BendPak MD-6XP Portable Mid-Rise Frame Lift

The MD-6XP is a 6,000 lb mid-rise scissor lift that engages the vehicle's frame, rides on its own power-unit cart, and lifts to 47" (1,194 mm) — high enough to stand under, low enough to live in a narrow bay. The detail worth knowing before you buy is that it wants two supplies, not one: a power circuit for the pump and a compressed-air drop for the safety-lock release. Most listings bury that. It belongs in the first paragraph.

The air requirement, up front

Instead of bulky spring releases, BendPak fits light pneumatic cylinders that release all the safety locks together at the push of a button during descent. That is a genuinely better arrangement — less to maintain, a smoother controlled descent, and no reaching in to trip a lock by hand — but it means the lift needs shop air. BendPak's own note specifies a minimum 50 PSI, 10 CFM air source at the time of installation. If your garage has no compressor, budget for one alongside the lift rather than discovering the requirement on installation day.

Zerk fittings at the hinge points

Every hinge point carries a Zerk grease fitting. This is the sort of specification that reads as trivia and turns out to be the difference between a lift that ages well and one that develops play. A scissor lift's pivots are its wear surfaces; feed them lubricant on a schedule and they stay tight for the life of the machine. Without fittings you cannot service those points at all — you simply wait for the wear. It is a small piece of engineering that tells you what the designers expected the lift to do for a living.

Will it fit?

Power and air. The motor runs on 110 VAC, 50-60 Hz, single phase — an ordinary single-phase circuit, not a three-phase industrial supply — plus the 50 PSI, 10 CFM air source described above.

Height range. Fully lowered the lift sits at 4.75" (121 mm), and full rise without adapters is 47" (1,194 mm). The safety lock bar catches at 23" (584 mm), 33.75" (857 mm) and 42.5" (1,080 mm), so you can hold the vehicle at a height that suits the job rather than at whatever the top of the stroke gives you. Time to full rise is 45 seconds.

Floor space. This is a small-footprint machine designed to drop into a narrower bay, and because the power unit travels on a cart the lift itself is not tied to a wall socket position. Leave room to route the vehicle onto the frames and to walk both sides.

The vehicle, which is the check people skip. The platform and contact blocks are designed to lift most unibody and frame-contact undercarriages at the manufacturer's recommended pick-up points. Compare your vehicle's specifications — ground clearance and overall height in particular — against the figures above before buying. That check is the buyer's responsibility, and we are glad to run through it with you first.

Four support bars, and why frame contact matters

The MD-6XP uses four solid steel-frame support bars and engages the vehicle at its frame rather than under the wheels. Frame contact is what leaves the wheels hanging free, which is the whole point for brake, wheel and suspension work; it is also what makes this a comfortable detailing height rather than a floor-level crawl. The adjustable arm assemblies are what let one lift cover a mixed list of vehicles instead of the two or three it was set up for.

Even rise, and locks that do not need remembering

A flow divider built into the hydraulic cylinder keeps both sides rising and descending together. Even on a single-platform lift, unequal pressure is what tips a load, so this is a stability feature rather than a refinement. The safety lock bars then engage automatically as the lift ascends — nobody has to remember them, which is the only reliable kind of safety feature. If hydraulic pressure were lost entirely to a leak or a burst hose, the mechanical locks are what hold the platform where it is.

Perfect for

  • Light-duty truck and car service, which is what BendPak names as its target.
  • Narrow-bay shops that need a real working height without giving up a full bay footprint.
  • Detailers, who need the vehicle at a comfortable height far more often than they need it overhead.
  • Home garages with a compressor already installed — the air requirement makes that a real prerequisite, not a nicety.

What is in the box

  • The MD-6XP lift with four steel-frame support bars and adjustable arm assemblies
  • Portable motor cart that doubles as the tow handle
  • Safety lock bar with multiple lock positions and push-button pneumatic release
  • Durable cushioned rubber contact blocks
  • A set of truck adapters, included free of charge
  • Graphic safety decals, maintenance decals, a vehicle lifting-point guide and a safety instruction placard

Read the safety material end to end before installing or operating the lift — it is included precisely so the people using it are trained on it.

Certification and compliance, stated plainly

BendPak makes no third-party safety-listing claim for the MD-6XP in the data we hold, and we do not make one for it. Some insurers, fleet policies and local jurisdictions require equipment that carries a North American third-party safety listing — an independent test-house listing, which is a different document from a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity. If that requirement applies to you, check what your paperwork actually asks for before you buy. We are happy to help you match the requirement to a product.

Shipping and delivery

The MD-6XP ships as freight within the lower 48 states. Freight is not parcel delivery: the truck brings it to the kerb or the dock and the receiving end is yours, so have a forklift, a dock and pallet jack, or arrange to collect from the carrier's terminal. Delivery to a residential address is a different service from a commercial dock and carries a residential fee — the checkout quotes it live rather than baking a stale number into this page.

Inspect before you sign. Look over the crate, the frames and the power unit, and record any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Signing a clean bill of lading is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived undamaged.

Warranty

The MD-6XP is covered by BendPak's published warranty document for the product. No term is stated in the product data we hold, so we are not going to quote one — ask us and we will send you the current document before you order. Whatever it says, do not dismantle the power unit, the cylinder or the lock assembly before a claim is raised: an opened unit is usually outside the warranty by the time it is assessed, and the fault needs to arrive intact.
