This is the base motorcycle package for a Corghi wheel balancer: the adapters that let a machine built around car wheels hold a small scooter rim, a 21-inch off-road wheel, a chopper wheel or a monolever wheel steadily enough to give a reading a technician can act on. It is catalogued as part 8-21120012.

One detail decides whether it earns its keep the day it arrives, and it is the reason this page leads with it rather than with the parts list: the internal arm extension, part 8-21100155, is a separate order. It is not in this box, and without it the kit cannot be fitted. If you are ordering the universal kit for the first time, order the arm extension at the same time.

The prerequisite nobody expects

A balancer measures the distance from the machine to the inner rim face before it decides where a weight belongs. Motorcycle wheels sit further out on the shaft than the car wheels the machine was set up for, so the standard internal measuring arm no longer reaches the rim edge. Part 8-21100155 extends that arm so the measurement is taken where it should be. Skip it and the kit is mechanically installable but the machine cannot gather the geometry it needs, which is a frustrating place to end up with a bike already on the stand.

We call it out here because it is a line item on a different page, and it is easy to read a kit description, see a long includes list, and assume everything needed is inside. It is not, and we would rather tell you now than have the box open in front of you on a Saturday morning.

Built around the ø 40 mm shaft

The kit is universal across Corghi balancers running a ø 40 mm shaft with manual and automatic locking — which is to say it covers machines currently in production and the previous generation as well. That matters more than it sounds. A wheel balancer is a long-lived tool, and plenty of shops are still earning good money on a machine bought a decade ago. A motorcycle kit that only fits this year's model would force a machine purchase to take on bike work. This one does not.

Corghi lists fitment for the EM9250/80, EM9550, EM9580 Touch and EM9980C. If your balancer is not on that list, send us the model number before ordering rather than guessing from the shaft diameter alone — the locking arrangement matters as much as the bore.

Centering is the whole job

Everything in this kit exists to solve one problem: holding a motorcycle wheel truly concentric to the shaft. Motorcycle wheels are light and narrow compared with car wheels, so the imbalance being measured is small — and a small centering error produces an error of the same order as the thing you are trying to measure. A wheel mounted a fraction off centre will read as out of balance when it is not, and the technician chases weights around the rim trying to correct a mounting fault.

That is why the kit ships with a Ø 14 mm shaft rather than expecting the car shaft to do the job, and why the centering cones cover bearing bore diameters from 15 to 45 mm rather than a handful of popular sizes. The Ø 15, Ø 17 and Ø 20 mm professional bushings handle the narrower hub bores, and the supplied spacers set the wheel at the right stand-off so it runs clear of the flange. A dedicated centering kit for Piaggio machines is included, because scooters from that group use their own hub arrangement and improvising an adapter for them is exactly how a rim gets marked.

Two ring nuts, two working styles

The kit gives you both a manual ring nut and a Ø 14 mm Quickfix ring nut. The manual nut threads on conventionally and is the one to reach for when a wheel needs a careful, deliberate clamp. The Quickfix pushes on and locks, which turns a repetitive mount-and-dismount cycle into a much faster job — the difference is felt on a day when a dozen scooter wheels come through, not on a single one-off.

The aluminium dragging unit fixes to the balancer flange and drives the wheel. Aluminium here is a deliberate choice rather than a cost saving: the drive component is one of the parts most often handled, and keeping its mass low keeps the rotating assembly light, which is what lets a light bike wheel be measured accurately in the first place.

The wall panel is not an afterthought

A wall-mounted panel is included to hold the kit. It sounds like packaging and it is not. A motorcycle kit is a set of small, similar-looking cones, bushings and spacers, and the failure mode for a shop is not breaking one — it is losing one. A missing bushing means the next scooter through the door cannot be balanced properly until a replacement arrives. Hanging the set on the wall in a fixed order makes a missing piece visible at a glance instead of at the moment it is needed.
