AMGO OH-9: one of the few lifts at this level that tells you its warranty term

Go and read ten two-post lift listings. Most link a warranty document and state nothing. The OH-9 is unusual because AMGO publishes the term on the specification itself, split by component: five years on steel components, three years on hydraulic parts, two years on electrical components. Steel either lasts or it does not; hydraulics are consumable; electrics are the shortest-lived thing on any lift. A manufacturer who divides cover that way is describing how the machine ages rather than picking one figure for the advertisement.

What the term is attached to is a 9,000 lbs clear-floor overhead two-post lift with Super-Asymmetric arms and dual direct-drive cylinders, on a 2.0HP 220V single-phase power unit, reaching full height in 57 seconds. It is a shop lift first and a very good home-garage lift second, provided your ceiling can take it — which is the next section, and the one to read first.

Will It Fit?

This is an overhead lift. The beam that carries the equalising cables runs across the top between the columns, and that beam, not the height you lift to, is what your building has to accept. Every figure below is worth measuring against.

• Ceiling — read this one twice. Overall height is 143 1/8 inches on the factory sheet, close to twelve feet, and a 151 inch figure also appears in the data. Confirm which configuration you are ordering before you commit: this decides whether the lift can be stood up in your building at all.
• Floor width. Overall width 135 inches, with 112 7/32 inches between the columns, plus room to walk and work down both sides.
• Drive-through. 99 1/2 inches between the carriages — the limit on how wide a vehicle can be driven straight in.
• Rise. 71 1/2 inches to the top of the pads, 80 1/2 inches with the extension adapters, and 68 inches of clearance under the arms. The under-arm figure determines whether you can stand up under a vehicle.
• Low cars. Minimum pad height is given as 3 3/8 inches on the factory sheet and 3.5 inches in the stored field.
• Slab and power. Two columns anchored into concrete, and a 220V single-phase supply for the 2.0HP power unit.

Measuring your ceiling, your floor and your slab is the buyer's responsibility, and the overhead beam makes the ceiling check non-negotiable here. We cannot see your building, and a lift that will not stand up in the room is not a warranty matter.

Super-Asymmetric arms: finding the lift point faster, every time

A symmetric lift puts the vehicle centred between the columns on four equal arms. That is fine for a saloon and awkward for anything with its doors in the wrong place, because you choose between reaching the lift points and opening the doors once the car is up. Asymmetric geometry rotates the vehicle back so more of it sits behind the columns; AMGO's Super-Asymmetric arm set extends that, with the front arms reaching further forward and the rear arms sitting where a modern unibody wants to be picked up.

The gain is time rather than safety margin. The minutes lost on a busy day are the ones spent walking round a car re-positioning arms that did not land on the pinch weld first attempt. It also means doors open once the car is raised.

Two direct-drive cylinders, and a clear floor to stand on

Each column carries its own hydraulic cylinder driving that carriage directly, rather than one cylinder dragging both sides through a linkage. Two cylinders from one power unit keep the carriages tracking together, so a vehicle rises level instead of one corner leading. A pickup with a heavy engine forward and an empty bed is an offset load, and on a lift that rises unevenly that imbalance is absorbed by the arms and pads rather than the structure.

Clear-floor construction is the other half of it. The hydraulic lines and equalising cables run through the overhead beam, so the floor between the columns is bare concrete: roll a transmission jack straight across, wheel a drain pan under, sweep the bay out in one pass. On a base-plate lift, everything crossing that bay goes over a steel plate.

The safety hardware, and what each piece is for

The single-point safety release disengages both columns at once, so one person lowers the lift from one side. The overhead safety shut-off device sits on the beam and stops the lift before the roof of a tall vehicle reaches it — on an overhead lift, that is what stands between a van and a crushed roofline. Self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene sliders and bronze bushings carry the carriages, and do not depend on a greasing schedule everybody eventually skips.

Stackable rubber pads are supplied in 1.5 inch, 2.5 inch and 5 inch heights. That range is what lets you reach a high lift point on a pickup or a body-on-frame vehicle without stacking timber on the pad, which is a thing people do and should not.

A caution on the dimensions. Several stored fields hold two values rather than one — width as 135 inches and 141 inches, height as 143 inches and 151 inches, drive-through as 99 inches and 105 inches, column spacing as 112 inches and 118 inches. The brochure we hold covers the OH-9 and its larger sibling, which is the likely reason. The tables above use the OH-9 factory sheet; have us confirm the configuration in writing before you order.

AMGO states that this lift is CE approved and certified and meets or exceeds European Standard EN-1493. Read it accurately: CE is a conformity marking resting on the manufacturer's own declaration against European directives, EN-1493 being the European standard written for vehicle lifts. It is not the same document as a North American third-party lift safety listing and does not substitute for one. That distinction never comes up in a private garage or in most independent shops. It does for some commercial insurance policies, for fleet and municipal operations, and for jurisdictions whose code names a specific listing. Establish what your insurer or inspector requires before you order.

Shipping and delivery

This ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, with freight quoted live at checkout against your own address, so the figure you see is a current carrier rate rather than a stale estimate. It arrives crated on a standard trailer and getting it to the ground is the receiver's job — a forklift, a machine, or a plan and some help. Where none of those exist, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually easier, because the terminal already has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Inspect before you sign: crushed corners, bent steel, shifted banding, any trace of oil. Write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the load arrived undamaged.

We hold the full written document; ask us for the current copy before ordering if the exclusions matter. One warning applies to every hydraulic lift whoever built it: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or a lock mechanism before a claim is raised. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call us first.
