Challenger 44018AR — an alignment lift that publishes its alignment window

Most heavy alignment lifts are sold on capacity. The 44018AR is worth buying on a different number: its published alignment range. Four-wheel alignment is rated from 98" to 206", and two-wheel alignment out to 220". That means you can check the lift against your own vehicle list before you spend anything, instead of finding out on the rack that a wheelbase falls outside what the geometry supports.

The second thing that sets it apart in this class is its power supply. It runs a 3 HP motor on 208 - 230V single phase. A shop that would need a three-phase service installed for a comparable heavy four-post can very often run this one on what it already has, and that saved electrical work is frequently larger than the price gap between lifts.

Work down that list against the vehicles you are contracted for. A chassis can sit safely on the runways and still fall outside the alignment window — those are two different questions and this lift answers both in public, which is unusual enough to be the reason to choose it.

Will it fit the bay?

The lift is 311.5" long and 141.5" wide overall, with 122" clear between the inside faces of the columns and 204" — 17 ft — from column to column along the bay. Height is the specification to check hardest: the columns stand 102.5", and the runway surface climbs to 83.375" at full rise. That is a genuinely high lift for its capacity, which is exactly what you want when the work is under a medium-duty chassis and exactly what will fight your ceiling if you have not measured to the lowest fixture rather than to the deck.

Slab depth, concrete strength, the anchor pattern and the electrical supply are the buyer's responsibility. An alignment lift adds one more: the floor needs to be flat and level to the manufacturer's tolerance, because alignment readings are taken from the lift, not from the floor. Have that assessed before installation rather than chasing it afterwards.

Adjustable runways — and the one trade-off

Runways are 22" wide, sit 11.875" off the floor, and their spacing adjusts from 36" to 54". That adjustment is what makes a single lift cover the range of tread widths found across medium-sized transit vehicles instead of being set up for one of them.

There is a real caveat and it deserves to be stated before you order rather than discovered afterwards: running rolling jacks requires the fixed-runway configuration at a specific spacing, which is given in Challenger's feature list further down this page. Adjustable runway width and rolling-jack capability are not both available on the same deck. Decide which capability your work actually needs, and if you are unsure, tell us what you service and we will work through it with you.

Getting the vehicle on and off

The approach ramps are diamond plate for traction and carry heavy-duty steel roller wheels, so repositioning them is a job one person does rather than a two-person lift. Small detail, felt several times a day.

Single-point air-actuated lock release is fitted on the alignment model and releases all four column locks together — worth having on any four-post, and worth more on one where the deck is routinely parked at a set height for measurement work.

Built-in runway rail system

The runways carry an integrated rail system, which is the feature that decides how the lift ages. Rolling jacks and an oil drain pan mount to it rather than being wedged on top of a plain deck, so the lift can be extended later without being modified. Those accessories are sold separately; the rail that accepts them is part of the lift.

Certification, described rather than badged

The product data we hold for the 44018AR does not state an independent third-party safety listing for this model, and we would rather say that than let a page imply otherwise. The difference is substantive: an independent listing means a testing body has examined the design and issued a document about it, which is not the same as a manufacturer's own conformity statement. Insurers, fleet safety auditors and some local inspection authorities require the independent kind specifically, and an alignment bay is exactly the sort of installation that gets inspected. If it is a condition for you, raise it before ordering and we will obtain Challenger's current status in writing.

Freight and unloading

Ships as freight within the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your address rather than quoted in this description. Arrange unloading in advance — a forklift rated for the crate, or a collection you book from the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee. Inspect the shipment before signing the bill of lading: count the pieces, look for damage, write anything you find on the paperwork before the driver leaves, photograph it and contact us that day. A clean signature is very hard to walk back.
