-Description
-iDEAL MSC-18K-X-472 Mobile Column Lift - Set of Four
Every column in this set locks by itself and stops by itself. There is an independent mechanical locking system per column and an emergency switch per column, which means the thing holding a 72,000 lb vehicle at height is steel engaging steel — four times over, independently — and the person who spots a problem is never more than one column away from a stop button. On a mobile lift that is the specification to read first, because a mobile column set has no fixed structure, no anchors and no in-ground cylinder to fall back on. What it has is its own locks.
The MSC-18K-X-472 is the four-column configuration: enough to pick up a single truck, bus or heavy chassis by its wheels, on any suitable slab, with nothing installed and nothing cut.
Locks, stops and synchronisation, in that order
Hydraulics raise a vehicle; mechanical locks hold it. That distinction is the reason experienced technicians ask about the locking system before they ask about capacity. On this set each column carries its own mechanical lock, engaging independently of the others, so the load is not resting on hydraulic pressure while anyone is underneath.
The emergency switch on each column follows the same logic. A four-column set spans the length of a truck, and a technician at the rear who sees something wrong at the front should not have to run to a central panel to act on it. Every column is a stop.
Keeping four columns rising together is a PLC and optical encoder job — measuring position continuously and correcting, rather than starting four hydraulic circuits and trusting them to behave identically. Four columns under one rigid chassis will always want to drift apart; the encoder is what stops that drift from becoming a racked vehicle. The master control panel drives the set individually or in synchronised pairs, and its LCD screen with keypad shows the actual lifting height rather than an estimate.
Will It Fit?
- Ceiling clearance. Columns are 88.6" collapsed and 155.5" fully extended. The extended figure plus the height of the vehicle sitting on the forks is what has to clear your lowest obstruction — ductwork and lighting, not the roof.
- Working height. 67.1" of lift at the forks.
- Slab. Minimum concrete surface strength 3000 PSI. Nothing is anchored, but four columns put concentrated point loads into the floor and a marginal slab stays marginal.
- Spacing. Up to 32'8" between columns, with each column 44.1" wide overall — the set adapts to the wheelbase in front of it rather than the other way round.
- Tyres. Forks adjust from 12.6" to 22", are 17.9" long, and sit 10" clear of the column. Measure the wheels you actually service; this is the specification that most often rules a set in or out.
- Electrical. 100-140VAC, 60Hz, 1 PH per column to charge, 24VDC to run. Single-phase, which is why this set goes into buildings that could never host a three-phase installation.
- Environment. Specified for indoor set-up and operation.
These checks are yours to make against your own building before you order. Ask us if anything is borderline — a marginal ceiling is much cheaper to discover now.
Cordless is an operational decision, not a convenience
The columns run on 24VDC battery power with onboard charging. No trailing power leads means no cable routed across a bay a driver has to cross, no isolation to arrange, and no fixed position — the set works wherever there is suitable floor. It also means the lift has an energy budget: batteries charge between jobs, and the charging plan is part of owning the equipment rather than an afterthought.
Between jobs the columns roll away on poly caster wheels, repositioned with a pallet-jack type device, and the bay reverts to open floor. For a shop with more vehicles than bays, that recovered space is often the reason the set was bought.
Rated noise level is 70 dB(A) — there is no power unit running continuously in the corner, because the pump only works while the lift is moving.
Perfect For
- Single-vehicle heavy service — one truck, bus or RV at a time, lifted by the wheels.
- Shops in leased buildings where anchoring or excavating is not permitted.
- Fleet garages growing into heavy work that need capacity now and the option of adding columns later; the platform is offered in two, four and six column configurations.
- Mobile and contract maintenance operations that move equipment between sites.
- Multi-use buildings where the same floor has to be a lift bay in the morning and something else in the afternoon.
What's in the Box, and what is not
Four columns with onboard charging systems, communication cabling on retractable cable reels in the U-shape configuration, the master control panel with LCD and keypad, adjustable lifting forks, and an LED light with a magnetic base.
Batteries are not supplied. The specification calls for 12VDC sealed deep cycle batteries, BCI Group 31, AH-105. How many each column takes is not stated anywhere in our data, and on a four-column set that number materially changes your commissioning cost. Get it from us in writing before you order.

| Ship weight | 1,584 lbs per column, per the iDEAL specification sheet. Our catalogue holds the same figure without the per-column qualifier - confirm the crated total with us in writing, see below. |
The shipping weight on this model needs confirming, and we would rather say so
There are two readings of this set's weight in circulation. The iDEAL specification sheet gives the ship weight per column. Our own catalogue field carries the identical number with the per-column qualifier missing, which on a four-column set understates the total by a factor of four. We know about it, we are telling you rather than quietly picking the friendlier number, and we are not going to publish a total we have not verified.
What that means for you in practice: ask us to confirm the crated weight and piece count in writing before you arrange delivery or hire lifting equipment. It decides whether a pallet jack is adequate or you need a forklift, and it is the difference between a delivery that takes twenty minutes and one that gets refused at the kerb.
Certification, described rather than badged
This product's own data carries exactly one certification reference, and it belongs to optional MSC accessories described as ALI certified — items sold separately from the columns. It is not a certification statement about this lift, and presenting it as one would be misleading.
If your insurer, your fleet safety policy or your local jurisdiction requires lifting equipment to hold a North American third-party safety listing — an independent body's testing and listing, as distinct from a manufacturer's own declaration — that requirement is real and it is worth settling before the money moves. Ask us in writing for the current certification documentation covering this exact model, and we will send you what exists rather than leaving you to read it off a badge.
Shipping and Delivery
Freight to the lower 48, quoted live at checkout against your own address; we publish no figure here because carrier pricing moves and a stale number turns into a dispute. Warehouse pickup is available from our Valor, Tuxedo and iDeal locations if you would rather collect.
You need to be able to unload at your address or take terminal pickup instead — and see the weight note above before you decide which. Inspect every crate before signing, and write any damage onto the delivery receipt while the driver is still there. Damage recorded at delivery is a freight claim; damage reported afterwards rarely is.
Warranty
No warranty term is published on this listing, so we will not state one. Ask us for the current written terms — structure and parts are commonly covered on different periods, and on equipment at this price the document belongs in your file before you order rather than after something goes wrong. The claims process is on our warranty claims page. If a fault appears, stop using the set and open the claim before anyone dismantles a column or a control panel.
