Atlas TTC301 Heavy Duty Truck Tire Changer

The TTC301 is the machine to buy when the work is standard over-the-road truck wheels, in quantity, and you would rather spend the money on clamping muscle than on automation. It takes rims from 13" to 27", tires up to 63" (5' 3") in diameter and 30.5 inches wide, and it drives them with a 3 HP chuck motor and 6,614 lbs of clamping power — the same size chuck motor Atlas fits to its fully automatic changer, on a machine whose tool arm and tool head you position by hand.

That is the trade this model represents, and it is a rational one. Automation saves an operator's shoulders on high-repetition work. It does not break a bead. The bead breaker here develops 4,112 lbs of force, the chuck is an electric/hydraulic self-centering four jaw unit with five rim locking positions, and the whole thing is built on a single piece frame with a solid floor plate. Where the money went is visible in those numbers.

Who this machine is aimed at

The design is a joint venture between an Italian wheel service manufacturer and an Asian wheel service equipment builder, and it has been sold internationally for several years. It is aimed squarely at two buyers.

The first is the large truck tire center doing volume on conventional over-the-road wheel assemblies — the sort of shop where dependability and a machine that is not down matters more than a novel feature. The second is the large farm or agricultural operation that runs its own trucks and trailers and has decided that sending wheels out is costing more in downtime than a changer costs to own.

If your work regularly involves rims above 27", this is the wrong machine and we would rather say so on the page than after the freight has moved. Tractor, skidder and large off-road assemblies want a wider-clamping changer.

The size envelope, in the order you should check it

  • Rim clamping range: 13" - 27". This is the first and most decisive number.
  • Minimum clamping size with the alloy adapters: 6 3/8", which brings small alloy wheels into range.
  • Maximum tire diameter: 63" (5' 3").
  • Maximum tire width: 30.5 inches, listed on the spec table as 30 1/2" (2' 6 1/2").
  • Maximum wheel weight: 3,300 lbs on the chuck.

Check the largest assembly you handle against all five, not the average one. The average wheel is never the wheel that shows up the day after the machine is bolted down. One note on the width figure: the store's own product data carries 31" for maximum wheel width while the machine's spec table reads 30 1/2". If your work sits at that limit, ask us to confirm the current factory figure before you order — we would rather check than let you find out with a casing in the jaws.

Working the machine

Control is by a wired mobile control unit rather than a fixed panel. On truck work that is a genuine safety feature and not a convenience: it lets the operator stand where the bead is visible, which is where the danger is, instead of standing where the manufacturer happened to weld a box. Chuck rotation, tool positioning and the bead breaker are all driven from that unit while you watch the work.

Rim clamps for both steel and alloy wheels are supplied, along with an alloy rim adapter set with plastic inserts. Those inserts are the parts that stop a hydraulic chuck marking an expensive polished aluminum wheel, and they are the accessory most often missing from a cheaper machine's box.

Acoustic pressure is rated at 70dBA — normal speaking level — which is worth knowing if the changer is going into a bay that shares air with a customer waiting area.

Will It Fit? Power, pressure and floor

Electrically the TTC301 wants 220v, 1-phase, on a 30 amp breaker. The hydraulic motor is 2 HP and the chuck motor is 3 HP, both rated 220v (+/- 5%, 209-231 volts). Treat that tolerance as a specification and not a suggestion: a long, thin feed to the far wall of a shop can drop under the bottom of that band during a starting load, and an under-fed motor runs hot and shortens its own life. Have the circuit installed properly and get the voltage read at the machine.

Hydraulic operating pressure runs 0 - 1885 psi.

Siting and floor preparation are the customer's responsibility. The machine ships at 1,390 lbs on a single piece frame with a solid floor plate, so it needs flat, sound concrete and enough clear floor around the chuck to swing a 63" tire without hitting anything or anyone. The installation manual on this page governs mounting, clearances and anchoring — read it before you choose the spot, not after.

Perfect For

  • Truck tire centers doing high volume on conventional over-the-road wheel assemblies.
  • Large farms and agricultural operations running their own truck and trailer fleet.
  • Fleet workshops that want to bring tire work in-house and stop paying for road calls on wheels they could handle themselves.
  • Shops upgrading from tire irons — the step that makes truck work a normal job rather than the one nobody wants.
  • Not for tractor, skidder or large off-road rims above 27".

Certification — what the paperwork does and does not say

We hold no third-party safety or conformity listing for the TTC301 in the manufacturer data supplied to us, and we are not going to put a mark on this page that we cannot evidence. That is a statement about the documents in our hands, not a claim about how the machine is built.

Whether it matters is a question about your buyer, not about the equipment. Insurers writing commercial garage policies, government and fleet purchasing departments and some workplace safety schemes ask for independently listed machinery and want to see the certificate. If you are buying into one of those processes, tell us before you order and we will go to the manufacturer for the current documentation rather than let you assume either way.

Shipping and delivery

The TTC301 travels as freight within the lower 48. The freight charge is calculated live at checkout for the address you are shipping to, which is why you will not find a shipping figure written into this page.

Have the unload planned. At 1,390 lbs crated this comes off the trailer on forks. Without a forklift and a driver, take terminal pickup and collect it with your own equipment. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee — declare the address type at checkout so the shipment is dispatched on the right service the first time.

Check it over before the driver leaves. Compare the crate and accessory cartons against the packing list and write any damage, shortage or crushing onto the bill of lading before signing. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the shipment arrived complete, and unwinding that later is difficult. Photographs taken while the freight is still on the truck are the strongest record you can have.

Warranty

The TTC301 is covered by a 1 Year parts only warranty. Parts only means the component is supplied; labor, freight and any equipment needed to fit it fall to the owner.

One habit protects a hydraulic claim more than any other: leave the faulty component assembled until the claim is approved. A pump, valve block or cylinder that has been opened is generally treated as no longer inspectable, and an otherwise valid claim can fail on that point alone. Photograph the symptom, write down what the machine was doing when it appeared, call us, and let the claim be raised before anything comes apart. Keep the commissioning notes and a record of the measured supply voltage — on motor and hydraulic failures they are the documents that decide the outcome.
