AMGO 409-DP: a double parking lift built to clear a low ceiling

Parking lifts usually fail on the same measurement — the roof. The 409-DP is the short one in AMGO's double parking line: 82 7/8″ overall height and a platform that comes down to 6 1/8″, which is what lets it go into a domestic garage or a low commercial deck where the taller version simply will not fit. If your ceiling is the constraint rather than the size of the cars, this is the model to look at first.

What it does is straightforward and slightly startling the first time you see it: four vehicles in two floor spaces. Two side-by-side parking units share one frame, each raising a car so another can park beneath. Total capacity is 9,000 lbs, with a maximum of 6,000 lbs per vehicle.

The low-profile platform is the feature, not a footnote

At 6 1/8″ the deck is barely above the floor when it is down, and that has two consequences a spec sheet does not spell out.

First, ramp angle. A platform this low needs only a shallow ramp to climb, so a low front air dam clears instead of scraping. On a lift that a collector car will drive on and off hundreds of times, that is the difference between using it and resenting it.

Second, stacked height. Every inch the lower deck sits above the floor is an inch stolen from the car parked underneath and an inch added to the top of the car above. A low deck plus an 82 7/8″ structure is what keeps the whole stack under a ceiling that was never designed for this.

Will It Fit?

Check all of these before ordering. Verifying the building, the door, the floor and the electrical supply is the buyer's responsibility.

  • Ceiling. 82 7/8″ overall for the structure. But the real question is the stack: the vehicle underneath, plus the deck, plus the vehicle on top, plus clearance. Measure that, not the lift.
  • Garage door. Easy to forget and expensive to discover. The door and its track have to clear the raised deck, or the lift has to sit clear of the door's swing.
  • Width. 198 7/16″ overall, 188 7/8″ between the columns, listed as 16 ft between columns. This is a two-bay structure and should be measured as one.
  • Length. 211″ overall including the ramps, plus approach room in front.
  • Drive-through. 177 3/4″ between the carriages, a 14.75 ft drive-thru width.
  • Floor and power. A parking lift stands loaded for weeks at a time rather than minutes, so slab condition under the base plates matters more here than on a service lift. The concrete specification is in the installation manual attached to this listing — read it before you order. Standard power is 2.0 HP at 220V, 60Hz, single phase; a 110V power unit is available and must be specified when you order, since it is a slower unit and not a later swap.

Two units, four ramps, one frame

Each parking unit measures 74 7/16″ across, with 21 5/8″ separating the two. That separation is deliberate: the units function independently side to side, so raising the left-hand car does not involve the right-hand one. Nobody shuffles three cars to reach the fourth.

The lift ships with four foldable drive-on ramps — a pair for each unit — over non-slip diamond platforms. Folding them recovers floor space when the lift is not being loaded, which in the kind of tight garage this model is aimed at is a genuine gain. AMGO also designed the packaging to minimise crate size, which is a reasonable thing to care about when the thing has to get to you by freight and then through a door.

Holding a car up for a month, safely

A service lift is loaded while somebody is watching it. A parking lift is loaded while nobody is. That changes which safety features matter.

Primary safety locks and a cable-slack protection device are standard. The lock control is AMGO's patented concealed design with a manual single-point release — concealed because a release anyone can reach or knock is a hazard in a shared or domestic garage, and single-point because both sides should come down together rather than one corner leading. Adjustable multiple safety ladders set the parked height so the deck rests on steel at the level you chose, not on hydraulic pressure held for weeks. The columns use a double S-shaped profile, which stiffens them against bending rather than simply adding mass.

Heights, in the order you will care about them

Maximum lifting height is 73 11/16″, locking at 70 15/16″ to the top of the runway. Beneath the runway there is 69 3/4″ of clearance, with the highest lock at 67″ — that locked figure is the honest one to size the car underneath against. Beneath the crossbeam the highest lock is 64 1/2″. Width between the runways is 37″. A full cycle takes 47 seconds.

Perfect For

  • Home garages with a normal ceiling that need to hold four cars in a two-car footprint.
  • Collectors storing cars for long periods on mechanical locks rather than hydraulics.
  • Small dealerships and lots where the paved area is fixed and inventory is not.
  • Shared and commercial garages doubling capacity without construction.

If you need to park a tall SUV underneath rather than a car, look at the taller heavier AMGO four-posts or the extended double parking model instead — this one is optimised for a low roof.

Certification, stated plainly

We are not going to badge this page with something the product data does not claim. The documentation supplied to us for the 409-DP does not state an independent third-party North American lift safety listing, and a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity — for any market — is a different document that does not substitute for one. On a parking lift this question comes up more often than on a service lift, because the building is more likely to have an insurer, a homeowners' association or a code officer with a view on stacked vehicle storage. If any of those apply to you, get the requirement in writing before you commit.

Shipping and delivery

This lift travels by freight and we ship to the lower 48 only. Expect the carrier to phone and book a slot. Getting 2,810 lbs off the trailer is the customer's job — forklift, telehandler or dock — and if you have none of those, choose terminal pickup and bring equipment that can handle it. Warehouse pickup is offered at Manning, SC, Dallas, TX and Temecula, CA. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, calculated live at checkout together with the freight.

Then the part people skip: look at the shipment before you sign. Walk around the crate, take photographs, and write any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is present. Once a clean bill of lading is signed you have stated the goods arrived undamaged.

Warranty

The warranty terms covering this lift, together with the exclusions and the claim procedure, are on our warranty claims page. That page is the live version — read it there rather than trusting a term repeated in a product description.

And the one that costs people their claim: do not take a component apart before the claim has been agreed. On a parking lift the usual candidates are the power unit and a lock assembly. Leave both alone, tell us what it is doing, and let the process run properly.
