Katool KT-H120D: a 12,000 lb two-post lift you unlock from one side

Most two-post lifts make you walk. The safety locks are mechanical and there is a release on each column, so lowering a vehicle means freeing one lock, crossing the bay and freeing the other. The KT-H120D is built around a single-point manual safety lock release: one lever, on one column, unlocks both. That is the feature the model name is advertising, and on a bay that cycles vehicles all day it is worth more to a technician than another notch of capacity.

Everything else is heavy-duty two-post hardware sized for work trucks. The rating is 12,000 lbs (5,500 kg), the arms are symmetric, the frame is a base-plate design with the hydraulic crossover running along the floor rather than over your head, and each column carries its own hydraulic chain-drive cylinder fed by a 4.0 HP power unit. It suits an independent shop that has outgrown a light-duty lift, a fleet or municipal bay, and any garage where the ceiling is a hard limit.

Will It Fit?

Five measurements decide that, and every one of them is yours to check before the truck arrives. We cannot see your building, your slab or your panel.

• Ceiling. The columns stand 110.94 in (2,818 mm). Because there is no overhead beam, the roof only has to clear the columns and whatever you drive under them. The lift itself raises to 74.8 in (1,900 mm) at the top of the pad, which works out to 71 in of rise measured under the arms.
• Floor width. Overall width is 140 in (3,555 mm). The columns sit 124.8 in apart on their outside faces and 110 in to 110.25 in apart on the inside. Add working room on both sides, or you own a lift you cannot walk around.
• Getting under a low car. Katool's two published figures for the lowest arm position do not agree: the description says the arms retract to 4.25 in (110 mm), while the product's minimum-pad-height field says 4 in. We print both rather than quietly choose the one that reads better. If a low-clearance vehicle is part of why you are buying, ask us to confirm it against the manual before you order.
• Drive-through. 98.43 in (2,500 mm) between the columns. This is the number that stops a wide dually, not the capacity.
• Concrete. A minimum of 5.9 in (150 mm) of slab at a compressive strength of at least 3,000 PSI, level and unbroken across the whole anchor pattern. No expansion joint, no crack, no patched section under a column. Verifying this is the customer's responsibility, and an unknown slab is the most common reason an installation stops on the day. If nobody can tell you what was poured, core it before you order.
• Power. A 4.0 HP unit on single-phase 220V, 60 Hz. That is a dedicated circuit, not a shared garage outlet, and it needs to exist before delivery day.

What the single-point release actually changes

Mechanical locks are what hold a raised vehicle. Hydraulics raise it; steel keeps it there, and the locks click into the column ladders every few inches on the way up. The consequence is that every descent begins with someone releasing those locks, and a two-lever lift means one person crossing the bay twice or two people coordinating.

On the KT-H120D the release is ganged, so the operator stands at one column, watches the vehicle and the arms from a single position, and brings both carriages off the locks together. It is a workflow feature rather than a strength feature, and it is the honest reason to choose this model over a cheaper two-lever lift.

Two cylinders, and why they matter more on a truck

Each column has its own hydraulic chain-drive cylinder rather than one cylinder dragging both sides through a linkage. Working from one power unit, the pair keeps the carriages tracking together, so the vehicle comes up level instead of one corner leading. On a pickup with a heavy engine forward and an empty bed, that difference is absorbed either by the structure or by the arms and pads. Level lifting is what keeps it in the structure, where it belongs.

The columns also carry rubber door-opening protection, so a door swung open at working height meets rubber rather than painted steel, and the base-plate layout means the crossover pipe is on the floor in a low plate instead of in a beam that limits vehicle height.

Arms, pads and adaptors

Reach, not capacity, decides whether an awkward vehicle can be picked up at its proper lift points. The symmetric arms extend in stages, with front arm reach running out to 43.11 in and rear arm reach out to 54.13 in, which is what lets you set the pads on a long-wheelbase truck without stretching a short arm past its rating. Pads screw on, and extension support adaptors add 100 mm of pad height for a body with high pinch welds or a deep rocker.

Certification, stated plainly

Katool's published data for this model does not name any third-party safety listing, and we will not imply one it does not claim. That matters to a specific group of buyers rather than to everyone: some commercial insurance policies, some fleet and municipal operations and some local jurisdictions name a particular North American lift safety listing in their requirements, and a lift without it will not satisfy them however well built it is. For a private garage and for many independent shops the question never comes up. Find out which of those you are before you order, not after the anchors are in the floor.

Shipping and delivery

This lift ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, and your freight cost is quoted live at checkout against the address you enter rather than estimated in advance. Note what a freight delivery is: the driver brings the crate on a standard trailer and getting it to the ground is the receiver's job, usually with a forklift or a telehandler. If you do not have one, choose terminal pickup, because the terminal has the equipment. A residential delivery carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select that option.

Before you sign, walk the crate: crushed corners, torn shrink, shifted banding, gouges, oil on the deck. Write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is standing there, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's proof that the shipment arrived undamaged, and reversing it afterwards is very hard.

Warranty

Katool publishes a written warranty document for this equipment; ask us for the current copy before you buy if the exact terms will decide your purchase. One warning applies to every hydraulic lift regardless of brand: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or a lock assembly before a claim is raised. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the fastest way to lose coverage that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, note the serial number from the column, and call before you reach for a spanner.
