Description
-iDEAL TLX-7000: a 7,000 lbs lift with no hydraulics, no power unit and no compressor
Almost every low-rise lift on the market is a hydraulic machine: a pump, a reservoir, hoses, a power unit that needs a circuit and a place on the wall. The TLX-7000 has none of that. It raises on twin dual-action precision gear drives, and the torque comes from a corded drill you supply — a 10Amp, 120VAC, 1/2-inch drill is what the specification calls for. Nothing to plumb, nothing to bleed, nothing to leak onto a clean floor.
The second half of the design is in the name. It lifts and it tilts, so a unibody car can be rolled onto the frame contact pads, raised, and then tipped to put the underside in front of you instead of above you. At 111 lbs the lift itself is a two-person carry, and wall mount brackets are part of the standard kit, so the whole thing lives on a wall when the bay is needed for something else.
Will It Fit?
This lift is portable, which moves the fitting questions away from ceiling height and onto the vehicle and the floor.
- The vehicle. Rated at 7,000 lbs, and designed for unibody passenger cars and small SUVs with frame rail widths between 48" and 61". That rail range is the real compatibility test — check it against the car you care about, not against the car's kerb weight.
- The drill. You supply it: 10Amp, 120VAC, 1/2-inch corded. A cordless drill is not what the specification asks for, and a light-duty corded one will be working at its limit.
- The floor. This is the requirement most listings for this lift leave out entirely. The TLX-7000 rolls and tilts on its own wheels, so the floor surface is part of the machine's operation, not just the place it sits. Rough, uneven, polished or epoxy-coated concrete are all cases where the wheels either will not track properly or will mark the finish. iDEAL offers a floor rail kit for this model for exactly that situation. If your floor is anything other than sound, level, plain concrete, ask us before you order.
- Handling and storage. The lift weighs 111 lbs and ships at 214 lbs. Wall mount brackets are included, so allow a stretch of solid wall if you intend to store it vertically.
Judging your own floor, your drill and your vehicle's rail width is the customer's responsibility. We will help you read the numbers, but we cannot see your slab from here.
Two figures we will not guess at
Two published details about this model do not agree across sources, and we would rather show you that than pick the flattering answer.
| Detail | What we publish | What another published source says |
|---|---|---|
| Platform width | The specification block on this page gives platform length and width as a single row, punctuated as a range | A quarter of an inch wider, and written as length by width rather than as a range — which changes what the row means, not just its value |
| Warranty term | We publish the claims route, not a term | A dealer listing quotes a multi-year structural term with a shorter parts term and no labour; the manufacturer's own flier for this model states a single shorter limited term |
Neither figure is used anywhere else on this page, and neither should be used to decide a purchase until it is confirmed. Ask us in writing and we will get iDEAL's current answer on the platform dimension and on the warranty term, and put both on your order confirmation before it ships.
Why a gear drive, and why two of them
A hydraulic lift holds a car on fluid pressure and a mechanical lock. A gear drive holds it on threads. The practical consequences are the ones you feel weekly rather than the ones in a brochure: nothing to drip, nothing to bleed, no fluid to warm up in a cold shop, and no power unit taking up wall space or asking for its own circuit. The drives are dual-action and there are two of them, one per side, which is what keeps the platforms rising together under a load that is never perfectly centred.
Locks and controls on both sides
The dual independent safety lock bars and pins are the feature iDEAL flags as exclusive, and the reason to care is access. Because the lock bars are independent and the drive can be worked from either side, you are not walking round the car to a single control station every time you change height. On a bay against a wall, or with a second vehicle alongside, being able to operate from whichever side is clear is worth more than it sounds on paper.
Built to be moved, and to be put away
Low-profile, lightweight, portable and storable is the manufacturer's own summary, and the numbers back it: 111 lbs, adjustable width platforms, wall mount brackets in the box. The finish is a durable powder coat and iDEAL rates the lift as weather resistant for indoor and outdoor use — relevant if the work happens on a driveway or under a lean-to rather than in a sealed shop.
Perfect For
- Home garages that cannot give up a bay permanently and have no ceiling height for a two-post.
- Body and detail shops needing a car up and tipped for sill, underside and wheel-arch work.
- Dealerships and reconditioning bays where a lift needs to move between spaces during the day.
- Mobile and satellite operations that need a lift they can carry, given a sound floor at the far end.
What's in the Box
iDEAL lists the standard accessories as a jack stand, platform risers, drill-drive adapters, wall mount brackets, and a manual handle with socket adapter. We do not publish the quantity of each — another listing for this model gives quantities that differ item by item, so rather than reprint numbers we cannot stand behind, ask us and we will confirm the pack contents in writing. The drill is not included and never has been.
On safety listings, stated plainly
No third-party independent safety listing is claimed in the data published for this lift. It is worth knowing that a manufacturer's own conformity statement and an independent listing are different documents, and only the second is what an insurer, a fleet policy or a local inspector is usually asking for. If any of those apply to you, settle it in writing before you order rather than after the crate arrives.
Shipping and delivery
We quote freight live at checkout for the lower 48 states. Because this lift ships at 214 lbs it normally travels as freight rather than parcel, and freight has rules worth knowing in advance: you need a way to get the shipment off the truck, or you collect it from the carrier's terminal; delivery to a residential address adds a residential fee, charged once; and the inspection happens before you sign, not after. Open the paperwork, walk round the crate, and write any damage on the delivery receipt at the kerb.
Warranty
See the section above: the term published for this model is not consistent between sources, so we will not print one here. Ask and we will confirm it in writing with iDEAL before your order ships. Whatever the term proves to be, do not take a suspect gear drive, lock bar or platform apart before a claim is opened — a component already in pieces cannot be assessed, and that alone is enough to end a claim that would otherwise have been paid.
