed in a corner where the door cannot swing is a heater that never gets serviced properly. Clearances to combustibles, chimney height above the roofline and any permit requirement are set by your local mechanical code — check them before you buy, not after.

One more figure to note: this listing gives the fuel input as 2.1 GPH, while the packaged versions of the same heater give 2.14 GPH. The gap is small and it does not change the sizing decision. If it decides yours, confirm the figure with us before you order.

• A partitioned building — the ductable design is the whole argument for the XTD over the XT, and it only pays off if you have somewhere to run duct.
• A high-volume service bay — a shop generating its own used oil turns a disposal cost into a heating budget.
• A fleet or municipal garage — steady oil supply, a building that needs heat anyway, and a maintenance department that will actually do the cleanouts.

Freight delivery, and what we need from you

This heater ships freight to the lower 48 states, crated, on a pallet. The driver brings it to your address; getting it off the truck is yours to arrange. A forklift or a dock makes it simple. If you have neither, take the shipment at the carrier's terminal and move it yourself — that option is open on every freight order we ship. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout.

Inspect before you sign. Walk the pallet, look for crushed corners, torn shrink and shifted banding, and write anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's proof that the shipment arrived intact, and a damage claim opened afterwards is a much harder argument to win.
