Valor VP9KSCX: a true symmetric lift - 31″ to 45″ on all four arms

Most two-post lifts sold today are asymmetric or bi-symmetric, with short front arms and long rear arms. This one is not. On the VP9KSCX every arm reaches 31″ to 45″ - front and rear, identical - which is what "symmetric" actually means and what most listings that use the word do not deliver.

The consequence is straightforward. The vehicle sits centred between the columns, its weight divides evenly across four arms rated at 2,250 lb each, and the columns take a balanced load. For long, heavy, evenly distributed vehicles that is the geometry you want, and it is why symmetric lifts remain the choice in truck and commercial bays.

The honest trade, stated up front

Centring the vehicle between the columns puts the door of a passenger car close to the column. On a symmetric lift you get in and out before it goes up, or you accept a narrower door opening. That is the deal, and anybody selling you a symmetric lift without mentioning it is leaving you to discover it in the bay.

Rubber door guards are fitted for exactly this reason - they take the contact when a door does swing against a column. If your work is mostly passenger cars and getting in and out at height matters, an asymmetric or bi-symmetric lift is the better tool. If you are lifting long vehicles and want the load shared evenly, this is.

Chain drive cylinders and dual point lock release

Lifting is by chain drive cylinders. A chain-and-sheave stage between the cylinder and the carriage lets a shorter cylinder produce a longer travel, and chain is a mature, inspectable, replaceable element in the load path - you can see its condition, and you can see when it needs adjusting. It is a design that rewards routine inspection rather than hiding the load path away.

Lock release is dual point: locks are released at each column. That is a deliberate difference from single-point systems and it has a real safety property - the operator has to be at the lift, at each column, to bring it down, rather than dropping every lock from one control that might be out of sight of the vehicle. It asks a little more of the operator in exchange for that.

Internal hose routing, and what it buys you

The hydraulic hoses run inside the columns rather than being clipped to the outside. In a working bay that means nothing to catch a trolley on, nothing hanging where a technician walks, and a lift that stays clean around the base where hoses otherwise collect grime. It also protects the hose from the incidental knocks a busy bay delivers.

The trade is honest: an internally routed hose is less visible for inspection than one running outside a column, so make hose condition part of a scheduled check rather than something you notice in passing. Columns are single piece, so there is no mid-height joint in the structure to inspect or re-torque.

Low pads, and getting under a car at all

Minimum pad height is 4″. The pads are low profile spin-up units, so height is adjusted at the pad itself rather than by hunting through a box of blocks, and stackable adapters are included for vehicles that need to be met higher up. Four inches at the bottom of the range is what makes a low car possible; the adapters are what make a truck with high pinch welds straightforward.

Will It Fit?

• Ceiling. The lift stands 142-7/8″ overall. That is the figure your building must clear, before you account for opener rails, lighting, heaters or ductwork. It is the check that most often goes wrong, and it goes wrong after the lift has arrived.
• Width. 138″ overall including the power unit, 113-5/8″ between the columns, and 96″ of drive-through clearance.
• Rise. 72″ maximum lift height at the pad, with 68″ of clearance beneath the arms - the second figure is the one that decides whether you can stand up underneath.
• Low vehicles. 4″ minimum pad height.
• Supply. 220V, 20 Amp, single phase. A circuit will need running to the bay if there is not one there already.
• Slab. Two-post lifts are anchored, and the concrete is part of the installation rather than just the thing it stands on. Arm restraints, and why automatic matters

The arm restraint system is automatic. An arm that can rotate under a loaded vehicle is the classic two-post failure, and a restraint that engages by itself as the lift rises removes the step a technician can forget on a busy afternoon. Manual restraints work perfectly - right up to the one time somebody does not set them. Automatic engagement takes that decision out of the process, which is what a safety system is supposed to do.

Ship weight is 1,370 lb, arriving as two columns, an overhead assembly, four arms and a power unit. Unloading belongs to the receiver - a forklift on site rated for the crate, or a collection booked at the carrier's terminal, which is usually the better plan for anything without a dock. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when you select it. Inspect before you sign: sight each column for straightness and examine the arms and overhead assembly for impact damage, count the pieces against the manifest, and note anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is with you, with photographs. Freight damage is not a warranty matter, and a clean signature is the document the carrier will rely on.
