Description
-Lanair XT300 Waste Oil Heater — Value Package 1
Output is easy to buy and hard to use. A 300,000 BTUH heater hung in a shop with a high roof will happily warm the roof steel while the technicians work in a cold layer at floor level, and the owner concludes the heater is undersized when it is simply pointing at nothing. The XT300 has two features aimed squarely at that problem, and they are the reason to read past the headline number: an internal fan and adjustable locking louvers.
The louvers let you aim the discharge — down the bay, across a work area, away from a bench where the airflow is a nuisance — and, crucially, they lock, so the setting you chose in November is still the setting in February rather than a position that drifted with vibration. The fan is mounted inside the cabinet, which Lanair specifies to keep noise down in the shop; a heater nobody wants to stand near is a heater that gets turned down.
What the package includes, piece by piece
This is the XT300 heater plus a chimney kit sized for a 16 ft eave. We list it in full because "chimney kit included" is the phrase that hides the most between one supplier and another:
| Item | Qty |
|---|---|
| Chimney cap | 1 |
| Class A chimney pipe, 24" | 1 |
| Storm collar | 1 |
| Roof flashing, 0/12-6/12 pitch | 1 |
| Class A chimney pipe, 36" | 1 |
| Finishing collar | 1 |
| Slip connector, 14" | 1 |
| Black pipe, 24" | 4 |
| Black tee pipe with cap | 1 |
| Roof support bracket | 1 |
| Elbow, 90 degree | 1 |
The listing notes this kit applies to the XT 250/300 units. The flashing covers roof pitches from flat to a 6/12 pitch, which fits most commercial roofs and a good number of residential ones — but measure your own pitch and your own eave height before you assume the kit is complete for your building. A run that turns out to need extra pipe is a cheap problem discovered early and an expensive one discovered on installation day. Ask us and we will price the additional sections.
Fuel, and the economics
The XT300 burns what a service bay already generates: used crankcase oil up to 50 weight, used synthetic oil, used automatic transmission fluid, and used #1 and #2 fuel oil. That is the entire commercial case in one sentence — a stream you currently pay somebody to take away becomes the fuel for the building. The heat range is 300,000 BTUH, the listed heating area is 10,000 square feet, and the fuel input is 2.14 GPH, which is the figure to use if you want to work out whether your own oil generation can keep the burner fed through a season.
What does not belong in the tank: solvents, brake cleaner, antifreeze, gasoline and parts-washer fluid. Every shop has somebody who thinks the waste oil tank is a general drain. That person costs you a burner.
Will it fit?
The cabinet is 36" high x 46" wide x 48" deep, and the unit hangs — so before dimensions, the structure. Confirm that your roof structure or wall steel can carry the load and that the mounting points are sound; that check is the customer's responsibility and it is worth a qualified opinion rather than a confident guess.
Venting is 8" Class A chimney, and the flue can leave the cabinet at the top or the side. Power is 120 V-60Hz, 20 Amps. Compressed air must be available at 2 CFM, 15-18 PSI the whole time the burner runs, which makes the shop compressor part of the heating system — give it a dryer and a filter on that line. Leave service clearance in front of the unit and room for the louvers to throw where you want them. Clearances to combustibles, chimney height above the roof and any permit are set locally, and checking them is on the buyer.

Note on ducting: the spec table for this package lists the ductable option as Call, not yes or no. Two of the XT250 packages on this site list it as No outright. If you intend to run duct off the heater, do not infer an answer from either — ask us and we will confirm with Lanair, or look at the XTD models, which are listed as ductable.
Perfect for
- Tall open shops — where aiming the heat is the difference between comfortable and nominally heated.
- Busy service bays — enough oil generated on site to keep the burner fed.
- Fleet and municipal garages — disposal budget and heating budget become one line.
- Farm and equipment workshops — a steady oil supply and a building nobody enjoys heating conventionally.
Safety listing
Lanair states that its units are UL listed, and that claim is on this product's current page. We are repeating it as the manufacturer's claim, which is what it is.
What a listing does not do is settle your installation. Local mechanical codes govern clearances, chimney termination and combustion air; an insurer or a fleet safety policy may impose conditions of its own; and some jurisdictions require a permit and an inspection for a fuel-burning appliance regardless of what it is listed to. Check with your authority having jurisdiction before you buy, and if you need current listing documentation to satisfy an insurer, ask us and we will obtain it.
Freight delivery
Ships freight to the lower 48 states, crated and palletised. The carrier delivers to your address and unloading is the customer's responsibility — a forklift or a dock makes it trivial, and if you have neither, terminal pickup is available on every freight order we ship. A residential address carries a residential fee, which is applied at checkout.
Inspect the pallet before signing. Note any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is present and photograph it; a signed clean receipt is the carrier's evidence that nothing was wrong on arrival.
Warranty
Coverage is the manufacturer's and the warranty document is in the Downloads section of this page. Standing advice: do not disassemble a part you intend to claim on — a field-opened component is usually outside the terms. Photograph it as found and start the claim through our warranty claims page.
