Challenger Lifts 4115EFX — the Shortest 15,000 lb Alignment Rack in the Range

At 247.625" overall, this is the most compact of Challenger's 4115 alignment racks — the shortest overall length of the four builds, in a family where every model carries the same 15,000 lbs. If your constraint is the building rather than the vehicle, that is the specification that matters, and it is why this particular SKU exists.

The FX in the model code means front closed: a crossmember runs across the nose of the rack. Challenger's stated reason for the closed-front layout is a fully enclosed front column and crossbeam assembly. You give up walk-in access at the front of the vehicle and you get a tidier, fully enclosed rack in return.

Will It Fit?

Challenger's minimum recommended bay for this rack is 14' x 24'. That allowance, rather than the rack's own dimensions, is the number to hold a tape measure against, because it accounts for walking round the lift and opening a door.

The rack is 247.625" long and 142" wide. There is 196" between the columns and 125.5" inside them; the columns stand 98" high. Because this is a closed-front build, those last two are single figures rather than separate front and rear values — a small thing, but it makes the layout drawing simpler than on an open-front rack.

Runways are 26" wide, 7" off the floor and 40.625" apart. Rise height is 78" and the maximum wheelbase is 183".

Services required: a 2HP motor on 208V–230V, 60Hz, 1Ph, plus shop air at 90–120 psi to operate the locks. Rise time is 85 seconds.

Site checks are the buyer's responsibility, and they are worth doing carefully on the shortest rack in a range, because a compact rack is usually bought for a tight building. Measure the bay against 14' x 24', confirm the door width and ceiling, and have the electrical supply checked. On the slab we cannot help you from this page: our data for this model carries no concrete thickness and no concrete strength figure. Do not borrow one from a similar lift — ask us and we will obtain the manufacturer's floor requirement in writing before you order.

Why a shorter rack is not a lesser rack

The compact builds in this family are not decontented versions of the long ones. Capacity, runway width, rise height, lock count, motor and the alignment-system compatibility are all the same; what changes is the overall length and the space between the columns, and therefore the longest vehicle the rack will take. Choosing the EFX is a decision about your building and your vehicle mix, not a decision to accept less lift. If your longest regular vehicle sits comfortably inside a 183" wheelbase, the extra length of the extended builds buys you nothing but floor space you have to find.

Runways: 26" wide, and what that does for the driver

Twenty-six inches of runway width is a generation change on this rack, and its value is mostly felt at the moment a vehicle is driven on. A wide runway tolerates the difference between a compact car's track and a medium-duty truck's without the technician having to line up perfectly, back off and try again. Between the runways sits 40.625" of clear space — the working gap that determines what a technician can reach from underneath and where a rolling jack can be positioned.

Ramps, locks and the wear surface

The approach ramps are louvered rather than diamond-tread or grit-strip. Challenger's claim is that louvres are more effective, and the mechanism is straightforward: a raised texture grips until it fills with rubber and road film, while a louvre grips on a formed edge and clears itself. On a rack driven onto wet several times a day, this is one of the few surfaces that actually wears out.

There are 17 lock positions, which is an ergonomics figure rather than a safety one — every position holds, but more of them means the runways stop nearer the height a technician actually wants to work at. Inside the columns, an internally encapsulated UHMW slide block is the wear interface between carriage and column, and enclosing it keeps workshop grit off the running surface. That is the component that decides whether a rack still travels smoothly after a decade of daily use.

Two qualifications on the manufacturer's shared copy

Challenger writes one block of marketing text for all four 4115 builds. On this SKU, two parts of it need correcting against the model's own spec sheet, and we would rather tell you now than have you discover it at order time:

  • The galvanized coating upgrade is listed as not applicable on this model. The shared copy recommends adding galvanizing to the runways, jack rails and turn-plate pockets. If a corrosion-resistant finish is a real requirement for your building, contact us before ordering and we will confirm what is actually available on this SKU.
  • The shared copy describes an open-front rack. This build is closed-front. The listing is right; the paragraph was written for the family.

Separately, the two-wheel and four-wheel alignment range rows on this spec sheet are blank. The rack is sold for alignment work, accepts the alignment kit and is described as compatible with current imaging alignment systems — but there is no published alignment range in our data, and deriving one from the maximum wheelbase would be a guess dressed up as a specification.

Perfect For

Shops working in a tight commercial bay who need alignment capability and cannot give up the floor length an extended rack demands. General service workshops whose vehicle mix is cars and light trucks rather than long-wheelbase commercials. Multi-bay shops fitting out several bays where every inch of length saved multiplies. Buyers who prefer a closed front for a fully enclosed look and are not standing at the nose of the vehicle all day. It is not a home-garage lift — 14' x 24' of clear bay, a 208V–230V single-phase supply and a compressed air feed put it in a commercial building, and it comes in black only.

What's in the Box

Rack, four columns, runways and louvered approach ramps. The alignment kit — rolling jacks, internal airline system and stainless steel turn plates — is an optional extra, not part of the lift. It is also the item that most often explains why two quotes for "the same rack" differ, so check both sides before comparing.

Certification

Challenger lists this rack as ALI/ETL certified — marks that follow independent third-party assessment, rather than a manufacturer's own declaration that its product meets a standard. That difference is the whole point when an insurer, a fleet policy or a local inspector sets a requirement, because the two are different documents and only one of them satisfies a rule written around third-party listing. Before you order, check whether your requirement names a scheme by name, and ask us to confirm that the configuration and accessories you want sit inside the listing's scope. We will get the manufacturer's confirmation in writing rather than reason it out for you.

Shipping and Delivery

This rack ships by freight within the lower 48 states, with the cost quoted live at checkout for the address you enter — not a fixed number written into this page months ago. Even the compact build is a long, heavy shipment: you will need a forklift or telehandler that can handle the runways, or you can take delivery at the carrier's terminal instead, which is a common choice. Residential delivery is available and adds a residential fee. Check the load before signing anything: count the pieces against the paperwork, look closely at runway ends and column packaging, and record any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is still on site. A clean signature is read as an undamaged delivery.

Warranty

Warranty claims go through our warranty claims page. No warranty period is quoted here because we do not hold a published term for this model that we would stand behind — ask us and we will send Challenger's current wording. Whatever it says, the same rule protects you: do not take apart the component you intend to claim on. Stop using the rack, photograph the fault where it failed, and contact us before anything is dismantled. A stripped-down part cannot be assessed, and an unassessable claim is a refused claim.
