Triumph NTO-20S: the slab decides this one, not the capacity

A 20,000 lb two-post lift is usually sold on the capacity figure, and the capacity is almost never what stops the sale. What stops it is the floor. The NTO-20S requires a 6″ concrete slab at a minimum of 4,000 PSI, which is a materially heavier requirement than the four-inch, three-thousand-PSI floor most two-post lifts are anchored into. If your slab does not meet it, no amount of lift is going to fix that, and finding out after the crate arrives is an expensive week. So this page leads with the foundation and works outward from there.

The rest of it is a clear-floor overhead lift built for the heavy end of the trade: 20,000 lbs of capacity, dual direct-drive cylinders, a single-point lock release, an electrical override automatic safety shut-off, and truck adapters plus mounting hardware included free rather than sold as an accessory pack afterwards.

Will It Fit?

Measure before you order. Confirming the building and the floor are suitable is the buyer's responsibility, and every figure below is one you can check yourself with a tape and a copy of your slab detail.

• Concrete. A 6″ slab with a minimum strength of 4,000 PSI. This is the single item most likely to disqualify a building. If you do not have the pour records, a core sample is cheaper than a failed anchor.
• Ceiling. This is an overhead-style lift, so the overhead beam is part of the structure and the machine stands 170-1/2″ tall. Your ceiling has to clear the top of the lift, not just the top of the vehicle, and anything mounted to the ceiling — lights, heaters, doors on tracks — has to clear it too.
• Floor width. 155″ overall across the two columns. Then add working room outside each post; a lift that only just fits between two walls is a lift you cannot walk around.
• Between the posts and through them. 124″ between the columns, with a drive-through width of 113″. The drive-through figure is the one that decides whether a wide commercial body clears the carriages on the way in.
• Power. 220 Volt feeding a 3 HP motor. Book the electrician before delivery.
• Lowered height. 6″ at the pads, which sets how low a chassis can sit and still be picked up.

Why the direct-drive cylinders matter on a truck

This lift uses dual hydraulic cylinders driving the carriages directly. On a passenger car the difference is barely visible. On a loaded truck it is the whole point: a work truck carries its mass unevenly, with a service body, a crane, a tank or a tool load pushing the centre of gravity well off the middle of the wheelbase. Two cylinders working together keep the two carriages travelling in step under that uneven load instead of one side leading and the vehicle taking up a lean as it rises. A vehicle that comes up level is a vehicle that stays where the technician put it while somebody works underneath it, and that is a safety property before it is a convenience.

Maximum rise at the pads is 74″, with a maximum rise under the arms of 68″. Those are two different measurements and both are useful: the first tells you how high the vehicle goes, the second tells you what headroom you actually have to stand and work in beneath the arm structure.

Clear floor, single-point release, electrical cutoff

Clear-floor construction means there is no baseplate running across the bay between the columns. That is what makes a floor jack, a transmission jack, a creeper or a drain pan move freely from one side of the vehicle to the other, and on a heavy truck — where the equipment coming under the vehicle is itself large — it is worth more than it is on a car.

Lowering is a single-point lock release: one control frees the locks on both columns together, instead of the technician walking the lift and releasing each column in turn. A lift that is awkward to lower gets lowered carelessly, and a 20,000 lb lift is not a good place to learn that lesson. The electrical override automatic safety shut-off stops travel at the top of the stroke, so a distracted operator holding the button does not drive the carriages into the end of their run. A full raise takes 40 seconds.

Certification, stated plainly

This model is described by the manufacturer as ISO 9001 and CE certified or compliant, and that is worth reading precisely rather than as a badge. ISO 9001 is a quality-management standard: it says something about how the factory is run and its records are kept, not about how this lift performs under load. The CE marking is a manufacturer's declaration against European directives — the builder declaring its own conformity. Neither of those is the same document as an independent North American third-party lift safety listing, and neither substitutes for one. If your insurer, your fleet policy or your local code requires that kind of listing on a lift, verify the requirement before you buy and ask us what documentation ships with the unit. We would rather answer that question now than have it answered by an inspector.

Shipping and delivery

This lift moves by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout for your address, so what you see is a current carrier rate rather than a stale estimate. The crate is heavy and unloading it is the receiver's responsibility, so you need a forklift, a dock or a machine capable of taking it off the trailer. Where that is not realistic, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually the easier route because the terminal already has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Inspect the shipment before you sign. Look for bent column edges, crushed corners, shifted banding and oil, write anything you find onto the bill of lading while the driver is still standing there, and photograph it. A clean signed bill of lading is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived intact, and reversing it afterwards is difficult.
