Ranger RML-1100 Motorcycle Jack: 1,100 lbs, Raised by a Screw

The RML-1100 is a compact scissor jack for motorcycles, ATVs and small recreational vehicles, and the first thing worth knowing about it is how it lifts. There is no pump and no hydraulic ram. A threaded spindle drives the scissor linkage, so the platform rises in fine increments and stays precisely where the handle left it. Rated at 1,100 lbs, it is sized for the everyday jobs that need a wheel off the floor: brake work, tire changes, chain and sprocket service, fork work and undercarriage inspection.

The second thing worth knowing is that Ranger built it to live in two places. It works on the shop floor under a bike on its own, and it also works on top of a full-size platform motorcycle lift, so a shop that already owns a table lift can use the RML-1100 to get a wheel clear of the table deck. That dual role is why a small screw jack earns bench space in a professional shop instead of living in a corner.

A screw drive instead of a hydraulic ram

A hydraulic jack holds a load with fluid pressure behind a seal. A screw jack holds it with metal threads. The practical differences show up in the parts of ownership nobody puts on a spec sheet. There are no seals to weep and nothing to bleed or top up, so a jack that sat all winter in an unheated garage behaves on the first turn exactly as it did on the last. The load cannot descend faster than the handle is turned, which changes the character of lowering a bike: it is a deliberate action rather than a valve being cracked open.

The trade is speed. A pump gets there faster. A spindle gets there predictably, and on a motorcycle — where a couple of inches of travel is often the whole job and the load is narrow and top-heavy — predictable is worth more than fast. The same mechanism is what allows small corrections: a quarter turn to seat the frame properly on both saddles, rather than a pumped stroke that overshoots.

Two adjustable saddle adapters, and why they are most of the job

The jack ships with two saddle adapters that can be repositioned to suit different frame widths and layouts. This is not a convenience feature; on a motorcycle it is the safety feature. A cruiser carries its frame rails further apart than a sportbike, a custom frame may put nothing useful where a factory bike has a rail, and the wrong contact point puts the weight of the machine onto an exhaust, an oil pan or a bracket that was never meant to carry it. Being able to slide the saddles to the structural points, on this particular bike, is what separates a jack that supports a motorcycle from one that dents it.

It also means one jack serves a mixed workload. A shop that sees cruisers on Monday and a dirt bike on Tuesday resets the saddles rather than buying a second tool.

Two measurements to confirm before you order

Published height and platform figures for this model differ by source. Both sets are below, each attributed to where it comes from.

Figure Product listing copy Ranger specification sheet
Lowered height 6.5" 3.5" (90 mm)
Raised height 19.5" with the saddle adapters fitted 16" (405 mm)
Platform / top size about 11" by 22" 6" x 17.75" (150 mm x 450 mm)

The difference is wide enough to change the answer on a low bike, so settle the figure that applies to yours first. If clearance under a low cruiser, or whether the top spans two frame points on your machine, decides your purchase, confirm the current factory figures with us in writing before you order — we will get them straight from Ranger. Capacity, weights and carton size read the same across both sources.

What is your responsibility either way: the floor. Use the jack on a flat, level surface capable of carrying the whole weight of the machine plus the jack, centre the load before you lift, and check that nothing is under the base. And treat it as service equipment, not a support device: it raises and holds a bike for work on the machine, and it is not a substitute for stands when a person is underneath a load.

Perfect for

  • Home garages — one jack that covers wheels-off work on the bike you own, without a compressor or a lift.
  • Motorcycle and powersports shops — floor use for quick jobs, deck use on the platform lift for longer ones.
  • ATV and small recreational vehicle service, where the frame points are unusual and repositionable saddles matter.
  • Mobile and event work — at 30 lbs boxed it travels in a van or a trailer and needs no power at the far end.

What is in the box

The manufacturer's feature list for the RML-1100 states the jack and two adjustable saddle adapters. It does not itemise anything further, so we are not going to imply extra hardware, wheels or a pad kit that the data does not name. If you need a specific adapter or a spare, ask us and we will check availability against Ranger's current parts list.

Certification, stated plainly

The product data we hold for this jack claims no independent safety listing, and we are not going to imply one on its behalf. It is worth understanding the distinction, because it catches people out: a listing issued by an independent North American test house is a document produced after a third party has tested the equipment, and it is not the same thing as a manufacturer stating that its own product meets a standard. Some insurers, some fleet policies and some local jurisdictions ask specifically for the former. If yours does, establish what the paperwork actually requires before you buy, and ask us — we would rather answer that question now than after delivery.

Shipping and delivery

We ship within the contiguous United States, the lower 48. Boxed at 30 lbs this is a small, dense carton rather than a palletised freight shipment, but the method and the cost are worked out live at checkout for your address instead of being promised here. If it does arrive by freight, look at the carton before you sign for it and write any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is still there — a signature on a clean bill of lading is very hard to walk back afterwards. Delivery to a home address is a different service from delivery to a commercial dock and carries a residential fee where it applies. Warehouse collection is available; the pick-up locations are listed further down this page.

Warranty

Ranger publishes a single warranty document covering its product line, and that document is what governs this jack. We are not going to paraphrase a term length here, because the data we hold links the document rather than stating the terms — ask us for the current copy before you order if the coverage matters to your decision. One thing that applies whatever the terms say: do not dismantle, re-weld or modify the spindle, the linkage or the saddles before making a claim. Taking a load-bearing tool apart normally ends the coverage and, more to the point, it destroys the evidence of what actually failed.
