Published figures for the display differ. TOPDON's marketing description of the TC005 calls the display 3.5-inch; the specification table published for the same product lists a 2.8-inch display (7.1 cm). If screen size matters to your decision, contact us before you order and we will get the answer confirmed by the manufacturer.
The object temperature range is published two ways as well. The marketing copy quotes -4°F to 1022°F (-20°C to 550°C); the specification table quotes -4°F to +662°F (-20 to 350℃). The low end agrees; the top end does not, and the gap is large enough to matter if you are inspecting anything genuinely hot. Thermal sensitivity is quoted as better than 50mK in one source and 40mk in the other. If either figure decides your purchase, ask us and we will confirm it with TOPDON before you order. None of this reflects on the instrument itself — the capabilities described on this page are stated the same way in every source — but the figures are worth a minute of your time before you spend money.
Three Measurement Modes and Automatic Detection
The TC005 offers three ways to take a reading, with automatic detection of the hottest and coldest points in frame. Automatic detection is the mode that earns its keep on a survey: you sweep a distribution board, a run of ducting or a row of bearings, and the camera flags the outlier without you having to place a cursor on each item in turn. Manual point and area modes are there for when you know exactly what you want measured and need the number to be about that specific thing.
Emissivity, and Why Your First Readings May Surprise You
Thermal cameras infer temperature from emitted radiation, which means the surface finish changes the answer. Bare shiny metal in particular reads far cooler than it is, because it reflects the room instead of radiating its own heat. The TC005 has adjustable emissivity settings so you can tell it what it is looking at. Anyone new to thermal imaging should expect to spend the first hour learning this rather than doubting the camera — it is the single most common reason a beginner's readings look wrong.
Multiple colour palettes serve the same end from the other direction. A palette that suits a warm engine bay is a poor choice for finding a slight draught around a window frame; switching palette often reveals a contrast that was there all along.
Optics and Frame Rate
The focal length is 0.12 in. (3.2 mm), which is what produces the wide field of view TOPDON lists among the camera's features — useful when you want a whole panel or a whole wall in one frame rather than working in tiles. The image frequency is 20 Hz, fast enough that the live view keeps up while you pan across a surface. The spectral range is 8 - 14μm, the long-wave infrared band used for the kind of near-ambient work this camera is aimed at.

Certification, Stated Honestly
No third-party safety listing, conformity mark or calibration certificate is claimed anywhere in this product's data, and we will not imply one. The distinction that matters for a thermal camera is calibration traceability rather than electrical safety: formal work — regulated electrical inspection reports, some insurance surveys, certain energy assessment schemes — often requires an instrument with traceable calibration renewed on a stated interval, and this listing does not offer that. If your reports are submitted under a scheme like that, check its requirements before you buy. For comparative diagnostic and maintenance work, where you are asking which of these components is hotter than its neighbours, it is not an obstacle.
Shipping and Delivery
We ship to the contiguous United States and freight is priced live at checkout from the address you enter, which is why you will not find a shipping figure written into this text — a printed number goes stale and becomes an argument later. Arrange for someone to be able to receive the shipment, or choose terminal collection from the carrier instead; a residential delivery carries its own separate charge. Before you sign anything, look the packaging over, and if there is damage of any kind put it on the bill of lading while the driver is still standing in front of you. A signed clean receipt is extremely hard to walk back.
