Description
-AMGO 408-P: the 8,000 lb parking lift for a garage with an ordinary ceiling
A parking lift is a straight trade between two heights, and almost nobody selling them says so. The taller the lift, the more room underneath - and the more ceiling you need above. The 408-P sits deliberately at the compact end of that trade: it stands 82 7/8″ overall and gives you 69″ of clear height underneath. That is a car parked comfortably above another car under a normal roof, rather than a truck above a car in a garage tall enough to take one.
If your ceiling is the constraint, this is the model in the range that fits it. If you need a full-height SUV or a crew-cab pickup underneath, look at the taller high-parking version of this lift instead - same capacity, more headroom below, correspondingly more building required above. We would rather send you to the right one first time.
Will It Fit?
Hold these figures against your own garage before you order. Measuring is the buyer's job.
- Ceiling. The lift stands 82 7/8″ on its own. What decides the job is that plus the roof height of whatever goes on top, so measure the vehicle you intend to park up there.
- Clearance below. 69″ maximum underneath height, with the locks holding at 65 13/16″. Work from the locking figure - that is where the lift rests when parked - and measure your lower vehicle at its highest point, mirrors and roof rails included.
- Floor length. 207 1/4″ overall with the ramps, so allow a little over 207″ of usable depth. The crossbeams span 166 7/8″ outside edge to outside edge.
- Floor width. The product data does not agree with itself here and we will say so rather than pick the convenient number: the specification sheet gives 102 1/2″ overall, while the manufacturer's product overview says 109 5/8 inches. Plan against the larger figure and confirm with us before ordering if your garage is tight. Between the posts is 92 7/8″, which governs whether a door will open once the vehicle is up.
- Runways. 37″ apart, 74 3/8″ across the outside edges. Check the 37″ figure against the track width of your narrower vehicle.
- Drive-through. 81 11/16″ on the specification sheet; the overview quotes 81 5/8 inches.
- Drive-on height. 6 1/16″ minimum on the specification sheet, 6 1/8″ in the overview - low either way.
- Power. 1.0HP on 110V/60Hz, or 2.0HP on 220V/60Hz. The 110V option is why a lot of home garages can take this lift with no electrician involved at all.
- Concrete. The slab thickness and strength required for the anchors are in the installation manual. Read them before you order, and if you do not know what your floor is, core it.
Two motors, two speeds, and a disagreement worth knowing about
You can have this lift on ordinary household 110V or on 220V, and the difference shows up as time rather than capability. How much time depends on which document you read: the specification sheet quotes 98 seconds on 110V against 40 seconds on 220V, the product overview quotes 83 seconds and 31 seconds, and we print both because we cannot verify which is current. The shape is not in dispute - 220V is roughly twice as quick - and on a lift that raises a car in the evening and lowers it at the weekend, that matters far less than rewiring a garage.
Back to back: four vehicles in the depth of two
The 408-P supports back-to-back installation. Two lifts stand nose to nose down a single run of floor, sharing the space that two separately positioned lifts would each demand for access, so a deep single garage becomes a four-vehicle store without any building work. It is the most useful thing on the feature list and it never gets explained, probably because it only makes sense once you have drawn it. If that is your plan, tell us before you order - it changes what you should be measuring.
Concealed locks, double-S columns, aero cable
The safety lock control is a patented AMGO design that keeps the mechanism concealed rather than exposed, with a manual single-point release. The linkage stays out of the grit, dust and road salt that collects on a garage floor - what normally kills an exposed lock mechanism over ten or fifteen years - and all four locks free from one position rather than column by column. On a lift whose job is to hold a car in the air for months rather than minutes, the lock mechanism deserves more attention than the capacity figure does. The columns use a double-S profile rather than plain box section, which buys stiffness without buying thickness, and the drive is by aero-standard cable - on a four-post, the component that carries the vehicle.
Perfect For
- Home garages with a standard ceiling that want a second car stored above the first - the case this model is dimensioned for.
- Collectors doubling a deep garage, especially back-to-back.
- Garages with no 220V supply, thanks to the 110V motor option.
- Light service work - brakes, exhaust, tyres, undercarriage inspection.
What is in the crate
- Four double-S columns and two non-slip platforms
- Foldable drive-in ramps, standard
- AMGO ETL certified power unit, standard rather than optional
- The patented concealed safety lock control device with manual single-point release
- Aero-standard cables and the hydraulic cylinder
Not supplied: anchors are specified in the manual, the electrical circuit is yours, and slab work is yours. Drip trays, a caster kit or a rolling jack are worth discussing before you order.

Certification, stated plainly
Read AMGO's claim on this model exactly as written: the power unit is ETL certified, supplied that way as standard. That is a real third-party electrical safety certification and it covers the power unit. It is not a safety listing covering the complete lift, and the product data we hold makes no such claim - the two get conflated routinely in this category, and rarely in the buyer's favour. For a home garage and most independent shops the difference never arises; it arises for some commercial insurance policies, for fleet and municipal operations, and in jurisdictions whose code names a listing for the whole machine. Establish what your insurer or inspector requires before you order, and ask us to put the question to the manufacturer in writing if you need it documented.
Shipping and delivery
The 408-P moves as freight within the lower 48, and the cost is quoted live against your address when you check out rather than estimated beforehand. Expect a long, heavy load: four columns, two runways and a set of ramps. Taking it off the trailer is the receiver's responsibility - a forklift able to reach and lift a runway crate, or a terminal collection booked with the carrier. Terminal collection is worth serious thought for a home delivery, because the terminal has a dock and a forklift and your driveway does not. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when you select it.
Do not sign until you have looked. Run your eye down the runway edges for bends, check the ramps and column ends for crush damage, count the crates against the paperwork, look for cut banding and oil traces, note anything at all on the bill of lading while the driver is with you, and photograph it. A clean signature is the document the carrier will produce if you claim afterwards.
Warranty
AMGO warrants the structure, the hydraulics and the electrical components on separate terms, and it is the written terms current when you order that apply. Ask us for a copy before you buy if the detail matters; our claims process is at mechanicsuperstore.com/pages/warranty-claims.
One warning holds for every hydraulic lift, whoever built it. Should something fail, leave the power unit, the cylinder, the cable assemblies and the lock mechanism alone until a claim is open. A component that has been apart is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover you were entitled to. Photograph the fault, take the serial number off a column, and call us before anything is dismantled.
