Triumph NTO-9AE: 9,000 lbs on an ordinary 110V supply

The hidden cost of most heavy two-post lifts is the electrician. A high-voltage circuit run to the right point in the bay, on a building you may be renting, is a real bill and a real delay between the crate arriving and the lift being usable. The NTO-9AE avoids the whole conversation: it is rated at 9,000 lbs and it runs on standard 110V power with a 2 HP unit. If your building has a socket, it has everything the lift needs.

The second thing worth knowing is at the other end of the operation. Minimum pad height is 3.5 inches, which is low even by the standards of lifts that advertise low-profile access, and it is the figure that decides whether a lowered car goes over the arms or gets its splitter rearranged. Combined with a lifting height of 72 inches, this is a lift that takes a wide range of vehicles from very low to comfortably high.

Will It Fit?

Take a tape into the bay before you order. These are Triumph's figures and verifying them against your own building is your responsibility.

• Concrete. A 4-inch slab at 3,000 PSI. This is the requirement to confirm first, because it is the one you cannot fix on delivery day. If you do not know what your floor is, have it checked before the lift ships.
• Floor width. 109 inches — 9 ft — between the posts, with 92 inches, or 7.5 ft, of drive-through clearance between the carriages. Add room to open a door on at least one side.
• Working height. 72 inches at the pads, which is 6 ft, with 68 inches of rise under the arms.
• Loading. Minimum pad height is 3.5 inches, and the arms sit at 4-1/2 inches lowered.
• Power. 110V, 2 HP. This is the point of the lift — no circuit to run, no electrician to schedule.
• Ceiling. Take the overall height from Triumph's spec sheet for this model, linked on this page, and measure against it. The figure appears twice in our own product data with two different values, so rather than print the flattering one we would rather you worked from the manufacturer's document. Ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.

Dual-point lock release, and why it is a real difference

The NTO-9AE uses a dual-point lock release: each column has its own release rather than sharing a single lever. It is worth understanding what that means day to day rather than treating it as better or worse in the abstract. Lowering the lift is a two-station operation, so it takes a few seconds longer and it requires the operator to be deliberate about it — which some shops regard as a feature on a lift used by more than one person, because a lock cannot be released by somebody who is not looking at that column. An electric safety cutoff backs it up on carriage travel.

Lift time is about fifty seconds for a full raise. On a lift cycling all day that is a number worth knowing; on a home lift it is irrelevant, and we would rather state it than let you find it out.

Overhead style, clear floor, and a base plate that does the work

This is an overhead-style lift, so the beam runs across the top and the floor between the columns is clear — a transmission jack, an oil drain and a creeper all roll straight through with nothing to lift them over. The crossbar carries the hydraulic lines and the equalisation cables above head height rather than across the floor, where they are stood on and eventually damaged.

Each column anchors through a base plate of 18 x 14 inches, and the whole lift ships at 1,407 lbs. That shipping weight is a genuine specification rather than a logistics footnote: it tells you how much steel is in the columns and carriages holding a 9,000 lb rating, and it tells you that unloading needs real equipment rather than enthusiasm.

Some commercial insurance policies, some fleet and municipal maintenance contracts, and some local building or fire code officials specifically require that shop lifting equipment carry an independent safety listing. Most home garages and a great many independent shops are under no such requirement at all. Two practical points decide whether the delivery day is uneventful. The first is unloading: somebody at the receiving end has to get the crate off the back of the truck. A forklift, a tractor with forks, or a telehandler will do it. If none of that is available to you, choose warehouse pickup instead and collect the crate on a trailer, because the freight terminal has the equipment to load you. The second is the address type. A delivery to a home is handled differently from a delivery to a commercial address and carries a residential fee, so tell us which one it is when you order rather than sorting it out on the doorstep.

Inspect the shipment before you sign for it. Walk the crate, look for punctures, crushed corners and shifted banding, and write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived intact, and it is very hard to argue with afterwards. Photographs taken at the tailgate are worth far more than photographs taken in the garage an hour later.

Warranty and claims

Triumph publishes its warranty terms in its own documentation rather than in this listing, and we would rather send you the current document than paraphrase a term that may since have changed. One rule matters more than the wording of the terms. If something fails, do not take it apart. Disassembling a component before the manufacturer has had the chance to inspect it is the most common reason a legitimate claim gets refused, because once it is in pieces nobody can establish what actually happened.
