Triumph SJ-35: a bridge jack with nothing to plug in

The SJ-35 is powered by a manual pump. No air line, no electrical supply, no hose routed along a runway waiting to be run over. For an accessory that lives on a four-post lift in a home garage or a storage building, that is not a compromise — it is the whole argument. Plenty of garages that can accommodate a four-post cannot conveniently get compressed air to it, and a jack that needs nothing but a handle is a jack that works the day it is installed and keeps working in a building where the compressor is somewhere else, or where there is no compressor at all.

What it does is turn a drive-on lift into a service lift. A four-post carries a vehicle by its tires, which is ideal for storage, inspection and fluid work and useless the moment a wheel has to come off. The SJ-35 sits across the runways, picks the vehicle up by its frame or its lift points, and gives you wheels-free access for brakes, rotors, rotations, bearings and suspension work — with a 3,500 lbs capacity at the pads.

It is specified for the Triumph NSS-8 and the NSS-8XLT, so the fitment question is answered before you order rather than measured after delivery.

Will It Fit?

Because this jack is matched to a known lift, fitment is simpler than usual — but the numbers are still worth reading, because they decide which vehicles it will reach on that lift.

  • Runway gap. It spans a gap from 31" at minimum to 46" at maximum, which is the adjustment that lets it sit correctly on the NSS-8 and NSS-8XLT rather than only one of them.
  • Pad reach across the vehicle. The pad beam collapses to 39" and extends to 63". That range is what has to meet your vehicle's lift points — a narrow car sits near the bottom of it, a wide truck near the top.
  • Pad height. 4 3/4" collapsed, 11" extended, and up to 16 1/2" with the extensions fitted. The collapsed figure is the one that decides whether the jack rolls under a low vehicle at all; the extended figures are what let it reach up to a truck's frame rails.
  • Receiving it. Shipping weight is 275 lbs, crated. Not a hand-carry, so plan the unload.

Confirming compatibility with your specific lift is the buyer's responsibility. If your four-post is not an NSS-8 or NSS-8XLT, do not assume — ask us, or look at the Triumph RJ5 rolling bridge jack, which is built with a wider adjustment range for mixed lifts.

Why a manual pump is the right answer on a storage lift

Air-operated and electro-hydraulic jacks are quicker, and in a production bay doing twenty brake jobs a day that speed is worth paying for. On a storage lift it is worth almost nothing, and it costs you three things.

First, infrastructure: an air jack needs an air supply routed to a machine that moves along the runways, which means a hose or a reel and a permanent installation decision. Second, dependence: no air, no lift — and compressors fail at inconvenient moments. Third, failure points. A hand pump is a cylinder, a seal and a lever. There is very little in it that can quietly stop working between one use and the next, which matters on equipment that may sit untouched for months between rotations.

Set against that, the cost is a few dozen strokes of a handle. On a lift used for storage and periodic maintenance rather than production work, that trade is not close.

Where the pad range actually matters

The spread from 39" to 63" across the pads is the specification that decides whether this jack is useful on your vehicles, and it is the one buyers skip past on the way to the capacity figure.

Lift points are not standardised. A unibody car wants the pads close in, on the pinch welds or the designed jacking points. A body-on-frame truck wants them out on the frame rails, which on a full-size pickup is a long way apart. A jack with a narrow pad range forces you to place pads where they fit rather than where the manufacturer intended, and that is how sills get crushed and floor pans get creased.

The height range does the same job vertically. Collapsed at 4 3/4" it will pass beneath vehicles that sit low on the runways; extended to 11", or 16 1/2" with extensions, it will reach up to frame rails on something with real ground clearance. Between them, the two ranges are what let one jack serve a mixed garage.

Perfect For

  • Home garages with an NSS-8. The accessory that makes the lift you already own capable of brake and tire work.
  • Collectors and storage stacks. Rotate tires and check brakes on stored vehicles without unstacking anything.
  • Buildings with no air at the lift. The manual pump removes the compressor from the equation entirely.
  • Light commercial and small shops. Wheels-free service on a drive-on lift without occupying a second bay.

What's in the Box

The SJ-35 ships as a bridge jack with its manual pump and adjustable pad assembly, built in heavy-duty steel. Verify with us what extensions or lift-specific hardware your order includes before it ships if that matters to your plan — we would rather confirm it in advance than have you discover it in the crate.

Certification, stated plainly

No third-party safety listing is claimed for this jack in the data we hold, and we will not imply one on the page. If your insurer, your fleet standard or your local jurisdiction requires equipment carrying a listing from a named independent testing body, confirm that requirement before purchase rather than afterwards. Independently of any listing: this is a lifting device used underneath a vehicle that is already raised. Stay inside the stated capacity, use it only on the lifts it is specified for, and never treat it as a replacement for the four-post's own safety locks.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, lower 48, shipped crated on a pallet. The freight charge is calculated live at checkout for your address, so no shipping figure is printed in this description.

You need a way to take it off the truck: a forklift, a dock, or terminal pickup with a suitable vehicle. Residential delivery is available and adds a residential fee at checkout. Warehouse pickup from our Triumph locations is also available.

Note damage on the paperwork before you sign. Inspect the crate while the driver is present. Anything crushed, punctured or shifted goes on the bill of lading in writing, with photographs, and a call to us the same day. A clean signature is the carrier's proof that nothing was wrong on arrival.

Warranty

Covered by the manufacturer's warranty; current terms are on our warranty claims page. One condition to respect: do not dismantle a component before the claim has been filed. If the pump or a pad assembly fails, photograph it where it is, leave it intact and call us. A part that has been opened up can rarely be assessed, and an assessment is what a claim rests on.
