Topdon TB6000Pro: The Charger That Files a Report

The TB6000Pro is a 2-in-1 smart charger and battery tester, and the feature worth buying it for is the one that sounds like paperwork: it produces pre-charge and post-charge reports. Most chargers tell you they have finished. This one tells you what the battery looked like before you connected it and what it looked like afterwards, which is a different and far more useful thing.

That distinction decides real arguments. A battery that arrives flat and comes back healthy has been rescued, and the report is the evidence. A battery that arrives flat, takes a full charge and still reads badly was already finished, and the report is what turns "you need a new battery" from a sales line into a documented finding a customer, a fleet manager or a warranty department can check. Without the before-and-after pair, a technician is asserting a result. With it, they are showing one.

Charging and testing in one unit

The other half of the 2-in-1 claim is straightforward and genuinely convenient: the TB6000Pro tests state of charge, state of health and cold cranking amps, so the diagnosis and the treatment happen at the same set of clamps. Nobody has to fetch a second instrument, re-clamp a battery that is already on charge, or write down a reading and hope it matches the one the charger is working from.

Practically, this is what makes overnight charging a decision rather than a hope. You test, you charge, you test again, and you know in the morning whether the battery goes back in the vehicle or into the recycling cage.

Nine-step charging, and the step most chargers skip

Charging is described by the manufacturer as a nine-step smart process, and the step worth understanding is the repair mode — the 12V/1A REPAIR setting in the charging-mode list. A low, patient current aimed at desulfation is a slow job by design; it cannot be rushed, and a bulk charger that only knows how to push current will not do it at all. This is why a lead-acid battery that has been sitting flat for months sometimes recovers on a smart charger and never recovers on a jump pack.

The remaining modes cover the ordinary work: 12V/6A for normal, lithium and supply use, 12V/3A for small batteries, and 6V/3A for six-volt work. The small-battery mode is not a token gesture — putting a full-current automotive charge into a motorcycle or lawn tractor battery is one of the more common ways to destroy one, and having a lower setting on the same dial is what stops it happening on a busy afternoon.

One honest note on that list: it includes a SUPPLY position alongside NORM and LI, and we are naming it rather than describing it. The documentation we hold does not define its behaviour, the manual does, and we would rather point you at the manual than write a confident sentence about a mode that could matter to how you use the tool.

Range, chemistries and the app

Input is 100-240VAC and output runs 6-16V at 1-6A, with applicable batteries quoted as 5-240Ah. The chemistry list is broad — LI, WET, GEL, MF, CAL, EFB and AGM — and selecting the right one is not a formality. AGM and lithium do not want the same charge profile as a conventional flooded battery, and a charger that treats them alike will either undercharge them or cook them.

Bluetooth and the mobile app are where the fine control lives: adjusting voltage and current, setting timed automatic charging, and switching modes without crouching over the unit. There is an expert mode for professional use that adds real-time waveform generation, so the charging status can be watched rather than inferred. Whether you need that depends entirely on whether you are charging batteries or investigating them.

Built to live on a workshop floor

The protection list — reverse polarity, sparks, short circuits, overheating and over-voltage — is the part of a charger specification that only matters on the day it matters, and then it matters completely. Reverse polarity in particular is the classic tired-Friday mistake, and the difference between a charger that refuses and a charger that does not is the difference between an inconvenience and a damaged tool, a damaged battery, or worse.

Physically it carries a rugged ABS cover with IP65-grade waterproofing and a dirt-proof design. Read that as a statement about where this unit is expected to live: on a floor, in a workshop, near a drain and under a bench, rather than on a clean shelf.

Perfect For

  • Independent workshops that want a documented before-and-after result rather than a verbal one.
  • Dealership service departments handling battery warranty claims, where the printed evidence decides the outcome.
  • Fleet and municipal operations reviving vehicles that have stood idle and needing to know which batteries are worth the bench space.
  • Powersports, marine and small-engine shops — the lower-current and six-volt settings exist precisely for this work.
  • Serious home garages with a classic, a project or a seasonal vehicle that spends more time parked than driven.

What's in the Box

The specification establishes the charger with its AC lead (2 m, Input AWG18#) and its DC leads (positive AWG14#, 1.8 m; negative AWG14#, 1.8 m). Beyond the unit and those leads we do not publish a packing list — whether clamps, ring terminals, a case or printed documentation are included is not stated in the information we hold, and we will confirm it against the manufacturer's documentation on request rather than guess it here.

Certification and compliance

IP65 is an ingress-protection rating, which describes how the housing resists dust and water. It is not a safety listing and this page does not present it as one. No third-party electrical safety scheme is published for this item in the information we hold, and nothing here should be read as claiming one. If your insurer, your employer's electrical policy or a site rule requires documented conformity for mains-powered equipment on the premises, ask us before you order and we will obtain the current manufacturer documentation.

Delivery and pickup

This ships as a parcel-sized item within the lower 48 states, or you can collect it from the warehouse. Delivery is calculated for your address at checkout rather than quoted here, because carrier pricing moves and a figure baked into a page goes stale. Check the carton on arrival and note any damage on the delivery paperwork before signing — a charger that has taken a hard knock in transit may power up perfectly and still have a cracked housing, which matters a great deal on a unit rated for a wet floor.

Warranty

Terms and the claim procedure are published on our warranty claims page. We do not print a term on this page, because the information we hold does not state one; ask before ordering and we will confirm the current manufacturer position. If a unit fails, contact us before opening the case or shortening, splicing or re-terminating the leads. Modified leads make it impossible to establish whether the fault was in the goods or in the installation, and that is precisely the question a claim turns on.
