Description

Valor VP8K-DX-XLT: 78″ of clear height underneath, which is what you are actually buying

An extended-height four-post is bought for one reason - to put a usable vehicle underneath the one on top - and the figure that delivers it is the clearance beneath the runways. This lift gives 78″. That is the number to hold against the roofline of whatever is going to live under there, and it is the number the boilerplate mentions once, in passing, in its third paragraph.

Above it, the runways rise to 82.3″ at full height on columns standing 94″, with an 8,000 lb capacity. This is the tall, long version of the range: more height below, more length along the floor, and a correspondingly larger building requirement.

Let us correct something our own page has been saying

The feature list on this product says the lift "fits in most residential garages". The manufacturer's own wording is more careful than ours, and the manufacturer is right: this belongs in a larger residential garage. At 94″ of column and well over eighteen feet of floor length, a standard two-car garage with a low ceiling is not a candidate, and telling you otherwise before you order only produces an expensive conversation afterwards.

So do not take the claim on trust from anybody, us included. Take the figures below and a tape measure into your own garage first. If the numbers do not work, the standard-length models in this range have a materially smaller footprint and are the sensible alternative.

The footprint, with a contradiction we are not going to hide

Overall length with the approach ramps in place is 225″ in our data. We have to flag something here rather than pick the convenient figure: our specification sheet writes the same dimension as 225-1/2″, while the manufacturer publishes a slightly shorter overall length for this model. The gap is small, but it sits on the exact dimension a buyer measures their garage against, so plan against our larger figure and - if your bay is anywhere near tight - ask us to confirm the true length with the manufacturer in writing before you commit.

Without the ramps the lift structure measures 190.7″ on the specification sheet, which another of our fields rounds to 191″. Overall width is 109.4″, with 100.3″ of clearance between the columns and 87.2″ of drive-through width.

Will It Fit? The checklist

  • Floor length. Plan on 225″ with ramps down, subject to the note above. 190.7″ is the structure alone.
  • Floor width. 109.4″ overall, plus working room and space for the power unit.
  • Ceiling. Columns are 94″. Add the height of the vehicle going on top, then compare with your own roof - including any door track, light fitting or opener rail in the way.
  • Underneath. 78″ clear below the runways. Measure your lower vehicle at its tallest point, roof rails and aerial included.
  • Doors. 100.3″ between columns decides whether the door of the raised vehicle opens.
  • Runways. 18.7″ tread width, 42.2″ apart, 80.7″ across the outside edges, and 4.3″ tall when fully lowered - that last one is your approach angle if the car is low.
  • Rise and locks. 82.3″ maximum at the top of the runway, with locking positions every 12″.
  • Power. 115V, 20 Amp, single phase. No three-phase supply required.
  • Floor. Base plates measure 10″ x 12″ where the load meets your slab. Our data states no minimum slab thickness or strength for this model and we will not invent one - ask and we will obtain the requirement in writing.

All of these are the buyer's checks to make. We will talk any of them through with you; we cannot measure your building for you.

Why extended height changes what the lift is for

A standard four-post stores a car above a car. With 78″ underneath, the vehicle below can be something you use every day rather than something low and long chosen to fit. That is the difference between a storage lift and a lift that gives you back a working bay - you can stand under it, roll a jack under it, and get at the vehicle above at a sensible height rather than crouching.

The cost of that height is paid twice: once in ceiling, once in the length the extended runways occupy. Anyone selling you the benefit without the bill is not being straight with you.

Locks, cables and the things that hold it up

Lifting is cable driven, with a single-point manual lock release so all four locks disengage together from one position instead of column by column - the failure you want engineered out is a lift descending on three locks with someone still working at the fourth. Locking positions every 12″ mean the lift can nearly always rest at a working height on steel rather than on hydraulic pressure, which is where a lift should be parked.

A slack cable safety system covers the condition nobody schedules for: a cable that has stretched, jumped its sheave or failed no longer holds the load where the geometry assumes it does, and the mechanism catches that rather than allowing the carriage to keep moving. Steel approach ramps are supplied with the lift.

Perfect For

  • Larger home garages and outbuildings with genuine ceiling height, storing a daily driver beneath a project or a classic.
  • Collections that need real access to the lower vehicle rather than just a parking space above it.
  • Small shops using one bay for both storage and service, on an ordinary single-phase circuit.
  • Detailing and preparation work, where standing height underneath is the whole point.

What is in the Box

The deluxe configuration is listed by the manufacturer as including drip trays, a jack tray and a poly caster kit, along with the steel approach ramps. Our data does not give a drip tray count and names no optional extras, so we will not list any - if you need to know exactly how many trays ship, or whether a rolling jack is available for this model, ask us and we will confirm it in writing rather than guessing on a product page.

Certification, stated honestly

No independent third-party safety listing is claimed for this lift anywhere in our product record, and we are not going to hint at one. On equipment that holds a vehicle above a working technician that is worth resolving before purchase: insurers, fleet operators and some local authorities require a recognised independent listing, and a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is not that document. Give us the wording you need and we will take it to the manufacturer in writing.

Shipping and delivery

Freight within the lower 48, priced live against your address at checkout rather than estimated in advance. Ship weight is 1,805 lb, arriving as columns, extended runways, ramps and the accessory kit. Unloading belongs to the receiver - a forklift on site rated for the crate, or a collection booked at the carrier's terminal, which is usually the better plan for anything without a dock. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when you select it. Inspect before you sign: look along the runway edges for distortion, check ramp ends and column feet for crush damage, count the pieces against the manifest, and note anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is with you, with photographs. Freight damage is not a warranty matter, and a clean signature is the document the carrier will rely on.

Warranty

The manufacturer's limited warranty runs longer on structural components than on parts, subject to normal use and the usual exclusions for wear items. Our data holds no durations for this model, so none are stated here - ask us for the current written terms before you order and we will send them. Claims go through mechanicsuperstore.com/pages/warranty-claims.

And the standing warning for any hydraulic lift: if something fails, leave it alone. The power unit, cylinder, cable assemblies and lock mechanism stay untouched until a claim is open, because a dismantled part is normally treated as a modified one and the cover goes with it. Photograph the fault, note the serial number from a column, take the lift out of service and call us.
