AMGO 409-HP: a 9,000 lb parking lift with 82 15/16″ underneath it

The number that defines the 409-HP is not its capacity. It is the 82 15/16″ of maximum height underneath the runway, with 79 13/16″ available at the top lock position. That is what the "HP" is doing in the model name: this is the high-parking version, built taller than a standard four-post so the vehicle stored underneath need not be a low car.

Rated at 9,000 lbs, it is a genuine two-cars-in-one-space lift rather than a service four-post that a tall vehicle happens to fit under with the mirrors folded. It also supports back-to-back installation, so two lifts share a run of floor rather than each needing their own approach.

Why the height underneath is the number that matters

People shop parking lifts on lifted height, then discover the useful figure is measured floor-to-underside of the raised runway — the space the second vehicle occupies, always smaller than the lifted height because the runway has thickness. Here that is 82 15/16″ at maximum rise, 79 13/16″ at the top lock. A lift parks on its locks, not its hydraulics, so plan the lower vehicle around the lock figure. Then the ceiling: the lift stands 96 5/8″ and the upper vehicle sits above the raised runway, so the building must clear the runway, that roofline, the lights and any door track below the joists. The maximum lifting and locking heights are in the table and both are contested — see the note.

The lock system, and where AMGO put the control

The 409-HP uses AMGO's patented concealed safety lock control device with a manual single-point release. Concealed means the control sits protected inside the structure rather than exposed to being knocked, snagged or corroded — worth having on a lift that spends most of its life parked and untouched. Single-point release means both sides come off their locks from one position, rather than a technician walking a loaded lift releasing one corner at a time.

The columns are double-S shaped rather than plain channel — a stiffness decision. The profile resists twist under an off-centre load better than a straight section of the same weight of steel — what counts on a lift holding a vehicle for weeks. Aero-standard cables handle synchronisation.

Living with it: ramps, layout and power

Non-slip platforms with foldable drive-in ramps come as standard, and folding matters more here than on a service lift: the ramps are in the way far more of the day than they are in use. The power-side column can be installed in any corner, which shows its value when the bay has a door on the wrong side or a wall you cannot run conduit along. A pull rope is standard; a caster kit is optional.

Power is flexible too. The 409-HP takes either a 1.0 HP 110V / 60Hz unit or a 2.0 HP 220V / 60Hz single-phase unit. For a lift that goes up and stays up, 110V saves running a new circuit; for one cycling all day, take the 220V unit. The cycle times published for each are in the table, and they are contested too.

Will it fit?

Measure the bay against these before you order — verifying the site is the buyer's job, and this is a large lift.

  • Floor length: 238 1/8″ overall including the ramps, with the crossbeam outside edges at 197 3/4″.
  • Floor width — contested: this page lists 119 1/8″ overall and 109 7/16″ between the posts; the manufacturer publishes narrower on both. See the note below.
  • Ceiling and stack: 96 5/8″ of lift, then the upper vehicle above the raised runway; underneath you have 82 15/16″ maximum, 79 13/16″ at the top lock.
  • Drive-through — contested: this page lists 98 1/4″ of clearance; the manufacturer publishes less. If a dually or a mirror-out van has to pass between the posts, do not plan it on this figure.
  • Runways: 42 3/8″ between them, 82 3/8″ across the outside edges.
  • Lowered height: 6 1/16″ at the deck, which is what decides how steep the ramps feel to a low car.
  • Slab: the installation manual states the concrete thickness and strength this lift needs. Check it against your actual floor, and have an old, cracked or unknown slab assessed before the lift ships.
  • Power: 110V or 220V as above. Confirm with us which unit you want before the order goes in.

Perfect for

  • The collector garage where the point is two vehicles in one footprint and the vehicle underneath is not a sports car.
  • Dealership and detail storage, where back-to-back installation doubles the density of a run.
  • Shops needing an overflow position that doubles as a service lift.
  • Home garages with height but not floor area — it trades ceiling for floor, the trade most garages can make.

What comes with it

Standard equipment as listed by the manufacturer: the ETL certified power unit, the hydraulic cylinder, AMGO's patented concealed safety lock control with manual single-point release, aero-standard cables, the double-S shaped columns, non-slip platforms with foldable drive-in ramps, and a pull rope. Caster kits, drip trays and jack platforms are separate; we will confirm the full list before you order.

Before you commit to a bay

Confirm the overall width, the gap between the posts and the drive-through clearance with us in writing before you plan the bay — and before you commit to the vehicle that has to drive through it. The manufacturer's current published specification disagrees with several figures here, and the width group is the one that decides a purchase: against ours it gives a narrower overall width, a narrower gap between the posts and a narrower drive-through opening. Size a dually or a mirror-out pickup against these numbers and you are planning on clearance the manufacturer does not claim.

The same sheet gives a different maximum lifting height and locking height, a lighter gross weight and a single lifting time in place of our pair. The under-runway heights this page is built on are not among the figures it contradicts, but have us confirm those too if the fit underneath is close. We assert neither side: sellers republish our figures digit for digit, so the same numbers elsewhere show a shared source and nothing more.

Certification, stated precisely

AMGO's claim here is specific and we will keep it specific: the power unit is ETL certified as standard. That is a listing on an electrical component, not an independent third-party safety listing of the complete lift, and the two are run together on lift pages far too often. For some buyers that is the whole decision — certain insurance policies, fleet and municipal operations and local jurisdictions require a full-lift listing by name. If yours is one, tell us which before you order.

Shipping and delivery

The 409-HP travels as freight within the lower 48, and the rate is fetched from the carrier for your address at checkout — which is why no shipping figure appears here.

Arrange the unload before the truck is booked: getting it to the ground is the receiver's responsibility. A forklift makes it short work; without one, take terminal pickup, or collect from an AMGO warehouse location listed below. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, shown at checkout. Inspect while the driver is on site — torn wrap, crushed corners, cut banding, bent ramp ends or a shifted load goes onto the bill of lading before you sign, and photographs at the tailgate decide a freight claim.

Warranty

AMGO provides written warranty terms on the structure, the hydraulics and the electrical components; we will send the current document before you buy. One habit protects it: do not take apart a power unit, cylinder, valve, cable assembly or lock mechanism before a claim is opened — a dismantled part is treated as a modified part. Photograph the fault, take the serial number from the column, and call us first.
