Challenger E15: the 2-foot column extension is standard equipment, not an upcharge

On most two-post lifts a taller column is an option you buy, a part number you have to remember at order time, and a decision you cannot revisit once the columns are anchored. The E15 ships with a 2-foot column height extension included, so the same crate gives an overall column height of either 174″ or 198″ depending on how you build it. It is a 15,000 lbs symmetric lift for general repair shops, fleet garages and commercial maintenance bays — places where the vehicle mix is genuinely mixed, and where the tallest thing you service is not the thing you service most often.

Why a height decision you can defer is worth money

Column height is the one specification on a two-post lift that is effectively permanent. The anchors go into the slab, the beam is squared to the columns, and changing your mind afterwards means pulling the lift. Buyers get this wrong in both directions: order short and a high-roof van will not go up; order tall and you lose headroom on the beam side of the bay.

Because the extension is in the box, the E15 lets you make that call with a tape measure in your own building rather than from a spec sheet weeks earlier. Build it low and the ceiling requirement is 14' 7″; build it tall and it is 16' 7″. Both are manufacturer minimums, measured to the lowest obstruction over the bay rather than to the roof deck.

Will It Fit?

Measure your own bay against these before you order. The measuring is your responsibility — we cannot see your building, your joists, your door track or your slab, and a lift that does not fit is not a warranty matter.

• Ceiling. 14' 7″ minimum in the standard build, 16' 7″ with the extension fitted. Measure to the lowest thing over the bay: lights, ducting, a sectional door track, a sprinkler run.
• Overhead shut-off. Floor to overhead switch is 13' 10″ standard or 15' 10″ extended — the height at which a tall vehicle trips the padded shut-off, and therefore what really decides which vehicles you can raise fully.
• Drive-through. 9' 1.375″ of clearance between the columns. Check it against the widest vehicle you regularly pull through, mirror to mirror, not against your average one.
• Rise. 6' 5.75″ to the top of the pad, quoted elsewhere in the data as 6.5 ft — the same measurement rounded. Maximum rise under the arms is 72″, which is the figure that matters if you plan to stand under the vehicle rather than beside it.
• Power. A 2HP motor on 208v–230v. Have the circuit run and terminated by an electrician before the lift is stood up, not after.
• Concrete. The slab specification is in the installation manual and it is not optional reading — a two-post puts the whole load into two anchor patterns. Never anchor on a crack, a patch or across an expansion joint, and if nobody knows what the floor is made of, core it before the crate arrives.

The lock release that came down from the CL Series

The E15 uses a jacketed, pulley-less single-point mechanical lock release — a system Challenger developed for its CL Series, appearing here on a lift positioned well below that line.

What it buys the technician is simple. A single-point release frees the locks in both columns from one handle, so nobody walks around a loaded vehicle to release the far column and the two sides cannot go out of step. Jacketing the linkage keeps grit off it, and taking the pulleys out removes the parts that wear and seize on a release used dozens of times a day. A lock release that has gone heavy is one people start leaving engaged badly — a safety problem long before it is a maintenance problem.

Two-stage arms, front and rear

Both front and rear arms are two-stage. On a symmetric lift the vehicle sits centred between the columns and all four arms reach roughly the same distance, so each arm's range decides whether you can place a pad properly on a short car and still reach the frame on a long van. Arm reach runs 36.5″ to 55″.

The heavy-duty polyurethane screw pads adjust from 5.25″ to 6.75″, so most vehicles come up without stacking adapters — and stack adapters are included for the ones that need them. Plated arm restraints and arm pins resist the rust that turns a restraint into a part nobody wants to touch, and dual integrated rubber door guards are standard on both columns.

Being straight about this is worth more than a tidy page. Our records carry the E15's overall width in two forms that do not reconcile, and one pad-height field falls outside the screw pad range quoted above. We will not guess, average them, or quietly pick the friendlier one — a number you plan a bay layout around has to be the number on the factory drawing. If overall width or minimum pad height matters to your install, message us and we will confirm both against the current sheet before you order.

Certification

The E15 carries ALI and ETL certification, and both marks are listed in this product's data. Worth knowing what that covers: those listings describe the lift as submitted and tested. They say nothing about your slab, your anchors, your supply or your installer. A certified lift on unsuitable concrete is an unsafe lift, and what your insurer or inspector actually asks for is the anchor pull-out and the installation record. If a specific listing is a condition of your policy, ask us for the current certificate rather than relying on a product page.

Shipping and delivery

This lift moves by freight, to the lower 48 states, at a rate quoted live at checkout for your address. Two things decide whether delivery goes smoothly. Unloading is yours: the driver brings it to you and no further, so you need a forklift, a dock, or an arrangement to collect from the carrier's terminal. And a residential address is a different service to a commercial one, carrying a residential fee. Warehouse pickup is available if you would rather collect.

Inspect before you sign. Walk the crate, look at the columns and the beam, and write any damage or shortage onto the delivery paperwork in the driver's presence. A signature on a clean bill of lading is very hard to argue with afterwards; a noted exception is straightforward.

Warranty

Challenger's warranty terms for this model are published on our warranty claims page, and we will confirm them in writing before you buy if you ask. One thing matters on every claim: do not disassemble a suspect component. Photograph it in place, stop using the lift, and contact us. A part taken apart before it was inspected is a part nobody can adjudicate, and that is the most common reason a legitimate claim stalls.
