Triumph NT-15: 15,000 lbs in a bay with an ordinary roof

Most two-post lifts at this capacity are overhead-beam machines standing thirteen or fourteen feet tall, and for a great many buildings that ends the conversation before the specification is read. The NT-15 stands 120″ overall. That single figure is the reason this model exists on the page next to its taller siblings: it puts 15,000 lbs of lifting capacity into a bay whose ceiling was never going to take an overhead lift, and it does it without cutting the capacity down to a car-shop machine.

It is a symmetric, clear-floor design with dual hydraulic cylinders and multiple lock positions, running on 220V AC through a 3HP motor, and it ships with truck adapters rather than selling them afterwards.

What the height figure actually buys

Ceiling height is the most common reason a lift purchase falls through, and it is almost never the vehicle that causes the problem — it is the lift. At 120″ overall the NT-15 fits under structure that would not clear a tall overhead machine at all, and it leaves room for the things that live on a garage ceiling: lighting, a unit heater, a sectional door and its track, sprinkler runs, a mezzanine edge.

Be honest with yourself about the second measurement, though. The lift fitting is necessary but not sufficient; the vehicle on it has to fit too. Take the tallest thing you intend to lift, add the height you want it raised to, and check that against your own roof before you order. That check is the buyer's responsibility and it takes five minutes with a tape.

Will It Fit?

• Ceiling. 120″ to the top of the lift, plus whatever the vehicle needs above it.
• Width across the bay. 142″ overall. Add walking and working space outside both columns.
• Between the posts. 114″, with a drive-through width of 100″. The second figure is the one to check against the widest body you expect to bring in.
• Low vehicles. Lowered height is 7″, which sets how low a chassis can sit and still be picked up.
• Power. 220V AC feeding a 3HP motor. Get the circuit run before the delivery date, not after.
• Concrete. Triumph states the concrete requirement for this lift as PSI 3,000. Thickness is not given in the data we hold for this model, and we are not going to guess at it — ask us for the current spec sheet and read the foundation requirement before the lift is on a truck. If you do not have pour records for the bay, a core sample is cheaper than a failed anchor.

Symmetric arms, and what that means when you open a door

This is a symmetric lift: the arms are the same length front and rear, and the vehicle sits centred between the columns. That geometry puts the load squarely between the posts, which is what you want under a heavy, evenly loaded vehicle — a van, a crew cab, a box body — because the weight is shared between the two columns rather than biased toward one end of the arms.

The trade-off is worth knowing rather than discovering. With the vehicle centred, the doors open closer to the columns than they would on an asymmetric layout. For truck and commercial work, where the operator is usually going under the vehicle rather than sitting in it, that is a good trade. If your bay is mostly passenger cars that get driven on and off all day, think about it before you order and talk to us.

Cylinders, locks and a forty-second cycle

Dual hydraulic cylinders drive the two carriages together. Under a work truck — where a service body, a tank or a tool load pushes the centre of gravity well away from the middle of the wheelbase — that is what keeps the two sides travelling in step rather than one leading and the vehicle taking up a lean on the way up. A vehicle that arrives level stays where it was put while somebody works underneath it.

Automatic safety locks hold the vehicle at multiple heights so the load rests on steel rather than on hydraulic pressure. Raising takes 40 seconds, and lifting height is 72″ at the top of the pads. Base plates measure 20x20″, and the lift is anchored through those plates into the slab.

Certification, stated plainly

We do not list an independent third-party lift safety listing for this model, and we are not going to imply one by writing an acronym this product's own data never claims. It is a distinction worth getting straight before you order rather than afterwards: a manufacturer's declaration of conformity is the builder making a statement about its own product, while an independent listing means an outside organisation tested the lift and audits the plant that builds it. Those are different documents and neither is a substitute for the other. Some commercial insurance policies, fleet safety programmes and local jurisdictions specifically require the second kind on shop lifts. If any of those apply to you, verify the requirement first, and ask us what documentation ships with the unit.

Shipping and delivery

The lift ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout for the address you enter, so what you see is a current carrier rate rather than an old figure baked into a page. Getting a 2,000 lb crate off the trailer falls to the receiver, which in practice means a forklift, a dock or a machine capable of taking it. If the delivery address has none of those, arranging collection from the carrier's local terminal is normally the easier answer, since the terminal is already set up for it. Selecting a residential delivery adds a residential fee at checkout.

Inspect first, sign second. Bent column edges, crushed corners, broken banding and oil are what to look for; write anything you find onto the bill of lading while the driver is still on site, and take photographs. Once a clean bill of lading is signed, the carrier has documented evidence that the shipment arrived intact, and reversing that after the fact seldom succeeds.

One rule holds for any hydraulic lift regardless of manufacturer: if something fails, do not take the power unit, a cylinder or a lock mechanism apart before a claim has been opened. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified component, and that is the quickest way to forfeit cover that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, record the serial number, and call before you start dismantling anything.
