Triumph NSS-11-1: the four-post that can get the wheels off the ground

The standing objection to a four-post lift is that the vehicle sits on its own tires, so brake, suspension, hub and wheel work all need something else. This version answers it in the crate. The NSS-11-1 Truck Combo ships with two RJ-5 rolling bridge jacks, which sit across the runways and lift the axle clear of the deck. That single inclusion is what turns a storage-and-service deck into a bay that can do a brake job, and it is the reason to choose this configuration over a plain four-post.

Underneath the combo it is an 11,000 lb drive-on lift running on ordinary 110 Volt power, with eleven locking positions, a single-point release and a full raise in 40 seconds. No dedicated circuit, no electrician booked before delivery, no three-phase supply to find.

Included while supplies last: a Chicago Pneumatic CP WallAIR 1.5-HP wall-mount air compressor with hose reel and inflation kit. The option to add it appears at checkout.

What the RJ-5 jacks actually change

A rolling bridge jack rolls along the top of the runways, positions under a lift point on the vehicle, and raises it off the deck. With two of them you can lift an axle at a time, or the whole vehicle, while the four-post carries the load and the locks carry the vehicle. Practically that means wheels off, rotors off, calipers out, springs and dampers accessible, and a wheel alignment or a tire rotation done on the same lift you park on.

The alternative — a floor jack worked under a vehicle that is already up on runways — is awkward, needs a jack tall enough to reach, and puts the operator in a worse position. Two jacks supplied with the lift is a specification difference, not a marketing one: on most four-posts they are an accessory line item you discover after the lift is bolted down.

Will It Fit?

A four-post is delivered whether or not the building suits it, so measure first. Checking the space and the floor is the buyer's responsibility, and these are the numbers to check against.

  • Floor length. 216″ overall without the approach ramps. The ramps then need somewhere to live, on the lift or beside it, so plan for more than the bare figure.
  • Floor width. 130″ overall. Add door-opening room on at least one side, or you will be climbing out through the passenger seat for the life of the lift.
  • Ceiling. The lift stands 97″ at the top of the columns. If you are stacking one vehicle over another, the deciding figure is the height of the lower vehicle plus the runway above it plus the vehicle on top — measure your own cars against your own ceiling rather than working from the capacity.
  • Getting a vehicle between the posts. Drive-through width is 118″.
  • Track width. Runways are 19.5″ wide and set at either 39″ or 44.5″ apart. Check a narrow-track vehicle and a wide one against those two settings before ordering.
  • Power. 110 Volt, which is the point of it.
  • Foundation. Triumph's own manual and spec sheet are the authority on the slab and the anchoring for this lift. Ask us for the current copies and read the foundation requirement before delivery rather than after.

Eleven locks and a single release

Each column carries 11 locking positions, so a raised vehicle rests on steel at whatever working height suits the job rather than on hydraulic pressure. That is what makes a four-post safe to leave loaded for weeks at a time, which matters here because this lift is bought as much for storage as for service.

Lowering is a single-point release: one control drops all four locks together instead of the technician walking the lift and freeing each column in turn. A lift that is awkward to lower is a lift that gets lowered carelessly, and with two rolling jacks and possibly a second vehicle involved, that is worth paying attention to. Lowered height is 5″ at the deck, which with the approach ramps is what lets a low-fronted vehicle load without a run-up.

Working height, and the number people read wrong

Two different height figures matter and they are not interchangeable. Lift height at the top of the runway is 86.5″ — that is how high the vehicle goes. Height under the runway is 81″ — that is the headroom you actually stand in when working underneath, and it is the one to compare against your own height. The runways themselves are 196″ long, which is what sets the vehicle length the deck will properly support rather than overhang.

Perfect For

  • Truck and SUV owners who want a lift that services the vehicle as well as parking it.
  • Home garages doubling their floor, storing one vehicle above another and still able to do brake work.
  • Professional shops wanting a drive-on bay that runs on 110V and does not need a supply upgrade first.
  • Detailers and restorers, where drive-on access, wheels-off capability and drip protection all matter in the same bay.

What's in the Box

  • Two RJ-5 rolling bridge jacks, for wheels-free service on the runways
  • Caster kit, for repositioning the lift
  • Jack tray
  • Six drip trays
  • Drive-on approach ramps

Jacks, jack tray and drip trays are the three items most often bought separately on a four-post, which is worth remembering when comparing this against a bare deck.

Certification, stated plainly

We do not list a third-party lift safety listing for this model, and we are not going to imply one by writing an acronym the product data does not claim. The distinction is worth understanding before you order: a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is a statement the builder makes about its own product, while an independent listing means an outside body has tested the lift and audits the factory that builds it. They are different documents and one does not stand in for the other. If your insurer, your employer or your local authority requires a lift to carry a specific named listing — and some commercial policies, fleet operations and jurisdictions do — confirm that requirement before you order rather than after the crate is on the driveway. Ask us and we will tell you what we know and what we do not.

Shipping and delivery

This lift moves by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout for your address, so the figure you see is a current carrier rate rather than an estimate that has gone stale. At 2,400 lbs crated, unloading is the receiver's responsibility — you need a forklift, a machine, or several people and a plan. If that is not realistic, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually easier, because the terminal has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Inspect the shipment before you sign for it. Look for bent runway edges, crushed corners, shifted banding and oil, write anything you find onto the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signed bill of lading is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived intact, and reversing it afterwards is difficult.

Warranty

Triumph publishes a written warranty covering this lift — see our warranty claims page, and ask us for the current terms before ordering if they are part of your decision. One warning applies to every hydraulic lift regardless of who built it: if something fails, do not take the power unit, a cylinder, a rolling jack or a lock mechanism apart before a claim has been opened. A disassembled part is generally treated as a modified part, and that is the quickest way to lose cover that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call first.
