LANAIR XT250 Waste Oil Heater

Read the XT250's specification sheet next to the model above it and almost every line is the same: identical cabinet at 47" x 46" x 36", the same 8" Class A flue, the same axial fan, the same 10 gauge cold-rolled steel combustion chamber. One line is not the same, and it is the one that should decide your purchase. The XT250 is listed as not ductable. It heats the volume of air it can throw; it is not designed to feed a duct run to a second area.

That is a limitation worth stating plainly, because it is invisible in a BTUH figure. Rated at up to 250,000 BTUH over as much as 8,500 square feet, this is a large heater — but it is a large open-space heater. If your building is one hall, one workshop floor or one open equipment shed, that is exactly the right architecture and you are not paying for ductwork capability you will never connect. If your building is partitioned, or you need heat delivered to a room the fan cannot see, this is the wrong unit in the range and you should be looking at the ductable model instead.

Fuel: what it will actually burn

The XT250 burns 100% used synthetic oil. That sentence has become the important one for most shops in the last few years: as vehicles moved to synthetic and semi-synthetic lubricants, plenty of older waste oil burners started to struggle with what was coming out of the drain pans. Alongside synthetics it takes used crankcase oil up to 50 weight, conventional or synthetic, used automatic transmission fluid, and #1 and #2 fuel oil. Fuel input is 1.8 GPH.

The commercial case is simply arithmetic on your own numbers. If you currently pay a hauler to collect used oil, that cost disappears and the same volume becomes the building's heat, which removes a second cost. Whether that adds up in your shop depends on how many litres you actually collect in a season — a figure you already know and we do not.

Will It Fit?

Four checks against the building, all of them before the order rather than after:

• Suspension and cabinet. The cabinet measures 47" x 46" x 36" (L x W x H) and hangs from the structure. Leave clearance for the chamber door to swing on its hinges — that is your clean-out access and a unit hung tight to a wall makes routine maintenance a two-person job.
• Flue. 8" Class A, exiting either the top of the cabinet or the side. Decide which before you pick the hanging position, because the side exit is often what makes a difficult roof or truss layout workable.
• Electrical. 120V, 20 amps, on its own circuit.
• Compressed air. 2 CFM at 15-18 PSI whenever the burner runs. Shops that switch the compressor off overnight need to think about this before they think about anything else on this list.

Clearance to combustible material, the chimney route, the structural rating of the hanging point and any permit or inspection your jurisdiction requires remain the buyer's responsibility. We can supply documentation; we cannot certify your building.

Built to be cleaned, because it will be

A burner running on used fluid deposits ash and carbon, and the interval between clean-outs is one of the real running costs of this kind of heating. The XT250 is arranged so that job is quick. The chamber door is hinged, not bolted, so it opens rather than coming off. A large access panel in the side reaches the collector box where residue gathers. The burner assembly lifts out for service instead of being worked on in place. An hour meter tells you when the interval is due rather than leaving you to guess, a prime switch handles fuel priming, and the spark transformer is noncontinuous, so the ignition circuit is not running the whole time the unit is firing.

Perfect For

• Single-space workshops of up to roughly 8,500 square feet — one open floor, no partitions to heat around.
• Independent repair shops and truck bays generating a steady volume of drain oil.
• Agricultural and equipment sheds, where an open span suits a fan-driven heater and ducting was never going to happen.
• Buyers who want the large-chamber build without paying for duct capability they have no plan to use.

What's in the Box

This is the heater as a unit. Venting components, the oil storage tank and the transfer pump are specified against the building and are sold separately or as one of the XT value packages, which are listed on their own pages. If you are ordering a first installation rather than replacing an existing one, check the parts list with us — the most common cause of a stalled install is discovering the chimney kit was never on the order.

Specifications

A figure we are not printing. Our records carry two different hanging weights for this cabinet and they disagree with each other. Since the number's only real use is sizing what you hang the machine from, publishing the wrong one would be worse than publishing none. Contact us and we will confirm the correct weight from the manufacturer's sheet before you order the hardware.

Approvals, stated honestly

No third-party safety listing is stated in the specification data behind this listing. It is worth understanding what that does and does not mean. A manufacturer declaring that a product meets a standard is not the same thing as an independent laboratory testing the product and listing it, and where oil-fired equipment is concerned that difference is often the whole question. Fire and mechanical codes, commercial insurers and fleet safety policies commonly ask for the independent listing specifically. If yours does, ask us for the current documentation for this model and get the requirement confirmed before you commit.

Shipping and Delivery

Delivery is by freight carrier to addresses in the lower 48 states, with the cost quoted live at checkout for your address rather than baked into this page. Plan the unload: freight arrives on a trailer and the carrier is not there to lift it into your shop, so arrange a forklift and an operator, or select terminal pickup and collect it on your own equipment. Deliveries to a residential address are possible and attract an extra fee. Inspect the shipment against the paperwork while the driver is still there, and record any damage on the bill of lading before signing it — signing clean and finding damage later leaves you with very little.

The manufacturer's warranty applies. Current terms, coverage and the process for opening a claim are published on our warranty claims page. Please do not dismantle the burner or the combustion chamber before a claim is raised. It feels like the helpful thing to do and it is the single most common reason a good claim gets held up: an assessor needs to see the failure as it happened, not the parts in a box.
