Ranger TS58R: The Tool and the Sensor Stock, in One Purchase

Most TPMS listings sell you a programmer and leave the hard part — deciding which sensors to keep on the shelf — entirely to you. This kit is built the other way round. It pairs Ranger's TruSensor TS58R diagnostic and programming tool with a batch of universal 2-in-1 TruSensor units on black rubber stems, so the tool arrives together with the inventory it programs.

That pairing is the actual value here, and it is worth spelling out why. A universal, programmable sensor is a blank: the tool writes the correct vehicle protocol into it at the point of fitting. One part number in the drawer therefore covers a very wide slice of what drives into the bay, instead of a wall of vehicle-specific sensors, half of which expire on the shelf as batteries age. For a shop that does not do enough TPMS work to justify a deep OE inventory, that is the difference between taking the job and sending it down the road.

What the TS58R Actually Does

The TS58R is designed to work across import and domestic vehicles using either wireless activation or an OBD connection. Ranger states 100% activation, diagnosis and read coverage of OE and aftermarket TPMS sensors, and extensive 98% vehicle coverage spanning domestic, Asian and European models.

Read those two figures carefully, because they are not the same claim. The first is about the tool talking to sensors. The second is about the tool knowing your specific vehicle's relearn procedure. A tool can read a sensor it cannot relearn to a car, and the second number is the one that determines whether a job finishes.

On screen you get sensor battery life, tire pressure, tire temperature, broadcast frequency, sensor ID and tire location — the whole picture rather than a pass/fail. Battery life in particular is the diagnostic that pays for itself: a sensor reading fine today with a dying cell is the comeback you would rather catch while the wheel is already off.

Four Ways to Program a New Sensor

Programming is where TPMS tools separate. The TS58R gives you four routes to a written sensor:

  • Copy by activation — read the old sensor and clone its ID into the new one, so the vehicle never knows anything changed and no relearn is needed.
  • Manual input — type the ID in, for when the old sensor is dead, missing or destroyed by the tire machine.
  • Auto-create ID — generate fresh IDs, several sensors at a time, for a full set on a wheel swap.
  • Copy by OBD — pull the IDs the vehicle already expects out of the ECU and write them straight into the new sensors.

Having all four matters on the awkward jobs. A customer arrives with one corner dead, another with winter wheels and no history, a third with a module that was replaced. Each of those wants a different route, and a tool with only one route turns them into phone calls.

Alongside programming there are the service functions that fill an ordinary day: duplicate ID, automatic create ID, sensor position change and modify ID, plus reading and clearing TPMS codes and resets.

Relearn, Including Straight Into the ECU

The tool supports OBD relearn, auto relearn and stationary relearn. Through OBD mode it connects directly to the vehicle's ECU for an instant check of TPMS conditions, using a built-in OBD port and quick connector rather than a separate breakout box to lose.

Direct ECU access is the part that turns this from a sensor tool into a diagnostic one. When a warning light will not clear, the question is usually whether the module is seeing the sensors at all — and asking the module directly answers in seconds what guessing at the wheels answers in an hour.

Built to Be Used With Gloves On

Navigation runs on a colorful 4.3-inch touch screen backed by soft-touch buttons, with a step-by-step on-screen procedure guide. The buttons are not a legacy leftover: touch screens and cold, greasy or gloved fingers get along badly, and having physical keys as well means the tool still works on the January jobs.

The on-screen procedure guide matters just as much for shops where TPMS is occasional work. Relearn procedures are vehicle-specific and easy to get half-right, and having the sequence on the tool beats having it on a laptop across the bay.

Perfect For

  • Tire shops that need to program and relearn on every seasonal changeover.
  • General repair shops that want to stop sending TPMS lights to the dealership.
  • Used car dealers and reconditioning operations clearing warning lights before a vehicle goes on the lot.
  • Fleet maintenance managing sensor life across a mixed domestic, Asian and European fleet.
  • Mobile tire technicians who need a portable tool that carries its own procedure guide.

What's in the Box — and One Thing to Confirm First

The manufacturer's kit description lists a sturdy carrying case with protective foam inserts, metal stem sensors, snap-in rubber stem sensors, a USB interface cable, an OBD II cable for direct ECU access, and a power cord.

Please confirm the sensor count with us before you order. Published figures differ: the product title describes the kit as including 24 TruSensor universal 2-in-1 sensors on black rubber stems, while the kit contents in the manufacturer's description list a much smaller number, split between metal stems and snap-in rubber stems. Sensors are the expensive half of a kit like this, so confirm exactly what ships in the carton before your card is charged — ask us and we will check it against current stock.

Certification, Stated Honestly

No third-party approval or listing scheme is claimed for this tool in the data we hold, and we will not imply one. For a diagnostic instrument that is unremarkable, but it is worth knowing if you work under a written equipment or calibration policy — some fleet and government maintenance standards specify approved test equipment by name. Read your standard's wording before ordering, and ask us if you need help matching it.

Shipping and Delivery

Shipped within the lower 48 states, with the rate quoted live at checkout for your address. A tool kit of this size normally moves as a parcel rather than as freight, but if you order it alongside a machine it may travel on the freight shipment instead. Where freight applies, someone at the delivery address must be able to receive and unload it or collect from the carrier's terminal, and residential deliveries carry an additional fee that is shown before you pay. Warehouse pickup is available at our published pickup locations.

Open and check the case on arrival. On a freight delivery, note any damage on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery rather than afterwards — a signed clean bill makes a claim considerably harder to pursue.

Warranty

Ranger publishes the warranty for this product as a downloadable document, and that document governs, so we do not restate a term here. Download it from the product page and read the exclusions before you buy if coverage matters — pay attention to how sensors and batteries are treated, since consumable and battery-powered items are often handled differently from the tool itself.

If something fails, do not open the tool or cut a sensor stem apart before contacting us. Self-diagnosis is the most common reason a valid claim gets refused. Photograph the fault, keep the packaging, and call us first.
