Atlas 12AWFSL: the alignment rack with the second lift already inside it

An alignment scissor lift holds a vehicle flat and square. The moment you need the wheels off the ground — a tie rod, a bearing, a brake job that turned up mid-alignment — a plain rack needs a rolling jack fetched, positioned and stored. The 12AWFSL has that second lift built into the runways, giving 17" of wheels-free rise from inside the structure itself. That single design decision is what separates this model from the plainer scissor alignment lifts in the same family, and it is the reason to pay the difference.

Around it sits a commercial-grade, 12,000 lb capacity full-rise scissor with an open-centre design, built-in slip plates, alignment turntables and a dual-cylinder platform. It suits passenger cars, SUVs and light-duty trucks in a bay that has to turn work over rather than admire it.

Will It Fit?

Scissor lifts are bought on capacity and returned on measurement. Check every one of these against your building before you order.

  • Floor length. 250" with the ramps in place, 197" without them. The ramps alone are 72", and that extra length has to live somewhere even when the lift is down.
  • Floor width. 86 3/8" overall, with 39 1/4" between the runways and 34 3/8" between the rails. Add walking room down both sides; a bay measured to the exact footprint is a bay nobody can work in.
  • Ceiling. Raised, the runways reach 84 1/4". What your roof has to clear is that plus the height of the tallest vehicle you intend to put on it, plus the room a technician needs to stand under it.
  • Lowered height. 11 1/2". Low enough to drive over on the ramps, tall enough that it is a permanent feature of the bay unless you flush-mount it.
  • Wheelbase range. 90" to 168" for four-wheel alignment, 86" to 172" for two-wheel. Measure the longest vehicle you actually intend to align, not the average one.
  • Concrete. A minimum of 6" at 3000 PSI. This is the specification people skip and then discover at install. An old slab, a thin topping over fill, or a floor with unknown history needs a core check first.
  • Power. 220V plus or minus 5%, single phase, with a 30 amp breaker.
  • Air. 90-120 PSI, for the air-operated single point lock release. Shop air is not optional on this lift.
  • Oil. 3-5 gallons of AW32 or AW46, not supplied with the lift.

Verifying the slab, the circuit and the air supply is the buyer's responsibility. Ask us before you order rather than after the freight arrives — a floor question answered late is an expensive question.

Why the built-in wheels-free lift changes the working day

A rolling jack is a fine tool and a poor habit. It has to be stored somewhere, wheeled into position, aligned to the runway rails and then wheeled back out, and on a busy rack that friction is exactly what stops a technician doing the quick suspension check they should be doing. Building the wheels-free lift into the runways removes the fetch-and-store step entirely: the vehicle is already on the rack, and the second lift comes up from underneath it.

The practical consequence is that alignment work and repair work stop being separate jobs on separate equipment. A car that comes in for an alignment and turns out to need a bushing does not have to move.

Level lifting, and why dual cylinders matter here

Each platform runs its own hydraulic cylinders. On an alignment lift that is not a luxury: the entire value of the machine is that the four contact patches sit in a known plane, and a rack that flexes or lifts unevenly under an off-centre load is producing alignment numbers that describe the lift rather than the vehicle. Balanced lifting is a measurement argument, not a comfort one.

The rest of the structure works the same way. A rear cross beam adds stability across the back of the lift, the platforms are specified for precise levelling accuracy, and 19 locking positions mean the lift can be parked at a genuine working height rather than the nearest one. Locks release from a single air-operated point, and an emergency manual pump lowers the lift if the power unit is dead — an easy feature to ignore right up to the afternoon you need it.

Alignment hardware that is already on the lift

Slip plates are built in rather than dropped in, so they are level with the turntables by construction rather than by adjustment. The alignment turntables and their covers are included, and the open-centre design keeps the underside of the vehicle reachable while it is on the rack. When the turntables are out, the lift is a general-purpose service platform rather than a single-purpose alignment rack — which for most shops is the difference between a machine that earns all day and one that earns on Tuesdays.

The lift can be surface mounted or flush mounted, and the mounting hardware and airline kit come with it. Flush mounting costs a concrete job and buys a flat floor; surface mounting costs nothing and leaves an 11 1/2" obstacle. Decide before the slab work, not after.

Perfect For

  • Alignment shops and tire retailers where the rack has to do alignments and general service in the same day.
  • General repair shops adding alignment as a service line without giving up a bay to it permanently.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops running vans and light-duty trucks that need a long wheelbase envelope.
  • Dealership service departments where floor space is fixed and equipment has to be flush-mountable.

It is a commercial machine on a commercial circuit and a commercial slab. A home garage would be better served by something simpler.

Certification, honestly

This lift is CE certified, and that is the certification its own feature list claims. It is worth being precise about what that means, because the two things get conflated constantly: a European conformity marking is a manufacturer's declaration against European directives. It is not the same document as a North American third-party lift safety listing, and it is not a substitute for one. Some commercial insurance policies, fleet operations and local jurisdictions specifically require that separate listing. If yours does, verify the requirement before you buy — ask us and we will tell you plainly whether this model satisfies it.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, lower 48. At 5,000 lbs this is a serious piece of freight and unloading is your responsibility: a forklift with the reach and rating to take it, a loading dock, or a terminal pickup you collect yourself. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee. Freight is quoted live at checkout rather than printed here, because rates move and a stale number in a description becomes an argument.

Inspect the shipment before you sign. Look at the crate corners, the banding and the wrap, and write any damage onto the bill of lading in front of the driver. Signing a clean BOL says the lift arrived undamaged; recovering from that afterwards is difficult and often impossible.

Warranty

Atlas covers the 12AWFSL with a 2 yr structural and 1 yr hydraulic warranty, parts only. Parts only means the component is covered and the labour to fit it is not — normal at this level, and better to know now.

One thing that protects the claim: do not disassemble the lift or its power unit before the claim is agreed. A stripped assembly usually ends the conversation. Photograph the fault, call us, and let the process run.
