It is called a pit lift, and it does not need a pit

That sentence is the single most useful thing on this page. "Pit lift" is trade shorthand for the low-rise scissor style that quick-lube bays use, and it reliably makes buyers assume an excavation, a concrete contractor and a permit. The Tuxedo PL6K is a floor-mounted, surface-mounted design. It bolts to the slab you already have. No pit is dug, no drainage is rerouted, and the installation is a day's work with an anchor drill rather than a construction project.

Everything else follows from that. It has a low drive-over height, so a vehicle rolls onto it without ramps dominating the bay; it releases its locks from a single pneumatic control; and it ships with its power unit and stand, so there is no separate purchase standing between delivery and a working lift.

Will it work in your bay?

• Floor space. Plan around an overall footprint of 83 1/4″ long by 66″ wide. The runways are 18″ across with a pad length of 53″, and the spacing between them is adjustable from 0 to 29 1/2″ — that adjustment is what lets one lift suit a narrow hatchback and a wide pickup rather than being set for one track width.
• Rise, and the ceiling you do not need. Lifting height is 28 1/2″, or 30″ with the optional height adapters. This is a low-rise lift by design: it brings a vehicle to a comfortable working height for wheels, brakes, exhaust and service work without needing a tall building. If you want to stand upright under a car, this is the wrong category of lift and we would rather say so.
• Minimum pad height 4 1/4″. This is the specification that decides whether a lowered car can be picked up at all. Measure the lowest point of the sills on the vehicles you actually work on.
• Power: 115V, 15 Amp, single phase. An ordinary domestic-style circuit. For a home garage or a small independent shop, avoiding a higher-voltage installation is a real saving and a real convenience.

The lift is anchored into concrete, and the manual specifies the slab thickness and strength it needs. We do not print an approximate figure here on purpose — the number that matters is the one in the manual for this model, and a slab is expensive to get wrong. Confirming your floor, your space and your access is the buyer's responsibility, and all three are cheaper to establish with a tape measure than with a truck outside.

Why low rise suits the work it is bought for

A low-rise lift is not a compromised two-post. It is the right tool for a specific class of job: wheels off, brakes, tyre rotations, exhaust, sill and rocker work, detailing, and the constant up-and-down of a quick-service bay. It comes up fast, it goes down fast, and because the vehicle is only waist-high the technician is not climbing or reaching overhead. In a service lane the lift cycle time is a real cost, and a low-rise beats a full-rise lift on that measure every time.

The single-point pneumatic lock release is the feature that makes that rhythm safe. Locks engage automatically on the way up; coming down is one deliberate control at one location. There is no walking round the lift releasing catches, and therefore no opportunity to release one and forget another.

Frame lifting, if you need it

As supplied, the lift picks the vehicle up on rubber spacer blocks, which is what you want for pad-point lifting. Tuxedo offers two options that change that. An arm kit adapts the lift for frame lifting, and a set of height adapters raises the pick-up point and takes the maximum lifting height to 30″. Both are separate purchases, and both are worth deciding on before you order rather than after — if you want them shipped on the same freight booking, tell us at the time of order.

What is included

The lift, the power unit and its stand, the single-point pneumatic lock release and the high-density rubber spacer blocks. The arm kit for frame lifting and the height adapters are optional and sold separately. That is the list as the manufacturer publishes it, and we would rather set the expectation here than have a crate opened in hope.

Specifications

Two figures on this listing that do not agree

Capacity. Tuxedo publishes 6,600 lbs for the PL6K, and the model name and the manufacturer's specification sheet agree with each other. A feature bullet further down this page reads 6,000 lbs. That is an inconsistency in our own listing rather than evidence of a second version of this lift, and we are not going to quietly delete the inconvenient one or split the difference. If capacity is close to the limit for what you intend to lift — and on a lift it always should not be — ask us to confirm the rating in writing before you order and we will get it from Tuxedo.

Crated weight. The published ship weight is 770 lbs, and our own specification sheet says the same. The weight held in our store's shipping record is far lower and is being corrected. That is worth knowing rather than burying, because the freight price you are quoted is calculated live from that record. If you are arranging your own transport or hiring lifting equipment by capacity, ask us to confirm the crated weight in writing before you commit.

About certification

Tuxedo does not claim an independent third-party lift safety listing for this model in the data supplied to us, and we will not imply one. The distinction is worth understanding before you buy a lift of any kind: a manufacturer's own declaration that a design meets a standard is not the same document as an outside body having examined and listed it, and insurers, corporate and fleet safety policies, dealership programme rules and some local jurisdictions require the latter by name. If one of those governs your workshop, get the requirement in writing from whoever imposes it and send it to us before ordering. We would far rather answer that honestly in advance than have a lift bolted to your floor that an inspector will not accept.

Shipping and delivery

Shipped by freight to the lower 48, priced live at checkout for your address so it reflects current rates rather than a number typed into this page and forgotten. You must be able to take the shipment off the truck — a forklift with the capacity for it, or a dock — or you can choose to collect from the carrier's local terminal instead. A residential address carries a residential fee, shown to you before you pay.

Inspect it before you sign. Check the pallet, the banding, the scissor structure, the power unit and the hydraulic fittings, write anything you find on the delivery receipt before signing it, photograph the shipment as it comes off the truck, and contact us the same day. Freight damage is settled with the carrier rather than under warranty, and a receipt signed clean is very hard to reopen. Unpack and check the contents against the parts list promptly too, because the window for reporting a missing item or concealed damage is short.

Warranty

The lift carries the manufacturer's limited warranty, which treats structure and wearing parts differently and excludes on-site labour. We publish the current terms, the exclusions and the claim procedure on our warranty claims page rather than paraphrasing them here — they are Tuxedo's terms to set, and a summary on a product page drifts out of date without anyone noticing. If a specific term is part of your decision, ask us to confirm it in writing before you order. And if a fault appears, photograph it as found and talk to us before dismantling or modifying anything: a component that has already been taken apart is usually outside the claim, which is an avoidable way to lose one.
