Description
-Atlas Platinum PVL14 — the power unit is the part worth reading about
Most four-post lifts in this class are described by their capacity and nothing else. The PVL14 is a 14,000 lb commercial four-post, and it will take cars, vans, SUVs, pickups and a fair amount of light and medium-duty commercial work. But the component that decides how a lift behaves on its two-thousandth cycle is the power unit, and this one ships with an ALLY Hydraulic AL2650 — a specified, named unit rather than an anonymous motor and pump.
That distinction is worth spelling out, because it is invisible in a photograph. An outside laboratory, MET Laboratories, has signed off the AL2650’s electrical compliance for both the United States and Canada. Its armatures are built heavier than a commodity unit’s and it carries more motor windings, with additional silver in the wire and the connections. The practical result is heat: a motor that runs cooler holds its torque steadily through the whole travel of the lift instead of losing it as the windings warm up. A power unit that fades in the last two feet of lift is a power unit that will eventually stall with a truck on it. The AL2650 is covered for 2 years in its own right.
Will It Fit Your Shop?
This is the section to read before the specifications, because a lift that cannot be installed is not a bargain at any price.
- Concrete. A minimum of 6" of concrete rated at 3,000 PSI. This is not advisory. If you do not know what is under your floor, core it or ask whoever poured it before you buy — slab verification is the customer’s responsibility and it is the single most common reason an installation stops on the day.
- Ceiling. The columns stand 92 1/2" (7' 8 1/2"), and that is the height your roof line, your door tracks and your lighting have to clear. The rise to the top of the runway, and the room left underneath it, are listed in the specifications and are disputed — read the note below before you plan headroom around either one.
- Floor area. 131 3/4" (10' 11 3/4") wide across the columns, or 140 1/2" (11' 8 1/2") once the motor is accounted for, by 251 1/2" (20' 11 1/2") long including the approach ramp.
- Power and air. 220 volt single phase on a 30 amp breaker, plus an external air supply at 85–115 PSI for the single-point lock release. Add 3–5 gallons of AW32 or AW46 hydraulic oil, which is not supplied.
Drive-through is 94 1/2" (7' 10 1/2") and the lift accepts a wheelbase up to 195" (16' 3"). The clearance between the columns is a third figure, and it is one to confirm with us rather than to plan against — it appears in the specifications below with the reason attached.
Two measurements on this page the manufacturer states differently
Atlas’s own current published specification for the PVL14 does not agree with two of the figures this listing carries, and both of them are figures a buyer measures a building against. The first is the rise to the top of the runway, where the manufacturer publishes a notably lower height — which in turn lowers the clear room left underneath. The second is the clearance between the columns, where the manufacturer publishes a wider gap; ours also sits suspiciously close to the equivalent measurement on a different lift in the range, which is the kind of coincidence that suggests a figure travelled from one specification sheet to another.
We are not going to tell you which sheet is correct, because we do not know, and a number chosen on your behalf is worth less to you than one you can act on. What is worth saying is that a heading such as “clearance between the columns” can be pointing at a different dimension than the one you assume it means, and that headroom is settled by the vehicle in your bay rather than by a typical one. Ask us for the current factory dimensions in writing before you order, then measure your own bay and your own tallest vehicle against what comes back.
Cable and cylinder, not chain and exposed ram
The PVL14 raises on a high-strength cable system driven by an oversized hydraulic cylinder mounted under the runway. Two things follow from that, and both are things a shop notices daily rather than annually.
The first is levelling. A cable system equalises across the four corners as it travels, so the runways stay in plane. Chain-driven designs have to be levelled by adjustment and they drift, which means a recurring maintenance job that is easy to postpone and awkward to do properly. The second is door clearance. A cylinder that sits out in the open between the runways is a hard object at exactly door-swing height, and it is the reason older four-post installations collect dings on customer cars. Putting the cylinder under the runway removes the obstacle rather than asking the technician to remember it is there.
Built for rolling jacks from the start
The runways carry tracks between them, so a rolling bridge jack can be fitted to lift the vehicle clear of the runways for wheel-off work. The Atlas Platinum RJ7000 is the recommended match. Jacks are sold separately — this listing is the lift alone — and it is worth deciding at the point of purchase, because a four-post without a bridge jack cannot do brake or tire work at all.
Elsewhere the specification reads like a shop lift rather than a hobby one: an adjustable lock ladder with a double lock safety system, an air-operated single-point lock release so the whole lift drops off the locks together, 7" thick runways 20" wide and 205 1/2" (17' 1 1/2") long, and mounting hardware and steel approach ramps included.
Perfect For
- Professional repair shops that need one lift to cover the whole customer mix rather than turning away anything with a load rating.
- Dealerships and fleet operations where a certified lift is a condition of the insurance or the franchise agreement.
- Truck and van specialists — the 195" wheelbase limit and the 14,000 lb rating cover most one-ton chassis.
- Storage-plus-service buildings parking a second vehicle beneath a raised one — check the under-runway figure in the specifications first, since it follows from a rise this page and the manufacturer state differently.
What’s in the Box
Steel approach ramps, mounting hardware and the ALLY power unit are included. Hydraulic oil is not, and neither is the compressed air supply or the rolling bridge jack. Shipping weight is 2,800 lb.

Certification
The PVL14 is ALI certified. That is a third-party listing, awarded after an outside body tests the lift against the North American standard — it is not the manufacturer’s own declaration that the lift is safe. The difference matters when someone else is reading your paperwork: commercial insurance policies, fleet programmes and some local jurisdictions specify that listing by name, and a lift without it can fail an inspection that has nothing to do with how well it was built. If you are buying for a business, this is the box that gets ticked.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, lower 48 states. The rate is quoted live at checkout against your own address, so what you see is today’s number rather than one typed into a page a year ago. At 2,800 lb this is a forklift or dock consignment; if you have neither, take terminal pickup and collect it yourself. Residential addresses carry a residential fee. Look the shipment over before the driver leaves and record anything wrong on the bill of lading at that moment — a clean signature closes the argument in the carrier’s favour.
Warranty
5 years structural, 2 years hydraulic, 2 years on the power unit. If a component fails, open the claim before you take anything apart. A cylinder or power unit that has already been disassembled cannot be inspected, and that alone sinks claims that would otherwise have been paid without argument.
Atlas Platinum 14000 lb Certified 4-Post Lift
The Atlas® Platinum PVL14 is a four post commercial grade Heavy-Duty lift designed with the professional shop in mind. This lift can accommodate a variety of cars, vans, SUVs, trucks, and even some light & medium duty commercial vehicles.
The Platinum PVL14 uses a high strength cable system (with an under runway oversized hydraulic cylinder) powered by a 220 volt (single phase) power unit to raise and lower the lift. Many competitors use an “old style” chain lifting system with an exposed hydraulic cylinder system. Old style chain lifts are difficult to “level” properly and the exposed hydraulic cylinder is responsible for numerous “door dings”.
The Atlas® Platinum PVL14 features “tracks” between the runways to allow the use of a rolling bridge jack (recommended is the Atlas® Platinum RJ7000) on the lift. Rolling jacks sold separately.
The Atlas® Platinum PVL14 is also ALI certified and backed by one of the industry’s best warranties for an added peace of mind.
This product features an ALLY Hydraulic AL2650 power unit. This premium power unit is certified by MET Laboratories Inc. for electrical compliance in the United States and Canada. Extra heavy-duty armatures and more motor windings with increased silver metal included in the wires and connections create far less heat generation and allow ALLY Hydraulic power units to maintain constant torque through the lifting process. This power unit also carries an industry leading two-year limited warranty.
