Challenger CL10A-XP9: Versymmetric arms, so one lift does symmetric and asymmetric work in the same bay

Most two-post lifts make you choose. Symmetric puts the vehicle centred between the columns and suits trucks and vans; asymmetric rotates it back so the doors clear the columns and suits cars. Shops that see both usually end up compromising on one of them every day. Challenger's Versymmetric offset front arms are the answer to that: the same lift picks up either way, in the same bay, without reconfiguring anything.

Paired with three width settings chosen at installation and the directSPOT arm geometry that gets a pad to the vehicle's lift point without a fight, the CL10A-XP9 is aimed squarely at the shop whose next vehicle is genuinely unpredictable.

Before anything else: two things in our data disagree

We would rather lose the sale than have you plan around a number we are not sure of, so this goes near the top of the page instead of the bottom.

  • Capacity. The product title, the capacity field and the feature list all say 10,000 lbs. The detailed specification block stored against this model says 9,000 lbs. Those are not the same lift, and we are not going to pick the friendlier figure, average them, or quietly print one and hope.
  • Configuration. The same specification block describes a drive-on pad lift with no arms, which contradicts the title, the feature list and the Versymmetric arm geometry that gives this model its name. The block looks like it was copied from a drive-on sibling in the range.

Everything else on this page is drawn from fields that agree with each other. Before you order, message or call us and we will confirm the rated capacity and the arm configuration against Challenger's current factory sheet, in writing. That takes minutes and it removes the only real risk on this listing.

What Versymmetric actually does

The front arms are offset. Because they reach forward from the column rather than straight out, the vehicle can be spotted further back than a symmetric layout allows, which is what puts the doors clear of the columns on a car. Drive a truck on instead and the same arms will place it centred, so the load sits where a symmetric lift wants it.

The practical consequence is that a technician stops adapting the vehicle to the lift. A car gets its doors open properly; a van gets its weight balanced properly; neither of them needs the bay next door. Challenger's directSPOT naming describes the intent — getting the pad directly to the manufacturer's lift point rather than to the nearest place the arm happens to reach.

Three widths, chosen once

Overall width is adjustable from 11' 6.5″ to 12' 6.5″ across three settings, and the drive-through clearance follows it: 100″, 106″ or 112″ between the carriages depending on which you build. Wider suits big vehicles and comfortable door swing; narrower fits a tighter bay and keeps the arms reaching less. Pick against your building and your widest regular vehicle, because this is decided when the lift is anchored.

Height is adjustable at order time too. The standard build fits a 12' ceiling, with 2-foot and 3-foot column extensions offered if you have the roof for them.

Will It Fit?

Confirming that the lift suits your building is the customer's job and it is much cheaper done now. These are the figures to work from.

  • Ceiling. 12' for the standard column, measured to the lowest obstruction over the bay rather than the roof deck.
  • Overall height. 11' 2″ or 11' 8″ depending on build, reaching 11' 11″ with the cylinder fully extended.
  • Overhead switch. Between 10' 8.5″ and 11' 2.5″ from the floor — the height at which a tall vehicle meets the padded shut-off.
  • Width. 11' 6.5″ to 12' 6.5″ overall, roughly 10.15 ft between the columns, with 9.30 ft of drive-through at the widest setting.
  • Rise. 70″ to the top of the pad, and 6 ft to the top of the arms.
  • Power. 2HP on 208v–230v, 60Hz, single phase (1Ph), on its own circuit, in place before installation day.
  • Slab. The concrete specification is in the installation manual and it governs everything. Two columns put the whole load into two anchor patterns. Never anchor on a crack, a patch or across an expansion joint.

The hardware behind the arms

The carriage is a 48″ elongated design, which spreads the load down more of the column and slows the wear that eventually makes a carriage loose. The equalisation pulley is an oversized 5″ diameter running a heavy-duty 5/16″ cable — a larger radius means less fatigue in the cable each cycle, which is what keeps equalisation off the maintenance list.

The lock release is pulley-less, jacketed and single-point, so both columns release together from one handle and the linkage stays out of the dirt. Premium double telescoping screw pads adjust across enough range that most vehicles come up without stacking adapters at all. Plated arm restraints and arm pins resist rust, a fully gusseted base plate stiffens the column at the floor, and dual integrated rubber door guards are standard.

Perfect For

  • Independent repair shops with a genuinely mixed intake, where the next vehicle might be a hatchback or a three-quarter-ton pickup.
  • Single-bay operations that cannot dedicate one lift to cars and another to trucks.
  • Dealership service departments covering a model range that spans both lifting styles.
  • Shops still deciding their layout, since the width is chosen at installation rather than at the factory.

What's in the Box

  • Two columns with the overhead beam and padded overhead shut-off system
  • Versymmetric offset front arms with directSPOT geometry
  • Premium double telescoping screw pads
  • Plated arm restraints and arm pins
  • Pulley-less jacketed single-point lock release
  • Dual integrated rubber door guards
  • Premium powder coat finish in red, blue or black

Supplied by you: anchors and slab work, the electrical circuit, and any accessory — column extensions, rolling jacks, additional adapters. Ask before you order rather than after the lift is anchored.

Certification

Challenger's record for this model lists ALI and ETL certification, and both marks are carried in this product's data. Understand the scope: a listing describes the lift as submitted and tested by the laboratory. It says nothing about your slab, your anchors, your supply or your installer, and a certified lift anchored into unsuitable concrete is not a safe lift. If a named listing is a condition of your insurance, your lease or a fleet contract, ask us for the current certificate covering this exact model and revision — particularly given the specification discrepancy flagged above.

Shipping and delivery

Freight, lower 48 states, priced live at checkout against the address you enter. Unloading is the customer's responsibility: arrange a forklift or a dock, or collect from the carrier's terminal instead. Residential delivery is a distinct service and carries a residential fee. Warehouse pickup is available if you would rather collect the lift yourself.

Inspect the shipment before signing. Check the crated columns, the beam and the arm sets, count everything against the paperwork, and record any damage or shortage in front of the driver. A clean signature effectively ends a damage claim before it starts.

Warranty

Warranty terms for this lift are published on our warranty claims page, and we will confirm the current terms in writing on request. If a component fails, do not dismantle it. Photograph it in place, take the lift out of service, and contact us first. A part that has been taken apart before anyone inspected it is a part that cannot be adjudicated, and that is what sinks otherwise valid claims.
