Description
-Lanair XT300 Waste Oil Heater — Value Package 2
Shop heaters are rarely retired because they stopped making heat. They are retired because the cabinet rusted through around the fasteners, the panels stopped sealing and the unit became a nuisance nobody wanted to service. The XT300's cabinet is fine-grained galvanized steel, specified rust-resistant by the manufacturer, and in a lot of buildings that is the specification that determines how many winters you get out of it.
Consider where these units actually live. Above a wash bay, where humidity peaks every time a truck is rinsed. In a coastal shop with salt in the air. In a building that is heated hard all day and left to go cold and damp overnight, cycling the cabinet through the dew point twice every twenty-four hours for five months a year. A painted mild-steel enclosure in that environment is on a clock. A galvanized one is not on the same clock.
What it is
Value Package 2 is the XT300 heater together with a chimney kit sized for a 16 ft eave. The heater is the largest in the XT line: 300,000 BTUH, a listed heating area of 10,000 square feet, and a fuel input of 2.14 GPH. It burns what a workshop produces — used crankcase oil up to 50 weight, used synthetic oil, used automatic transmission fluid and used #1 and #2 fuel oil — which is the reason anybody buys a waste oil heater in the first place: the disposal cost and the heating cost cancel each other out.
The rest of the build
Behind the cabinet, three things are worth knowing. The combustion chamber is 10-gauge cold-rolled steel; a waste oil chamber gets scraped clean every few weeks through the season, and the gauge is what makes that survivable. The fan sits inside the cabinet, which Lanair specifies in order to keep the noise level in the shop down. And the discharge runs through adjustable locking louvers, so the airflow can be aimed and then left aimed instead of creeping back out of position.
The burner is the current XT-series unit, which Lanair describes as more efficient than its earlier designs. That is the manufacturer's comparison against its own previous generation and we will leave it framed that way rather than turn it into a claim about the market.
Chimney kit contents
Cut for a 16 ft eave, this kit contains one chimney cap, one 24" Class A chimney pipe, one storm collar, one roof flashing for a 0/12-6/12 pitch, one 36" Class A chimney pipe, one finishing collar, one 14" slip connector, four 24" lengths of black pipe, one black tee pipe with cap, one roof support bracket and one 90 degree elbow.
Measure before you order. Eave height, roof pitch and the horizontal distance from the heater to the penetration all decide whether that list finishes the job. If your building is taller than the kit assumes or your pitch steeper than a 6/12 pitch, tell us before you order and we will quote the extra sections.
Will it fit?
The cabinet measures 36" high x 46" wide x 48" deep and the unit hangs at a listed weight of 630 lbs — a structural question that belongs to the customer. Have the mounting points and the supporting structure assessed by someone qualified before delivery.
Services: 120 V-60Hz, 20 Amps for power; 2 CFM of compressed air at 15-18 PSI, continuously, whenever the burner is firing; 8" Class A chimney with the flue leaving at the top or the side. That compressed-air requirement deserves a moment's thought at the design stage rather than the installation stage: your compressor becomes a component of the heating system for the season, so give it a dryer and a filter on the branch that feeds the heater. Clearance to combustibles, chimney termination height and permitting are local-code matters and are yours to verify.

Ducting: this listing shows the ductable option as Call rather than a yes or a no, while two XT250 packages on this site show No. If ductwork is part of your plan, treat that as unanswered — ask us and we will confirm with Lanair, or look at the XTD models, which are listed as ductable.
Perfect for
- Wash bays and damp buildings — the cabinet specification is the point of this page.
- Coastal shops — salt air is unkind to painted enclosures.
- Buildings left cold overnight — repeated condensation cycles are what kill heater cabinets.
- Large open workshops — 10,000 square feet of listed coverage with the output aimed by the louvers.
On certification
The manufacturer states that its units are UL listed, and that statement appears on this product's current page. We repeat it here as Lanair's claim.
Be aware of what it does not cover. A listing describes the appliance; it does not approve your installation. Clearances, chimney termination, combustion air and permits are set by local mechanical code, and insurers and fleet safety policies sometimes add conditions of their own. Confirm the requirements with your local authority before ordering, and ask us if you need current documentation to hand to an underwriter.
Shipping
Freight to the lower 48 states, crated on a pallet. The driver delivers to your address; taking it off the truck is the customer's job. Forklift or dock if you have one; otherwise take terminal pickup, which is available on every freight order we ship. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout.
Check the crate before signing anything — corners, wrap, banding — and write what you find on the bill of lading in the driver's presence, with photographs. A clean signature is the carrier's proof of an undamaged delivery.
Warranty
Terms are the manufacturer's; ask us for the warranty document for this model if you want to read it before ordering. In every case: do not take apart a component you intend to claim on. Once opened in the field it usually falls outside coverage. Photograph the fault as found and start at our warranty claims page.
