Description
-Atlas Garage PRO8000EXT: the four-post you can stand under
The number that defines this lift is not its 8,000 lbs rating — plenty of four-posts carry that. It is 79" (6' 7") of clearance under the runways. That is the "EXT" in PRO8000EXT, and it is the difference between crawling under a stored car and walking under one. For anyone stacking two vehicles in a single bay, or standing at an exhaust for an hour, that extra height is the whole purchase.
It gets there on 98 1/2" columns and a lock ladder that runs the full extra height, while staying a free-standing, portable lift: the caster kit with polyurethane wheels is included, so this is not a machine you have to commit your slab to. Everything else — diamond plated runways, double lock safety system, single-point lock release — is the standard Atlas hobbyist four-post platform, made taller and locked at more positions on the way up.
Will It Fit?
Extra tall means extra demanding of the room. These are the numbers that decide it, and every one of them is worth a tape measure before you order.
- Ceiling — the one that catches people. The columns stand 98 1/2" (8' 2 1/2") on their own. Lifting height to the top of the runway is 84 1/4" (7' 1/4"), so if you plan to park a second vehicle underneath, your ceiling has to clear the runway height plus the roof of the car on top of it. Work that sum before anything else.
- Working clearance. 79" (6' 7") under the runways.
- Floor width. 104 1/2" (8' 8 1/2") without the motor and 115" (9' 7") with it. Plan to the 115" figure, then add room to walk and to open a door.
- Floor length. 206 3/4" (17' 2 3/4") overall with the approach ramp, and 157 1/2" (13' 1 1/2") between the columns. The approach ramp alone is 37" (3' 1") of that — remember to leave it somewhere to fold down to.
- Drive-through. 80 1/2" (6' 8 1/2") measured outside of tire to outside of tire, with 94 1/2" (7' 10 1/2") of clearance between the columns.
- Wheelbase. Maximum 153 1/2" (12' 9 1/2"). This is the limit people forget: a long-bed crew cab can exceed it even when the weight is nowhere near the rating.
- Runway spacing. 37" (3' 1") between the runways, 31 1/2" (2' 7 1/2") between the runway rails, and 74 5/8" (6' 2 5/8") outside edge to outside edge.
- Power. 110 Volt operation with a 30 AMP breaker required. Household voltage, dedicated circuit.
Checking your ceiling, your floor plan and your electrical supply is the buyer's responsibility. A lift that does not fit the building is not a warranty claim, and on an extra-tall four-post the ceiling is the constraint far more often than the concrete is.
What the extra height costs you, and what it buys
Being straight about the trade: a taller four-post puts the load higher, so the ramps are longer, the vehicle is further to climb, and the ceiling requirement is unforgiving. What you buy is under-runway room that no standard-height lift can give you. At 79" a person of ordinary height stands upright under the car. Exhaust, fuel lines, transmission crossmembers and floorpan work stop being contortion. And for storage, the height is what makes genuine two-deep parking possible rather than theoretical.
The runways are diamond plated and 21 1/4" wide including the rails, 18 3/4" of that being actual driving surface, over a length of 165 3/4" (13' 9 3/4") on a 4 1/2" section. Diamond plate matters more on a tall lift than a short one, because you spend more time walking on the runways to reach a stored vehicle's doors.
Lock ladder, double locks, and single-point release
The PRO8000EXT uses a lock ladder design with a double lock safety system. On an extra-tall lift the ladder is the point: it gives you locking positions all the way up the column rather than a handful near the top, so you can park the load at a genuinely comfortable working height instead of the nearest lock above it. The single-point lock release then frees all four columns from one position, which is what stops anyone getting into the habit of leaving a lock disengaged because reaching it was a nuisance. At rest the lift stands on steel, not on hydraulic pressure.
Perfect For
- Two-deep storage in a tall garage or shop bay — the reason most PRO8000EXT buyers choose it over a standard-height four-post.
- The home mechanic with headroom, who wants to stand rather than kneel.
- Detailers and restorers, where hours are spent under the same car.
- Light commercial work within the 8,000 lbs rating and the 153 1/2" wheelbase limit.
What's in the Box
From the manufacturer's inclusion list: the caster kit with polyurethane wheels, steel approach ramps, a steel jack tray, 4 plastic drip trays, 4 wheel stops and 2 rubber wheel chocks. Note that the drip trays and chocks are supplied here rather than being an accessory purchase — on a storage lift they are the items you would otherwise be buying in week two.

Certification, honestly
The manufacturer's published data for the PRO8000EXT does not state a third-party safety listing, and we will not badge one it does not claim. There is an independent lift-safety listing programme in North America — a testing and audit scheme against a published standard, distinct from any manufacturer's own declaration — and some commercial insurance policies, fleet operations and local jurisdictions require equipment that carries it. If that applies to you, verify the requirement with your insurer or inspector before purchase rather than after installation, and call us if you want help finding a listed alternative.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, lower 48, quoted live at checkout against your actual address. The carrier delivers curbside and unloading is the customer's responsibility, so you need a forklift, a tractor with forks or equivalent equipment; if you do not have one, choose terminal pickup or collect from one of the warehouse locations listed below. Deliveries to a residential address carry an additional fee, charged once per brand on the order rather than per item. Inspect before you sign. Walk the crate, look at the column ends and the runway edges, and write any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is still there — signing a clean BOL and finding the damage later makes a claim very hard to pursue.
Warranty
The PRO8000EXT carries a 2 yr structural and 1 yr hydraulic warranty, parts only — labour is not covered, which is worth budgeting for if you are not doing your own repairs. Do not strip a cylinder, hose or power unit before a claim is raised: disassembly is usually treated as your own inspection and can void the claim outright. Stop using the lift, photograph the problem, and start the claim through our warranty claims page.
